I am not saying I agree wiith an alpha being that high in price. i did not back it. And I think it is a bad precedent if we are going to start paying MORE for alphas than final releases. That's just back asssward. But you don't have to pay it. The people who kickstarted it DID pay that to get an alpha and they don't want to suddenly drop the price to get into alpha and piss off their backers. Wait till the price goes down.
I think the high pricing is doing exactly what it's supposed to do. Keeping away bad influences.
Genius move. Maybe the game will actually deliver in the end.
This.
You'll find only those that are dedicated and want to actually contribute bug reports and what not are in the alpha phase right now, for the most part. It's keeping away a lot of the mainstream people and their bullcrap.
And I can assure you the fans that have more 'influence' so to speak are making sure that it stays close to what it should be. There were some big arguments about keeping it closer to TA or closer to Supcom. Thankfully, the TA crowd won out. Plus, the overall simplicity of TA is needed if you expect 40 player / 20 planet battles. So that means nothing like shields, no proximity bonus, commanders are simple and without modules/upgrades, etc. A lot didn't like this decision but the game is supposed to be TA, not Supcom. Besides, we've got the order queuing and other 'important' ease of use things that Supcom brought about.
And really, if people want these things they are easily modded into the game anyways. So no big deal.

Personally, I would've done it a little different though. I'd kept the "buy in alpha/beta" thingy at a lower price until a certain number of people is reached and then raised the price.
And no, I didn't back it and certainly didn't buy in.
Been playing the past couple of days to submit bug reports, etc.
All I can say is that i'm really impressed. The core game is very solid and I think people will be pleased once the open beta arrives.
Given how massive the scale will be I can't wait for the entire solar system maps to be put in. Even the 'small' planet in the current Alpha build is quite large IMO. Trying to imagine a planet twice the size of that, and hundreds of planets/planetoids floating around.. This game is awesome. It's the RTS I've always wanted.
They are looking at ways of improving the map due to how weird it is with have to play on real spheres, and not just a flat map. It really needs some type of minimap though. One way is that when you zoom all the way out you'll get sort of a flat view of the current planet you are looking at.
I won't say much more as you can easily go watch videos and what not, but given the amazingly fast pace of development the game will be a must have in only a couple of months.
The haters in this thread should be banished from existence. At it's core this game is TA but with battles across a solar system, and with some of the higher-level features that Supcom had.
Better yet is how easy it is to mod this game. I can't wait to see people mod in higher-end campaign modes where you play battles across an entire galaxy.
Thx for the report. Looking forward to this, really hoping that it will deliver the solid gameplay of top RTS like TA that it seems to be going after, cos it brings some pretty interesting new features to the table. Nothing earthshattering but pretty interesting nonetheless. But the game should (like TA) run solid, tight and fast--or else I'm out. Fearful of another overambitious bug-ridden atrocity, really.
I'm able to upgrade my 3 pack of Beta keys to Alpha keys for $10 which would mean immediate access to the game. 2 of the 3 keys are claimed.
Anyone interested in buying this for say, $20? I've offered it up to my RL friends but I think the ones that are interested already have theirs. This might go fast so respond quick.

The early access with the final game for 20$?
Yes. It will roll into the full game.

I played a short match from work a bit ago. A few bugs with the interface still exist but having played here and there since the Alpha, it's a major improvement.
They did add some sort of Satellite weapons/tools (some sort of energy gathering deal).
Graphics haven't changed much since what we saw in the original videos but I think that it's meant to be that way to allow the amount of stuff on screen.
Music is pretty good too when it does play. Sound FX are good, but I think could be improved here and there. Like I mentioned, some of the UI just seems unfinished yet, but that's okay since they are making improvements that can be seen.
I'll play some more either later today or tomorrow (vacation day tomorrow) and provide more info.
Edit: Beta reveal trailer

Paying 40 dollars for a beta game is still too much for me. I don't know... i mean why does it suppose to be that expensive? After they've accomplished to reach 2,1M dollars via kickstarter,do they still need that kind of high price to complete the game?
If they promise me that they're going to help me to get laid after buying the game, then i'll pay that kind of money.
