Your reply was Hurr durr so why would i bother... As much as you seem to think you have a sophisticated humor i have yet to see it.

On longer distances it doesn't matter, since you won't be shifting gears anyway Smile

What matters for long distances is cruise control Wink

I didn't mean the freeway or something like that, just traveling from town to town, stuck in traffic etc.

No surprises though, SteamDRM is used to Call of Duty and all games with the awesome button so..Very Happy

Jokes aside, I have to admit that driving manual every single day in the big cities here can be very annoying indeed. Not enough spaces and too much traffic basically kill all the fun. But other than this, manual is just so much better under normal conditions. (for me at least Razz)

Well automatics have only become good in the last decade or so. My aunt had an 80's Jaguar that was an automatic. Now that was terrible, the shifts were so sudden that the whole car would jerk and sometimes totally illogical. Driving it was terrible, but sitting in the back...man...you'd get nauseas in 5 minutes.

So finally you realize that your idiotic attempt at defining what "men" are in terms of stick vs. auto was a joke. I'm glad we finally agree on something.

I'm not the one claiming to be funny or pulling jokes here. Just saying.
Again you are projecting your own fallacies.

It's the same shit you see everywhere, some dude doesn't behave/speak/think like the normative caveman-norm and he is automatically "not a man". And whenever you call someone (you in this case) out on the bullshit you get stupid tirades of insecure babble using nonsensical references to female bodily functions. Seriously. Come sit in either of my cars and your opinion will change fast, I would even dare to say both my cars shift a lot "better" than any newer car.
And both transmissions are stock that I'm aware of.
The C4 transmission is from the 60s, the 700R4 is already from the 80s but they are still pretty similiar.

Newer cars allow the transmissions to slip way too much = smoother change but what's the fun in that :l
When you drive the car around for a bit you will know when it changes, you can easily hear it from the engine if the trans is adjusted even somewhat properly when it should change.

The only one who's started with insecure babble is you. And considering how smart you think you are i'm really surprised you can't see it. The "revoking man license" was meant as a joke because in most of the Balkans and probably Eastern Europe having a driving license is a must. And stick is considered the "purer" form. Considering your sophisticated sense of humor (as you seem to think) i'm surprised you didn't see it as such. Or did you take it as a fact? You do know man license don't exist?

Now you could have just been quiet and take the mediocre joke as it is, but no. First you start with a totally childish response and later start babbling about basic psychological principles (which have become standard insults lately on the net) and basically saying how your intellect and humor is superior to my own. Tell me who does that? People who are secure and well-adjusted or people who have a massive ego that gets insulted by the slightest provocation?

From what i can gather from this thread you can't drive/don't drive stick and have no interest in cars. Now on a forum where gay-jokes, buttsex jokes and low-brow humor is the norm (just below this thread there are people talking about shitting themselves) my "man license" joke fits in just fine, not to mention 5 people have made a similar reference before me. The only one taking it seriously is you, since you obviously don't drive stick and you have issues with what is considered to be "male" activity.

So you come to this thread, see what i have wrote, answer to what i have wrote in a totally childish and ridiculous manner, because you can't take people saying what is considered "male". When i reply in kind you raise yourself up in term of intellect and humor while making me look like some kind of idiot. Of course i'm the one that's insecure and is overcompensating. Laughing Take a good hard look at yourself.

I guess you're used to it. The older automatics i've driven had all terrible changes (sure you could get used to them) but for faster, sporty driving they were all terrible. Newer ones don't have this problem that much anymore and most of them have the semi-auto option so you can change gears yourself if you want.

It's still a pain in the ass in towns though Sad
And it really isn't anymore control, atleast all my autos allow me to downshift if I want to and force the gears, what seems to be the problem Surprised

Only "issue" I could see is if you want to do burnouts and your car is underpowered = Much harder with Auto than it is with Manual.
Heck I had a -89 Opel Omega with the basic 2.0L engine, 547,000km on it and it could do burnouts like no other still, clutch is magic in underpowered cars
And no, not some sad one wheel burnouts, all Omegas that were shipped to Finland for selling originally had diff locks on them.

By my logic = Any car that is RWD, has diff lock and can't do a burnout is underpowered!

I will put this more simply to you, since it seems too hard to comprehend:

I
NEVER
ATTEMPTED
AT
HUMOUR

I already acknowledged that your statement at best was a joke. A shitty one that only perpetuates stupid fucking norms about men. The whole "You're not a man, if..." nonsense. ANYONE who has to make bold statements about being "more of a man" because X or Y is insecure about it. The more you come to terms with that no activity you perform makes you more or less of a man, the sooner you realize you don't have to even consider it. Which displays your own, and perhaps the entire balkans/eastern europe issue with it (if you are correct).

