Even in the gameplay videos driving doesn't look that good so it's not much of a surprise. Personally I don't care as long as the rest of the game is great. I mostly just used taxis in GTA4 and SD anyway.

Oh don't get me wrong, it'll annoy to hell and back. Just like it did in Sleeping Dogs. But ultimately, so far it looks like this game has so much else going for it that I can deal with a mediocre driving mechanic. It's not a racing game nor does it focus on that as a major gameplay part (unlike SD).

Sleeping dogs was nice, playing any other game with driving after sleeping dogs made me hit every single wall.

Was very stiff and easy, but fun nontheless. Would like it.

My main gripe with this game that I wanted to point out, is the car driving and the absolute lack of any dynamic car damage.
The car damage is a joke just as I expected it to be from any other game other than gta.
All cars are made out of painted diamond and when you run into another car or into a pole at 100000000 miles/kilometers per hour, the car just jumps into the air from the shock of impact and falls down with it's wheels up and when you get out of it, it just has a few ripples on it's front side and a few scratches instead of being a squished down to 40% of it's original size...

Yeah right, there's definitely no shooting, that's why you can customize your weapons and buy a grenade launcher at a shop lol wut

The hood is lightly deformed but the car itself is whole, the glass is somewhat cracked and the doors are open but there's no major damage displayed on the car model as such other than the wheel popping off.

true, the main chassis seems perfectly intact, only the attached gimmicks are all over the place.

But honestly.. i dont care about that, as long as the damage is portrayed somewhat its ok with me.

I don't mind either, just that it's not as quite the same system as seen in for example GTA IV where there was a possibility of the entire car getting deformed but I don't expect the developers to model every single car part and different broken variants of those. Very Happy
(Granted it was rather limited until modders expanded those attributes to allow the whole car to get damaged when you do a direct hit into a building or likewise, here in the above image the bumper is completely intact despite the impact with that little post.)

EDIT: Still what with DX11 and such maybe one day proper tessellation can be applied to deformity (Metal, glass, snow - AC3 says hi -, wood, concrete and well everything.) and stuff like bullet holes. Smile
(And PhysX for the particle effect, ha ha.)

EDIT: And just because the damage model is looking rather simple doesn't mean it have to be simple, shooting the tire or engine block or the (hollywood style) gas tank for various effects.
(Or the driver, that usually works though with more digital cars maybe the hacking ability in this game can be used for interesting effects, or just fuck with the GPS system to really ruin someones day.)

Certainly looks pretty good to me and yes, while the car damage isn't exactly going to make BeamNG sweat, it looks more than adequate. They reckon you hop into any car and explore, it's completely open world and not "blocked off" like that other guy was claiming.

So you really think the open world driving/hacking game Ubisoft has been touting for over a year is really just a rail shooter with limited driving, low freedom and not really open after all? I find it very hard to believe.

I am guessing he means the guy wasn't lying, he just had the wrong idea.
Edit: As in the demo was indeed limited like he said, but he made the (allegedly) wrong assumption that this is what the full game is gonna be like.

It looks like it easily could be on pc now.

I don't know about driving. While Sleeping Dogs or SR4 driving was fine and allowed for crazy manouvers, GTAIV driving had weight and physics which also felt very nice
