We are almost at the big event date of May 21st, when under the big tent that Microsoft has setup, we will learn all about the new Xbox Now! console, and just ahead of that event some more information has leaked out, showing that the specs. are very nice.

* There is now a full 12 gigabytes of high-speed RAM in the new Xbox Now! console, unlike the previous rumors of only 8gb.
* To be precise, there is 4gb GDDR5 on the GPU and 8gb GDDR5 on the 8-Core IBM custom CPU.
* The GPU is the first GCN 2.0 GPU produced and was designed by special team of MS+IBM+AMD.
* Eric from IBM will be a speaker on the 21st. with more info like the fact the GPU specs. are a mindblogging 4.9 TFlops.

Can this be true? (highly doubt it) Very Happy

Holy shit Laughing This is almost as stupid as that "Nintendo overclocking Wii U's CPU from 1.24 to 3.24 Ghz via a system update" rumor.

Inflation or not, 2005's $600 has not become more ( - or less) acceptable today. Nobody wants a $600 console today, just like nobody wanted the $600 PS3 back then.

I doubt the new Forza will be that amazing... its only so much fun you can have driving on a track... in a video game. And we have enough track games... unless we would see some amazing soft body physics tho Wink

soft body physics and licensed cars Laughing
thats like trying to travel faster than the speed of light

anyone remember Burnout paradise? it didnt have soft body physics but the damage model was pretty good. that game came out 2006.
and anyone remember the damage models in car games that came after that? yeah right.

or Carmageddon 2 - I dont know a single (AAA) game since then where cars could get split in half

heh and you know I could say the same about Soldier of Fortune 2 and being able to completely dismantle human bodies. when was this? 10 years ago?

these are not technical limitations...

carma 2 <3 so many hours spent on that

forza could be more fun, real road point to point racing with detailed surface like potholes/bumps and so on (and not nfs gd nitrotoofast2furious point to point), as you say going around a track is only fun for so long.

hell nfs 1 had some amazingly fun point to point back in 1995

Oh man I remember Carmageddon 2.

If You would drive in a wall with fast enough speed and hit it with only half of the car, it would split in this place Very Happy

It's long been know that both PS4 and Yankbox One have the same Jaguar 8-core CPU and 8GB of unified RAM. Microsoft hasn't spoken about what GPU is in the Yankbox One though.

I'm sorry but no one is going to make me believe that both the XB1 and PS4 will outpower PCs "for years to come". At first yes maybe but for years ? Please

Give the PC industry a couple of years and and a good 1000-1500$ gaming PC is going to rape both consoles badly. Hell some may argue that a 8 cores , 16gis of ram , tri SLI GTX Titan PX , SSD ect already do

"most".

It's already outpowered (and you don't need tri SLI Titans lolwut!!!) but not by "most" PCs.

Yeah i got that. And i exaggerated with the triple SLI Titan just for the sakes for my argument.

It's just the "for years to come" that bother me. Sooner than later a middle of the line gaming PC will have 8 cores , 16gb of ram , SSD ect. Right now the new consoled may overpower "most" gaming PC but i don't think it will be the case in 2-3 years.

what about that jaguar cpu horsepower?

yeah it's eight cores, but how does it compares to a current common good gaming pc cpu, let's say, a 2500k?

Gentlemen it's a FACT PS4 is weaker than the new xbox, see E3 thread Smile

But both PS4/XBOX will shatter todays current PC that's for sure.

It doesn't, not realloy. The Jaguar is basically AMD's competitor to Intel's ATOM, it's primarily designed for laptops and other low-power systems, that's why the Yankbox and PS4 have much heftier GPUs in order to take up the slack. The fact that MS are saying "we're not targeting high-end graphics" and the vagueness of their hardware specifications during the unveiling today, makes me think that the PS4 is packing much faster hardware this time around. Even AMD said that the Jaguar in the Yankbox is unique/exclusive *to* the Yankbox. Earlier reports put the computational power of the full APU at around 1.2TFlops on the Yankbox, 1.78TFlops on the PS4.

That's the entire APU. Mid>High-end desktop GPUs offer same/more power, such as the 7850 pushes around 1.85TFlops.

Well 8-core desktop AMD processor is comparable to Intel 2500K if program is heavily threaded. Intel is pretty much half more faster clock vs clock, and that 8-core which is on PS4/Xbox it is much more weaker than the desktop 8-core. Make the calculations there Laughing

I know the PS3 has 8 cores that run at 3.2Ghz but one core is used for the OS .. so you get 7 cores

this system HAS 3 OS Laughing that RUN AT THE SAME TIME ... ALWAYS Laughing and one is dedicated from the get GO to the new kinect Laughing making it a 5-6 core machine
