So I'm having to take down my battlestation due to getting a larger bed.

So my 4 of these little book shelves

and 1 center

are going bye bye and being replace by a pair of these happy fuckers

The whole set I have now cost me like...400ish. The new speakers, cost 600 for the pair ^__^ and the kicker is, I'm paying nothing because some guy on Craigslist is trading me even! AAWW YYEEAAA

Badly. I think iwill wait some more. .. i need to get external sound card or something first... or d a c or something i don't k what even to search for.
Something that allows to have speakers and headphones attached at the same time and gives me better sound than pc outputs.
I want external sound card ?

Then new headphones. Then maybe speakers. ... After all i don't use speakers even as close to how much i use hp.

Well I don't follow sound cards anymore since I find them to be inferior unless you're getting an ht omega. As far as dac look into FiiO e17

Oh well if you can get the E7 fucking do it. I have one and I love it. I only mentioned the E17 because it's the newer big brother of the E7.

I use the E7 on my laptop for audio because the onboard sounds like a dogs dick blowing into a chinese flute.

No, the normal PC 3.5mm jack output is analog. Your Realtek (of whatever your built-in sound card is) has a DAC on it. Every sound card has a DAC.

FiiO has external devices that are either amplifier only, or amp/DAC combined. For an external DAC (i.e. an external sound card) to work properly you hook it up to your digital optical output (the square output on your motherboard, or sound card. Usually has a red glow if you open it).

If you want proper sound you will want a good sound card (either internal or external), and an amplifier. The speakers we talked about in the other thread are self-powered, meaning they have an amplifier built in into them.

For headphones you need an external amplifier or a sound-card with a built-in headphone amplifier. THIS ONLY MATTERS FOR GOOD HEADPHONES. Shitty headphones don't need an amplifier. Just plug them into your sound card.

------

But speaking for your case. You are buying a cheap pair of 100$ speakers, and have cheap headphones. Your current speakers are running from your built-in Realtek soundcard (guessing). Your current speakers have an amplifier in them, and a headphone jack (meaning they amplify the headphones too).

So if you were to get your new speakers the only think you will be missing(since they don't have a headphone jack) is a headphone amplifier. However you don't need it for your current headphones - just plug them in your PC. If you are missing a volume knob, you only need a potentiometer: http://www.amazon.com/Koss-155954-VC20-Volume-Control/dp/B00001P4XH.

If you are sure you will get a better set of headphones in the future then you may consider getting a better sound-card with a builtin amplifier (either the mentioned FiiO or some internal ones like Asus Xonar U7). Getting a better sound card will benefit your speakers as well (although not much since they're low quality).

--------------------

And finally, if you ever decide to get a proper set of unpowered speakers, then you forget about amplifiers, DACs and soundcards, and get an audio-video receiver. This includes a DAC, headphone output, amplifiers for up to 7 channels usually and they offer great sound quality. Decent ones are pricey though.

I think i understand but you guys are way too harsh on my current creative headphones. They are big 50mm 20 to 20 headphones(tactic360 sigma (with additional amp for 360 which I dont use on pc because its shit on pc). And they were not CHEAP as You all are shouting it here.
Not terrible and not cheap. Not grade a and best either but not shit. ..

But all explanations are very good. Thanks Smile i am a heavy headphone user and I want it best as possible with my budget.
Anyway.I am focusing on headphones for now. So i need an external sounds card with amp in it.
As xfi hd pro external sound(5.1 pro dont have amp in it) card or fiioe7 (only e7 available here it seems).

As for ehdaphones, My next hp upgrade is going to be much more carefull. I want good buds. Nor creative this time. Not sure what yet. I want big over ear closed headphones with rubber/skin buds (not that fluffy shit) but most important, I want DETACHABLE cable or something like that. Just too feel safe, so I can't break it easily and can swap for other length of cable.
And as far sa I can see... there are almost ZERO 100-150$ over ear 50mm skin hp with detachable cable...
(or wireless would be great!!!... actually getting wireless usb headphones fixes all problems. No need to get amp, dac or anything Laughing Even sennhiser have some wireless sets for pc like SENNHEISER MM 500/400-X tho expensive but might be worth it)

edit: I know I've siad, enough my questions in this topic but a quick one: SENNHEISER HD 215 ? Seems to be all I want and have detachable cord which is most important and fits in 100$ price.

They aren't terrible, but they aren't even good either. You could have spent the same amount of money and bought some headphones that are much better. It's quite easy to work out if headphones are overpriced/not very good, if they are marketed towards 'gamers' then they are most probably crap. And you don't have to spend $500 on headphones to get good ones, $100 should be enough.

I spent about 2 months and countless hours researching what was best for me and the two options were either the Beyerdynamic DT 770 PRO or the Audio-Technica ATH M50's.

Also I started off thinking I would get some 'gaming' headphones and I didn't really buy in to what people were saying about them being crap, but then after so much searching I finally realised my mistake.

Edit: btw, leather cups make you sweat after hours of use.. Just something to consider.
