A cloud can not replace 50% raw shading power, increase memory bandwidth or increase clocks. No matter how much CPU tasks you take away from the tvtvtvtvtvtvtv's APU, the fact that the PS4 is 50% more powerful (or the tvtvtvtvtvtvtv's version is 33% weaker, however you wish to look at it ) cannot be fixed by some magical fucking "cloud". If you believe that, you're incredibly naive and clearly have no experience in working in this area.
Even RTS AI is a stretch, because of latencies. You might not have been offline for 5 years, but fact is that most of the world still runs on very crappy, slow connections. You're from Romania right? If so, shut the hell up, Romania's at the forefront - ahead of even us in NL (65% 30Mbit+ connections in Romania, average in Europe is 20%).
And no, MS do not have the necessary infrastructure in place either. Their servers are located in the US, the UK and...wait for it...Japan
For Europe, that rules out 80% of the continent on that existing infrastructure because of latencies - latencies for anything further south than France of further east than Germany already sits at an easy 50-60ms on good connections. They've got a CDN in place to deliver assets, but this kind of stuff cannot be delivered through a CDN, that would only increase latencies as it cannot be cached in any way
Obviously though, that's why they're doing such a fucked up launch. A lot of countries won't be supported because their console will be lagging shitless because MS does NOT have the infrastructure in place.
"The Cloud" is just a hot buzzword right now, because in reality EVERYTHING runs in a "cloud" pretty much.
"The Cloud" is DRM. It's their excuse to force you to be online. And that's a big concern for this and other "MS Exclusive" games, because it's gonna be like Sim City all over. Every fucking time.
Also, in before Steam/Origin/Uplay comments: they all let you turn off cloud saves, don't magically make your PC more powerful like MS' new invention will do and they all have an offline mode where your games -the SP part- are still accessible.
Edit: more lulz for MS fantastic engineering team btw:

From GAF:
Quote: | Haven't been able to read the whole thread, but some quick responses to things I've read:
First - so glad to have this finally out there! Even more excited that people seem to "get it" and are looking forward to playing it. We've been focusing on gameplay since day 1, and I think everyone is going to have a really fun time getting to know the game once its out
The 60fps videos are from our site, www.titanfall.com. I don't care where you're getting 'em, but if Gamersyde is slow for you, try it. A huge part of the game is the fluidity, and thats really lost on weak-sauce Youtube 30fps encodes. As long as I'm around, expect 60fps footage from us.
For those expecting "normal" Source engine - don't. Those super smart coders (like Calen in this thread!) have re-written a massive amount of the codebase. The renderer is completely new (multi-threaded, DX11, 64bit, etc.), along with all the sound code, netcode, input code, etc. There's a lot of cores on the Xbox One, and the coders are actively working on utilizing them as much as possible.
Cloud! Cloud. Cloud? Yeah - we're using the MS Cloud for the Xbox One version. All platforms will be 100% played on dedis, but on the Xbox One MS is providing an extra layer on Azure that allows us to spin up dedis at a moments notice based on active users in the variety of regions, among other things.
We aren't talking about the 360 version much yet, but rest assured that we're working with the team thats doing it and care very deeply that its a superb version. This is our debut game and we won't let just any turd out the door!
PC - yup, going to be on PC, and its going to be awesome. We've got a lot of hardcore PC gamers in the office, and we know there's a lot of you looking to get this on PC. Again, no turds. We know what PC guys like/expect, and really don't want to disappoint. |
Quote: | Yeah, not true. We were showing mostly PC and weren't hiding it. We also showed the game running on proper Xbox One devkits at 60fps. Please don't spread fud |
Quote: | As was said earlier, anyone familiar with the Source codebase would have no idea what to do with what our guys have written. Source provided a good base to start prototyping gameplay while our engineers ripped out the guts and replaced it with our own - including tools. |

Quote: | Source was good for bootstrapping, especially in our early days, as it's very modular with a ton of community support/knowledge out there. Nowadays our codebase, tools, and workflow would be extremely foreign to someone familiar with Source, but it was invaluable in getting us here. |
Quote: | Multithreading issues can be some of the most difficult things to fix, so it'd take a lot more than just tweaking an engine to support more threads. So it's probably a good thing we've done a lot more than just tweak an engine... |

Bravo IW..err Respawn, that's what we want to hear. So now someone explain what those budgets on CoD go to? Because clearly these guys would've rewritten that a long time ago had they been allowed to.

