I spent about 2 months and countless hours researching what was best for me and the two options were either the Beyerdynamic DT 770 PRO or the Audio-Technica ATH M50's.

Also I started off thinking I would get some 'gaming' headphones and I didn't really buy in to what people were saying about them being crap, but then after so much searching I finally realised my mistake.

Edit: btw, leather cups make you sweat after hours of use.. Just something to consider.

funny, I spent almost a week helping him with his audio questions and what does he do, buys crap headphones when he could have spent the same if not a tad bit more to get a real pair. Excuse of "can't afford pricier ones". Well now you're doing exactly what I said you'd end up doing. Waste money on crap headphones then spending even more money to upgrade them later when you could have just waited a little longer to get what you really wanted.

Dont' exaggerate not everyone can afford 500 dollar headphones and 300 dollar amps. No one here spends that kind of money. You can get my sennheisers for 100 bucks now and easily find a cheap enough E7 Fiio for 50-60 bucks now.

It was year ago and I bought what I could back then. I am only LOOKING AROUND now. I am not going shopping right away. I dont even know if I will get any new headphones or anything at all anytime soon

Next time tho I will not get gaming stuff. don't worry Razz
You advices were always helpful too. My knowledge is higher and I feel a tiny bit more competent for future shopping

e7 is expensive stuff. it costs about 100$ in Poland. It's not a common product here and I would have to order it from some shaddy internet store. If it was so easy I would just get e7 and shure440 or ath-50m and have excellent ehadphone setup. Now I know it's all that is needed. sennheiser is easily available tho. 380hd especially
but as for now. Getting both of this means spending half of my monthly salary which is something I don't want to do. I am still paying my note2 (only 1 payment left) Razz Then We will see

You only NEED that E7 if you have headphones that need an amp and you dont' have a good sound card. My sennheisers sound boss as hell but they don't need an amp to drive them.

yeah. It was totally year ago I got my creative headphones. Funny how fast time goes isnt it ?Razz

So even tho I have my shitty realtek, I don't need to get any sound card external/internal.

Just fiio e7 and I will be good? does fiio have any alternatives which could be more widely avaialble here? Maybe I could first get that thing and check if my current headphones will improve anything on it.

because If I am to get new sennheiser/akg etc etc headphones, I totally need fiio(or whatever) to drive it? Front jack on alc892 wont do me any good ?

edit: wait.. I understand it totally. But how can I say which headphones need amp and which not ?
oh btw. I am playing my creative headphones on 25% too. They are too loud otehrwise

My ATH-m50's have an insane volume yield, I have to play them at like 40% on a computer or else my eardrums will blow. Razz
How the heck can an amplifier possibly be desired with this? Razz

Sony mdr-xb700

I like bass and vivid sound. I never liked studio monitoring real sound. I want HUGE comfort, Huge bass and durability. As for now every headphones had great comfort. bass varied from set to set and all headphones I had had poor cable durability and overall very plastic feel

There's a shit ton of companies out there that make them.

Ignore that shitty Creative one in there, that doesn't deserve to be in the list

I went on fiio site and there is a nice list, which of their products are amps only and which are amp+dac.

e7 is both. If I would be using it with my phone or mp3 player, only amp part will kick in.
When using with my pc via usb and optical cable, it bypasses my realtek and serves as amp+ dac. Then I can plug my headphones (can I plug speakers into it when I want or does it only function properly with headphones)
btw. I recently got some sennheiser inear headphones for my smarthpone music listening, so that e7 could be usefull there too

grats on new sub spykeZ Razz
One more question tho.
I did some reading and everyone says e7 is godblessed ampodac which will improve sound on pc, laptop and mp3 players but some say to get e9 with it. why? e7 is already amp and dac.

e7 alone I could buy sometime soon, if it is really worth it, headphones upgrade is much more difficulty to fin in 100$. I cannot fins shure srh440 anywhere here. ath50m are too expensive. There are so many headphones Shocked

E7 is better than most sound cards, especially that bullshit on board crap. Ya puerile will defend on board becausE "it's good enough" but only because they don't have a decent sound setup or just don't care.

E9 is a more powerful amp for the top of the line headphones but it can also run speakers like studio monitors like a pair.of m-audios

I will get e7 for sure. Sooner or later. Found plenty of places to buy it new. Then we will see how it will work with my pc. I hope I wont hear inner electrics amplified Razz

As for headphones... i did a little research and (oYou will KILL me spykeZ) I have few candidates and my main is Creative Aurvana Live! They are basically discontinued Denon 1001. Fantastic reviews on those. Even audiophilles say those are outstanding headphones. I am only worried about their build quality. need to find more about that. But cables on it are very simple. 2 wires per driver so if anything breaks I can just replace whole cable and solder new easily.

My other candidates are: (as for now. There are tons and tons 100$ and below great headphones (nothing as cheap as cal tho)
shure srh440 - seems fantastic. have everything. Some say bass is too flat but e7 would help it. Cant find them anywhere tho... and price seems too high for me too.
plenty of senheiser models. Like 215hd - looks kinda crappy but have good reviews.
at ath-50m - again. Easy to get, not good on price.
so on so on

but I woud say that going e7 and CAL (creative - yes. But denon interiors and not gaming set) should be good enough right ?
tho, cal are like 6 years old product... I don't know about that

Oh my dear lord and savior these things sound fucking phenomenal. Pink Floyd.....sounded like they were right in front of me. RRREAALLLY crisp and clear. Then..I turned on BF3 because god knows Dice is one of the few developers who know how to do sound. Christ, I was just running around blasting my shotgun at everything because I could almost hear every little pellet hit something (maybe a slight exaggeration but...you get my point)

Temporary setup, this desk is nice as a side desk but I found it for free. Receiver has to sit on my desk until I get a hold of some shelves.

Looking into a bigger wall desk with shelves as well as some vesa arms for the monitors.

@Leo...I know..I still have TN panels...I'm working on it!

But god damn the speakers were worth taking the desk down.

Nah, I was going to buy an IPS some months ago but rebuilt my computer with the money and I care more about audio than I do how my monitors look.

haha ya I know, it's a temp setup until I get stuff moved around. I will say though, even with this setup, they sound a hundred times better than the bookshelves I had. I'm hearing things in music I didnt' notice before, games.....like BF3 where they do a lot of work on sound, the shit I can hear is astonising

another hijack (since I've hijacked this thread like crazy already)

Anyone have x-fi hd usb ? that one for almost 100$. It is a sound blaster card, dac and headphone amp in one. volume knob, front headphone inpput, optical out/in. Line out/in.

I am wondering if I could have a console connected to it via optical in(or line in). pc via usb, speakers via line out and headphoness via front jack all at once ?

I am quite sure it would all work but I am not sure if that thing is powered passively through usb or only actively. Would pc have to be enabled to get power/drivers running if I wanted a sound from console? Or could I just plug it into any other usb when pc is not running to get sound from console with pc off ?
Does it function with only power from usb for devices other than pc?
