Hahaha! Microsoft are playing the "PS4 will overheat and then we'll be faster" card, with their current hardware issues and the downclocking they had to do? That's rich

It's funny and sad how quickly they have forgotten about RROD.

$1bn and a lifetime irreparable reputation Laughing I lost on to RRoD and another to E74. Yippee. Somehow Microsoft, I'm just not that worried about the PS4's "RAM overheating"

In other news Microsoft "thinks" the Xbone will be faster than the PS4, because Sony's machine will overheat with all dat GDDR5 RAM: http://gamingbolt.com/major-nelson-addresses-drm-concerns-silencing-don-mattrick-and-how-ps4-isnt-a-threat#S1VTCM15Fk2P6I6y.99

Quote:
It also looks at the PS4 as “Xbox 360 version 2″ due to the lack of social and multi-tasking features. The company doesn’t even see Sony as a threat. Even better, it believes that the PS4′s graphics RAM will run hotter, besides not being as optimized as the Xbox One. Thus leading to both being evenly matched or, believe it or not, the Xbox One performing ahead.

GDDR5 is actually a fair bit cooler since it is running on significantly lower voltage...

I still can't belive how hard they fucked up the PR with this thing and they still continue to produce bs. How is MS allowing this to happen, its like they are trying to go for failure, because success is just too easy for them. The contratiction with support people, the bs answers that wait for real policys, if they would have just shut their mouths they would have a lot less bad pr on their hands right now. Just unbelivable that so big corporation would make mistakes like that. I'm no fanboy of xbox or any of the consoles, but this shit is just so unreal and funny Very Happy

Rumor - Steam to Allow Game Borrowing

There it is, Gaben's first answer to Microsoft.
All their lending/sharing/trading in etc. won't help MS if everyone else is gonna do it.
I don't know about Sonys PSN policies but if they are behind they will soon be updated too.

- Sharing a game with a friend and maybe even play concurrently
- Trading in games for other games
- Option to give up license of a game and transfer it ONCE
- Selling games digitally to trusted friends

This IS better than steam. But ultimately how big of an advantage will that be?
Its all digital, something that is in flux and can change, both Sony and Gaben could adapt within weeks, or months, can't they?
And poof goes Microsofts great advantage.

There is more to come, soon the entire digital distribution system is gonna get more lenient. All thanks to Microsoft Laughing

Sure they have been thinking about this for more than a year but now is the strategically best moment to make a move.
I also bet that they have some insiders and knew about Microsofts plans months in advance.
Now there are still 5 months left until the consoles come out and then a year of testing and refining their digital frameworks.
Even more time for Gaben - by 2015 the global multiplat digital market will be a completely different beast.

Valve couldn't implement something like this in a couple of weeks to save their lives, the way they work. Pretty sure MS had 0 influence. They have hinted before they want on Steam such features as even game reselling..

Only the 10-"family member" sharing plan has been detailed so far, and its still not clear if 2 people can play concurrently. The stuff with revoking the license has been half-confirmed by Major Nelson. And the rest is just planned/rumored.
I always have to assume the best case for MS, otherwise it would be far too easy to thrash them Laughing

http://www.actiontrip.com/news/gamestop-halts-all-xbox-one-preorders/061913_9

Quote:

If you were planning on preordering your Xbox One from GameStop, you'll have to try another retailer, such as Amazon. GameStop has halted all preorders for the console, and Polygon has found that retailers are claiming that the company has reached its launch-day allocation already. In fact, before the company nationwide sent out a message asking all preorders to stop, several individual locations had already stopped due to running out of their individual allocations.

GameStop does still have allocations left for the PlayStation 4 as they have said the allocations for preorders were much higher than those for the Xbox One.

From Polygon's calls to individual stores, they were told the following:

One store manager in California said, "We were only given an allocation of 16 Xbox Ones but we have 60 PlayStation 4s and we're still taking orders." Another in Texas said, "There's no point trying any GameStops. We've stopped that SKU until we get notice."

All preorder allocations are determined by the console companies, not GameStop. For whatever reason, Microsoft has severely limited the allocated preorders for their device overall or at the very least, they've singled out a particular retailer, which is an interesting and odd move.

If i was gamestop, i would had been promoting PS4 to death and not sell a single xbox to anyone..
Why would someone sell a product that endorse behavior that can destroy an important income source for them?!

Thats what a lot of them actually did, there are a lot of reports on NeoGAF. Gamestop people talking consumers out of buying the Xbone etc.
But this news has nothing to do with Gamestop sabotaging MS, it comes from Microsofts side, they themselves are limiting the pre-orders.
This could mean that
- they really have serious yield problems
- they change something with the console e.g. new launch bundle, 1-3 week release delay, price changes

So maybe those Xbones have shitty yields, get downclocked, delayed and Microsoft chokes on it. Smile
But it could also be they remove Kinect, make new launch bundles and drop the price to 399 Rolling Eyes

So now there are rumors brewing that Microsoft is going to announce a change of its online policies - removing the 24 hour check-in that is.

Truth or Bullshit? It's supposed to happen soon..

I'd say its not impossible....Wink

The talkative Microsoft engineer had a similar opinion:

"Current plan is basically you're fucked after 24 hours.
Yeah... I know. Kind of sucks. I believe they will probably revist the time period and / or find a diff way to "call in" to ensure you haven't sold your license to gamestop or something... but there is no plan YET.
I'm hoping the change it, but I don't work on that so I don't have much influence there /sigh
Yes, You're fucked for single player games. Again, that's the PoR (Plan of record), but I expect it to change after the e3 clusterfuck."

There's no way I believe this, so I'll wait for MS's official refusal or their usual "we don't comment on rumours" nonsense. It would be magnificent for the gaming industry if it was true though, finally returning power to the consumer rather than the publisher.

... but yeah, no way am I believing this.
