The games are designed to be installed, the only thing they are changing is instead of looking online to make sure you are authorized to play they are looking at the physical media to check that its legit.
There was never any catch to that, they didn’t have to share the same billing address or physical address it could be anyone. When your family member accesses any of your games, they’re placed into a special demo mode. This demo mode in most cases would be the full game with a 15-45 minute timer and in some cases an hour. This allowed the person to play the game, get familiar with it then make a purchase if they wanted to. When the time limit was up they would automatically be prompted to the Marketplace so that they may order it if liked the game. We were toying around with a limit on the number of times members could access the shared game (as to discourage gamers from simply beating the game by doing multiple playthroughs).
Oh wow, such a TERRIBLE loss to the gaming community that is! I don't know how we'll ever recover! Oh man, I feel so bad now!

Is there proof of this? It just seems so crappy that I can't believe anyone would think its a good idea.
I doubt it's real as well, it's a pointless implementation that's already been done with demos freely downloadable from XBL. I'm leaning more towards "this is a troll post"

Sony do deserve credit - they could have gone the same way as MS did and that would be the end of it. I am thinking MS was even counting on that, but Sony stayed with the old system and it all got turned around.
For now at least... It's not unreasonable to expect any of them to gradually re-introduce the whole thing. Or some version of it.

They do deserve SOME credit, i would say it's more like 30% of it or so.
Most people voted with their wallets and showed MS that they are not accepting such bullshit, and IMO that counts for more then what Sony did..
Sony took an opportunity, nothing more

So CliffyB thinks if Sony announced no used game restrictions and people still preordered the Xbox One at a higher rate than the PS4 that MS STILL would have changed course on their policy? What is he smoking.
MS was losing pre-orders to Sony though, because there was an alternative. With no alternative I'd imagine things would look quite differently. There would still be lots of people going for the mighty next-gen, and all-digital would be something they'd learn to live with. Boycotting the next-gen consoles? I don't see it happening - history shows that people are incapable of displaying such willpower

I also doubted its real like most people until an hour ago, but the current trend goes towards fact.
Family sharing = A 60minute demo mode, then a prompt to buy it
If thats true, then really Microsoft zero sympathies
what a distorted and hostile vision of the future they have

That family sharing thing makes sense to me. How can they let 10 people play and complete one game copy? You could just get a group of friends and take turns buying games.

Exactly, yet that's not how MS spun it. They spoke many times about sharing your collection with your friends -- yet in the end it just means "your friends can play a demo"
Yeah I remember thinking when everyone was posting about the epic fails of the One, that the family sharing, even though it seemed kind of odd MS would enable sharing, was a really cool thing.
I mean you could possibly buy a disk game and share it between 10 friends, but then sorting out all the times when each person can play, and even if they are in the mood to play, and then actually passing the disk around would be a nightmare.

Aside from not having to deal with the catastrophic hardship of having to stand up and put a disc in the tray, there really doesn't seem to be a single benefit or pro to Microsoft's original DRM policies. Everything seems designed to fuck the consumer as much as possible
so what is the info that is making you guys think that story is legit? I had originally thought the 10 friends thing would work like this which makes a lot of sense.
you have 10 people in your sharing list and only 1 person at a time can play 1 of your shared games that you are currently not playing. This would have let you let your friends play your shared games but not given much room for abusing it because potentially friend number 2/3/4/5/6/7/8/9/10 that wants to play that new game would have to wait for each previous friend to finish to get a chance which would encourage them to just buy the game cause they already played it and want more now!!!
ohwell its all moot now anyways.
Edit: Also I could not imagine downloading 10-30GB's for 15-45 minutes, that would be a fucken slap in the face.

dat der fucken CBOAT strikes, bunch of stupid idiots microsoft are. There are so many scenarios where lending a game can be limited but useful and forgiving to the whole DRM situation. How about I can lend a game to a friend but that game is now my friends for 30 days, I nor anyone else can use it (except the friend I lent it to) until that time limit expires and at that point goes back to my library but if I wish to I can take it back but then the game is not lend-able for a further 30 days. There are so many ways to make this a useful feature but limited to a point where you can't completely cheat the system.
Kinect no longer required for the Xbone to operate (but no price drop).
So you can safely disconnect it, if it bothers you.
The source is: https://twitter.com/mr_liedtke "Features & Opinion editor for UWindsor Lance, reporter for ourWindsor, co-chair mayors youth advisory committee, trumpet player in Nefidovs. all around nice guy" so I assume it's legit.

Update (6/21/13): Turns out the initial e-mails were the result of a typo. I have contacted Microsoft support, and they have sent the following regarding the Xbox One needing Kinect in order to function.
"This rumor is untrue and was an unfortunate copy/paste mistake by a member of our team. We’d greatly appreciate you running the correction below as an update to your story to help quell this rumor and shutdown the false cycle."