No. I won't be quiet, and I won't take such a joke. It goes against my ideals, and what I stand up for. I don't know if you have any ideals yourself, but when someone speaks up against them, you react. For example, in eastern (and southern) europe there's a stronger family-connection, and if someone calls your sister a whore, family members are more likely to react about it. In Greece, if you are a German and say something akin to "well, Germany certainly did to Greece what Greece deserved", you will probably not walk out there unscathed. Regardless whether you sat together with the intellectual elite of Greece. Now, these are extreme examples, I grant you that. But it perhaps suggests to you the reason for my reaction? I'm a person who will react on a forum or IRL if someone: beats their dog, starts telling someone they are not a man if X, tells a woman she needs to be in the kitchen, etc. - this might be your first encounter with an idealist who will not just "let shit pass".

I see little to no gay-joke humour, because most people here respect members such as dingo. Buttsex-jokes do not generalize anyone, and low-brow humour that target individuals here are one thing. But when it comes to generalizations such as: "All the muslims are X", "Fucking immigrants are Y", people like me will react. It is based on idealism, and I'm an idealist. And I will call you out on shit like that if I find it. Regardless of whether the main topic concerns me or no. In a way it does concern me, because I do not see the logic in a manual stick shift (as I wrote one page ago).

So in your mind its the same to say to someone (as joke) his man license has been revoked and beating a dog. OK.... And i don't see in which country calling someones sister a whore would be a construed as a good thing. No it doesn't suggest to me anything. I'm certainly no car driver, but ...

Highways and less trafficed "regular roads"(Which is what you drive in most cases) you will basically be at what? 4:th Gear or 5:th for 80-90% of the drive? = Barely any shifting involved whatsoever.

Mixed driving (Cities), is when you have to shift all the time, stop signs, turns, red lights, etc. this is when manual becomes a hassle = lots and lots of shifting involved

Regular roads or high traffic highways = some shifting but with big intervals. You're still doing what? Between 80-130Km/h? Which is basically 4:th or 5:th gear again. With some lower gear switching when you have to slow down to make a turn or a highway turns into a 90 or 70 road = little to medium amount of shifting

In what scenario is the manual shift better than the auto? In what situation will you have use for the layer of "extra control" you're talking about? It seems to me to be nothing except a "gimmick"?

Sorry for the very late reply but I've been incredibly busy lately (and I've had to use the car a lot..which I'm also starting to hate ;( ). When it comes to highways what you say is very true, there's basically no need to shift, assuming that the traffic isn't too heavy. Steady speed, relax_mode, and that's it. Razz

I was referring to regular roads*, which are relatively small here (if compared to Germany, Spain, and Sweden too I presume) and take the 70-80% of my "driving time". The speed is low there (70km/h max, only when you're away from the towns, otherwise it's 50) and there are many turns so shifting becomes vital if you want to have full-control/fun. Smile

That was probably your best comeback yet. But no, you're not insecure because you say something. You are insecure because you make references to manhood in relationship to being able to stick-shift. If you think you are more of a man because you are able to flick a lever a certain way in combination with pushing pedals, then yeah, you ARE insecure about that shit. Of course i have ideals of my own. But i don't tell people i'm an idealist (because i don't consider myself one) and list a number of extreme examples where i would take a stand. I don't need to. I don't need to validate myself here.

Well to be honest i base my entire manhood on the fact i can drive stick. I pick up women that way. I say "hey woman, want so see me driving stick" and they reply "omg you're so male, do with me what you will".

Or maybe, just maybe the whole thing was a stupid joke, put together in a split of a second with no real meaning behind it whatsoever. But yet it struck a nerve with you... Yup, same in the UK and Norway too. If you pass your test in an automatic, your license is only valid for cars with automatic transmission. It's utterly pointless and a huge waste of time and money to train in an automatic - switch to auto once you've got your license, if that's what you prefer, but definitely train in a manual.

Automatic is for old and slow? Is that why all all super cars and sports cars are all opting for dual clutch auto trannies? With my SMG M3 I could line up with any manual M3 and take em.

It's a manual car except with no clutch and auto mode for when ur lazy. Best of both worlds. Manuals will be gone in a couple decades

First, I have no clue why anyone would take courses to drive an automat, since it's piss easy. Second, automatic for life since I drive to relax, I don't plan on racing while I'm driving from point A to point B.

+1

Learned on manual, drive auto only. With the traffic the way it is, there is no fun in driving manual. No idea how manual gives you more control, I feel pretty in control while driving. Cool

Drive through hills or mountains and you'll soon find out when manual gives more control. Driving through the Eiffel or Alps for example I found myself regularly switching from 6th to 5th or even from 5th to 4th to maintain speed and some torque. To do the same in an automatic takes much longer unless you activate the kickdown, in which case you're burning much more fuel than you would with a manual gearbox.

Where I live, I'd be activating that kickdown far too often Smile

Ok, that's it. Neutral
My car is jerking while shifting gears, the engine is shutting down while trying to move uphill on half-clutch...and many more failures.

Sounds like you just need more practise. Have some lessons in a manual and ask the instructor to teach you about clutch control and gear changing.
