Don't worry about the baptism, you can cancel it out with the proper rite. Wait until it's full moon and then at midnight cleanse him with goat's blood.

From how I see it, baptism these days has become more like a tradition than something that has to do with religion. It's like a delayed birth party, an excuse to gather people together, drink beer and eat cake.
But that's true only for parents who don't care much about that invisible dude's stuff and do it just because "everyone does it".
I too got baptized, actually I even went through the evil holy communion and sequel..and look at me now, happy non-believer/anti-christian who hasn't seen a church in 15 years, let alone a priest. Your kid is the one who has the complete power to decide his future, so I wouldn't worry too much. If the ex really wants to do it, I'd let her.. it's just silly water after all, a small meaningless bath.

And while the baptism is taking place you can take care of the bosses of the other five families...

Let her babtise him, but be sure that she doesn't instill that religion crap to him later in life.
Make sure he learns to be curious about the world, and not blindly following some dogmas
Plus he can always get out of his religion if he wishes to (I forgot how it's called in Latin :\)...

Dont agree to shit. Anything that endangers your child to become of any faith whatsoever is to be driven clear off. I hate how its the choice of the parents, while its no problem to be baptised later in life if he so sadly chooses.
There are two kinds of people I can't stand in this world. People who are intolerant of other people's cultures, and the Dutch.

By baptizing a child, you're registering it to the church/religion as one of it's slaves (or members/followers).
I'm not sure how it works in your countries, but here the church gets more money from the goverment for each member it gets.
So by baptizing, you give permission to the state to give more money to criminal organizations (also known as religions).
I hate you.

Now there is a distinction. I have no idea whatever Nerrds wife is catholic or protestant but the protestant church (at least here in DK) gets their funds through a special taxation which is funny enough called "Church Tax". Now as for the criminal organization, that's an absolutely ignorant. We have one of the major declines of regular churchgoers, so the dansh church have done alot to reposition themselves. For an example, one of the major churches in the city where I live have, once in a while commited itself to a "church by night" initiative, where people can come in, relax, and listen to some violin and shit. I did a report on it when I started my journo course and I have to say I was surprised. Both non-christians and christians was quite positive over it, and felt like they could escape the rush of the daily life in there. The priest which I interviewed was definitely surprising as she toke god out of her work and instead focused on the social services she could provide. Now, I don't know any criminal organisation that want to hear "drunk rant" at 3 in the morning, but she did.
I would be more incline to say the catholic church has done very little to change itself and how they have handled all those pedo cases is just horrendous. It's not for the people but a mean to control a stable money flow into the organization. I would by far characterize that as a criminal institution.

Did the church touch you when you were a little boy to have such hate feelings towards them
I'd advise you to go check out local churches and see what they do with their money. Most have reformed to a humanitarian place rather than a strict religious place.
I am in no way religious but to condemn most if not all churches, that is doing a lot of people short, people who care more about the sense of community than spreading the ideas of their institution.
But like most Atheists, it's cool to resort to such dumb one liners

I know how and what they use their money for.
I've driven some of the "humanitarian aid" trips they do to poor countries, and all the bosses here are evil enough to take the good shit and keep themself, and only send crap to the people down there.
I've also seen how the economy is used for "helping".
One of those religious helper organization shit around here just got busted for stealing millions in cash and keeping it themself.
I know a guy who went to catholic school all his life. I once asked him "does this mean you're very religious?". His response was "How could I ever be religious after going to catholic scool? I'm staying far away from religion the rest of my life!"
I got my reasons to hate religion, so I don't just pull "stupid one liners out of my ass".
I've seen enough "behing the scenes" shit to know how bad it is. |
Again, you need to seperate christianity in either Catholicism & Protestantism. Protestantism isn't centrally ruled and it has decentralized itself, which means alot more room (and maybe only room) for social services and alot more freedom to do what it want.. The Catholic church on the other hand, is a self-sustained money machine which requires it's members to go through rites and practices which in turn generate money for the church. Nothing is as black and white, as you make it seem.

The main problem is when religion becomes a part of the person. Like not using contraception due to what some archiac pope says or voting the same each and every time as seen in the states etc.

Definitely! But I would argue that the main problem is education, take a look at all the states in the US, that employ evolution teachings on the same line as Chemistry and Biology.

No argument there. My best friend is a protestant priest here in Denmark and even he would say the same.

Imagine me going to the local church and calling all those people criminal just because I'm not religious. Bit silly no?
My message is about taking a more objective stand. Just taking in one side is usually ignorant.
I see way too many atheist these days going against the church in the same way that blind religious followers go against science. (And maybe that's partially the reason I felt compelled to post )
Put it all in perspective.
But at the end of the day you stand by what you want... And this is just my opinion.
(just a joke don't take the following too seriously) You really must hate your name no? (comes from someone who is named Kristof )

I don't mind Christianity, but i hate the Church. An organization which function is supposed to be belief is one of the most powerful political entities not to mention on of the richest organizations period. Yeah....
But as much as i hate the Church and various religious zealots i have a similar hate to this new wave of militant atheism that's spreading.