I have faith that these guys want to make up for the shit what was MW2. I've no doubt this will be rocking on the PC. Game looks amazing to me. Looks like they've done some serious work on making the source engine much better. This is right near the top of my most wanted list of games for sure.

They were the ones who made MW2 "shit", or do you think that was because activision made them do it?
Unless you mean the PC matchmaking stuff, that sure as hell wasn't their idea.

Well as far as I'm concerned, it was only the matchmaking that destroyed MW2. As a game itself, aside from some smaller maps, it was brilliant and I ended up putting over 350 hours into the Steam and version and probably the same again for AIW/nonSteam. Especially once the modded servers started appearing with new game modes.

Xbone / PC crossplay should be possible but they are afraid PC gamers will dominate Xbone players.
http://www.vg247.com/2013/06/18/titanfall-xbox-ones-cloud-computing-helped-respawn-think-differently-says-zampella/
Quote: | “It allowed us to think of the game a little differently,” he said, and added that the game offloads enemy and friendly AI to the cloud, along with dedicated servers. The end result is more natural NPC enemies, and smoother online play that seamlessly blends single and multi-player into a world that feels both organic and populated.
However, Zampella re-iterated his caution around cross-play between PC and Xbox formats, due to the speed advantage given to keyboard and mouse players. We reported on this stance last week as well, and it seems like things won’t change in the immediate future.
Regardless he said of cross-play, “I mean, we’ll see. If it turns out to be less of an issue than I think it is, then, well … we’ll obviously look at it, but I’m not convinced yet.” |

Then stop fucking around with this "it's not a PC" bullshit and allow console gamers to use keyboards and mice! Though realistically what will happen is that the PC version will be artificially gimped in order to "match" the console one, just like they did with Shadowrun.

PS4 supports K+M at least. But then you keep a similar problem, 99% with play with the controller instead of K+M.

What Paul said, basically. If you're offered the choice of a better control system and you don't take it, that's your problem (your = not YOU, just in general <3) At least the PS2/PS3/PS4 have k/m support at the system level, it's just up to developers if they want to implement it.

Microsoft cloud datacenter for europe is here in Ireland. Over 1 billion invested the data center in Dublin, seemingly the biggest that they have outside of the States. Still wont convince me to buy an XBoxOne though.

They can invest a billion billion, as long as the UK/Ireland's infrastructure does not improve it doesn't matter one bit. Moreover, Dublin's own IX is a tiny one which can't really handle that much traffic (relatively speaking). Frankfurt or Amsterdam would've made much more sense (respectively the first and second largest). Picking UK/Ireland is only marginally better than picking France or any (sorry!) mediterranean country.

The hype for this game seems to be enormous and the press absolutely loves it.
I don't get it, there were a lot of better online games shown at E3.
As a single player-only gamer the presentation did nothing for me but then came gameplay of The Division and Destiny and suddenly my interest spiked.
These are the first games that made me seriously consider going online in the future.
Spending money on games, getting a headset and all that crap.
They seem like the next step to me, a new kind of experience.
Titanfall is only the pinnacle of the old formula, it will soon be crushed by what comes after it.

"Of course that’s not all, and Respawn started working on the game without any exclusivity in mind. Things changed when they realized the potential of the cloud feature brought by Windows 8 and Xbox One.
It allowed us to think of the game a little differently. That was the perfect solution."
I wouldn't say this line 100% indicates the game is Win8 exclusive. In fact I doubt it.
