The game will be free-to-play with upgrades and in-game items available for purchase, though PopCap notes that “players can face every zombie and access every level in every world at no cost.”

Did anyone really expect ANY different once EA sank its diseased claws into PopCap? EA already said that freemium is a proven workable business model and they're not going to abandon such a fabulous cashcow any time soon
I really do hope that its really a brief Ios/ipad exclusivity and then they release it to Personal Computer.
And of course I do hope its good!
But from the screens I like it.
iPad version... great! Its definitly the best platform for this game... but sucks for all those, who dont own one obviously.
Free to play sucks... i hate ingame purchases. They rather empty your pockets (i spend already € 100 on Clash of Clans) or in most cases theyre crackable and so destroy the fun anyway.
Jailbreak + hack for unlimited sun or whatever (a la Donuts in Simpsons Tapped Out) = no big deal.
By the way, you know there's a facebook game out already? Not PvZ2, but possibly an idea of what to expect in terms of F2p. https://apps.facebook.com/pvzadventures/

So: No PC, (or later perhaps) and free to play.
I'm really starting to think The Satan is like this cute, friendly and affable kid in the neighborhood that everyone adores in contrast to EA. They are TRULY the scummiest company in the entertainment industry that has ever existed. How much more grasping can you get in order to resort to ruining the sequel to such a beloved game as PvZ?!

Saw those nice screens, then the "EA" logo and thought "man, something wrong will happen before they release it".

Yeah but whats the fun in unlimited resources in a game? A game defines itself by rules, and if you break them, whats left? I rather play with my toes then... more fun
It'll come to PCs for sure and possibly in a non-F2P variant (or modified). No way it'll skip the PC platform.

The way I see it, every life is a pile of good things and bad things. The good things don’t always soften the bad things, but vice versa, the bad things don’t always spoil the good things and make them unimportant.
f2p, hats, power ups... yop... ea is gonna pull a valve and see that pvz name isn't as BIG as it used to be. I love how much money they're throwing at franchises that don't really matter anymore and making them worse.
If Plants vs Zombies Adventures (facebook app) is any indication on how EA will treat this f2p title, then I weep for anyone who likes the game. PvZA has even worse micro than SWTOR, and that's saying something. You can make it without paying a cent, but the zombies are levelled to paid content, i.e. stronger plants at start, so the game around the 3rd area (which you have to pay to get into OR spam friends to join) gets an unpleasant difficulty spike. As I said, not undoable, but you have to wait like 10 hours (or pay) for your lifesaving Cherry Bomb to grow.
And the price/usability ratio of gems is outrageous.
