So... does Rock, Heavy Metal, Indy etc go hand in hand with being a computer nerd?
If so, why?

nah, i just think most people here (including me) do appreciate when music is made with musical instruments!
the first thing i need in music is a guitar, don't ask why, i don't know (drums'n'bass, hiphop, techno, etc...just doesn't do it for me; it cannot excite me, and that's what it should do.)

Well put!
I find that if a band has guitars, drums, bass, vocals, I can appreciate the effot that the band is putting in and their musical ability a whole lot more than any other form of music.
Probably comes from playing guitar/drums/bass myself.

Yea, instruments is what i like. Growing up I like to play drum so I like listening to rock.
If you hate it, ignore it.

Hmm...good question. I'd say for starters, there is far more talent involved in rock/metal than in other various mainstream genres. I like rap and shit, but at the same time, how many times can u talk about being a big nigga with guns, drugs, money and hoes?
I find that rock (in all forms of it) is the purest outta all the music types. Tons of emotion - well, not every band but the greats and such.
Take for instance Alice in Chains (fav band). The shit Stanely comes up with is fuckin just so full of emotion and intensity...even when he's singing softly or its a soft song. U can hear the pain, the agony in his voice. He's not talking about the shit he does to make money, but rather as therapy for himself/band and if u identify, great, if not, fuck off ya know?
As for metal, Im a morbid person and kinda have a death wish and I like fast guitars and screaming so I dunno, just suits me
But as for the state of rock today...its gone to shit. To many bands out there producing shit just to sell records, not really to say anything. Take Velvet Revolver for example (STP Lead singer and Guns N Roses and Suicidal Tendancies on instruments). Great mix of musical talent, Scott Wailin is almost a god like Lane, yet to me they still lack that intensity and emotion and raw feeling that rock had back in the day...why? because Scott Wailin still talks about being a crackhead/smack head and drugs and shit...when he's been clean for almost 2 years and has his family and life in order...he shouldnt be singing about shit that he has already sung about (with Stone Temple Pilots)if he's not going through it again.
And really, as for the classics, find me a song that is as heavy, instense and pure as Sabbath Bloody Sabbath (black sabbath), Changes (black sabbath), Along the Watchtower (hendrix).
None do...
In my opinion, I think when grunge died (along with most of the good singers), rock finally died and went to shit....Manson brought it back in a different way still, but its just not the same anymore. To many Good Charolette, Simple Plan, Papa Roach type of bands...pure poser's, pure corporate shit...
Hence the reason i respect the grunge era so much. the 3 or 4 or 5 main bands that brought grunge into the spotlight (SoundGarden, Nirvana, Pearl Jam, Stone Temple Pilots and Alice in Chains) didnt give a flying fuck about fame - they just wanted to play their shit and let ppl who are going through what they went/are going through know that they arent alone.
Scott Wailin and Lane Stanely are the reasons I never did smack and have helped me through some seriously tough times..nothing like that anymore

Ok I get the message so far. You like rock because its real & has emotion.
But I still don't get why so many here like just rock.
I play guitar myself, if you can call it playing, and I like some rock too but I also like a shit load of other music (some of which is also real with emotion ie. funk, jazz, soul, reggae etc).
Is it coz ppl who like other stuff just don't discuss it or does rock (and trance?) go hand in hand with warez?

i guess rock is the most open kind of music... you can sing about everything... but when it comes to other genres... rap for example.. pimps, bitches and money... techno, trance, whatever... mostly nonsense lyrics about supposed love... if there are lyrics... cause its music ppl dance to... dont care bout what the song is about... etc... ah... i hope you get the point... cause im too tired to go on... i could type a fuckin lot bout it... but whatever...
point is... rock appeals to most ppl cause it is more open than any other genre....

Well, when it comes to partying type of music, i listen to dancehall (reggae - ward 21, alozade, buju banton, TOK, Spragga Benz, Black Chiney mixes, elephant man, beanie man, barrington levy etc etc).
I like various styles of music, trance, rock, metal, black metal, reggae, rap (old skool shit) etc
But rock will always be my preferred style of muisc when chillin at home ya know?
