Like it has been pointed out earlier, simply unplugging/de-activating the webcam. |
You can cover the Kinect camera I believe. |
Let's just hope they don't fine-tune that sensor so it knows that's it's not supposed to be this dark at 14:00 during the day and therefor won't let you turn on your Xbawx.

With that kind of tecnology on Kinect, M$ could even check the number of "figures" standing in front of the camera, allowing activities only if at least one is costantly on (console/account owner for example). That would be really upsetting, to say the least.
So much for the Xbonex Bandana, was already looking forward to it.

With Xbox One you can game offline for up to 24 hours on your primary console, or one hour if you are logged on to a separate console accessing your library. Offline gaming is not possible after these prescribed times until you re-establish a connection, but you can still watch live TV and enjoy Blu-ray and DVD movies.
While a persistent connection is not required, Xbox One is designed to verify if system, application or game updates are needed and to see if you have acquired new games, or resold, traded in, or given your game to a friend. Games that are designed to take advantage of the cloud may require a connection.
|
Any more apologist want to speak up in defence of this? Absolutely despicable act from Microsoft and there is NO defence of it, not ever. Scum. |
Apparently they allow you to access your library from any console via the internet. I admit that it makes sense to force the console to stay online under these circumstances. The way Steam handles it with unlimited offline mode is too easy to exploit.
What we see here is the future of console gaming. Even if the PS4 doesn't require a constant internet connection (I still haven't read a clear statement from Sony on this matter), I'm damn sure that the PS5 will.

I'd say Microsoft was pretty clear now and most seems like a logical extension of whats currently going on in the market, like it or not.
Some of the policies are even more lenient than what we currently see on Steam.
They also passed on the buck to the Publishers in many regards, just as expected, and Sony will do the same.
No, the only elephant thats left in house is this ridiculous "connect every 24 hours or else" policy, which is unnecessarily restrictive and hostile to consumers.
This is where Sony can shine now by not including such a hardcoded barrier since there must be other ways of verifying ownerships etc. without resorting to such tactics as forced regular verification.

No rentals but you can give a game to a friend if the publishers allow it but judging from the language this can only happens once and they may charge a fee for it.
Edit cant even loan a game at launch
Also given the stories in american media at the moment microsoft saying that they wont share your personal data in relation to the kinect is dodgy at best and at worst an outright lie.

Not to forget the optout clause
"Microsoft is getting this out there with the proviso that it "may change its policies, terms, products and services to reflect modifications and improvements to our services, feedback from customers and our business partners or changes in our business priorities and business models or for other reasons. We may also cease to offer certain services or products for similar reasons." So this could change next week, but at least we have a little more definition."

Chill people, chill. The gracious MS still allows you to watch TV. But wait, that is not all, they allow you to watch DVD and Bluray movies. When could you ever watch LIVE TV or bluray movies? My pathetic TV only shows programming from 2 years ago (what is that I hear that Bin Laden is dead?!?). Did your stupid ass buy the console to play the games? Are you fucking retarded or something. Who the fuck buys gaming consoles for gaming? We have iphones for that.
Plus MS gave the power of deciding if you can resell your game to the compassionate publishers. Do you really think EA or activision stoop so low as to not allow you to resell the game, or even the unthinkable deed of charging you for it? EA stands for Electronic Arts, for gods sake people, ARTS. The game is an art for them and the only reason they charge you in the first place is to support their heroin addiction that gives them further inspiration to make MOH 3 and NFS.
Sig too big. -Nothing is too big for Fedor. Expect a nasty armbar.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA you can't even play at a friends house with YOUR account????? |
I could be wrong, considering the amount of backwards talk involved with the Xbone, but I think it's saying that you need to be online or it wont let you play for more than an hour. Probably because they're SO afraid that someone might allow a friend to borrow an Xbone game for a WHOLE DAY. Oh the terror!
Given that they actually seem to be afraid of the idea of someone borrowing games on another players' account for a single day... Well, let's just say that I don't think that bodes well for the average length of Xbone games.

I really hope you're right, the "logged on" part really got me. Cause if that's true, with microsoft faulty hardware, what if you brick your Xbone? would you lose your library?
Shit's so shady right now it's not even funny.

In light of all the NSA news and the prism project, imagine what they can do with this system. I'm sure they are salivating.

No. They have said that the Kinect is a requirement and that the Xbone won't work without it physically connected. What you conceivably could do is put tape over the camera and mic, or even crack open the case and cut the mic and camera power/signal cables. Possibly it may bitch at you with error messages if it can't see/hear anything though.

i think its brilliant how they did this. all the things people hate are the result of things that should theoretically make games better. new kinect hardware + mandatory should mean that devs will actually use it for things...possibly something new and innovative. cloud processing is fucking brilliant on a console with medium hardware and no upgrades for its entire lifecycle.
its dirty as fuck, but general population will either not know how bad it is, or just not care because call of whorefare 2: medieval whorefare :black dongs edition has arseome fizzix and photoreal bloomz. we are probably the only people who care, and at this point in the industry, real gamers are a minority. our voice doesnt matter at all compared to the seething masses of greasy sweaty pimply console kids.
now that i am over the shock of not being interested at all in next gen consoles (for the first time in my life i will probably not buy all of them, or any of them at all), im impressed with how low they sank.

"You control when Kinect is on, off and on stand-by."
So it probably be something like this:
XONE is on - Kinect is on.
XONE is off - Kinect is on stand-by (voice only)
XONE is disconnected from power socket - Kinect is off
If company I work for was releasing XONE it would look exactly like this.
