steambox has no room in the console market. It has room in gamer market. pc gamer with a ps4 and xo and wii u will most likely buy a steambox. A lot of console only gamers don't really know the strength of valve and hl series, or even tf2, cs, etc. It's all oh portal was nice, but short... why would i buy ANOTHER console just to play multiplats and a few pc only games?

Not every game works in big screen mode. Not every game is designed for controllers.

Steambox will be a success simply because the PC gamer out grows the console gamer. But other than that... it won't. Steambox made a huge presence at last ces, did it not, then pulled away. Some people knew about it, a lot didn't. It's not a topic of conversation in a lot of gamer circles i frequent.

You hear about steambox?
The pc for tv?
Sure.
I already have a pc connected to my tv, and it plays games.
Cool, you gonna get it?
Nope, did you see watch dogs on ps4? That looks so badass.

In pc circles, steambox is huge... but even then... why spend a grand on something that'll only get multiplats... crappy pc ports... and half life 3. I don't think 1000 dollar system is worth a 6 hour game.

hl3. for pc it'll get no marketing. for consoles. oh yes. maybe.

Last we heard the SteamBox is going to cost around $350.. not $1000.

No, it didn't have a huge presence at CES as you say because.. no one has ever seen the SteamBox. We don't even know its specs.

The reason you are not hearing about it is that it's not ready.

In recent years quite a few console gamers have started PC gaming thanks to Steam (sales) and more will if they are promised a console like PC.

It won't compete with PS4/Xbone's numbers but it will steal some of them. Hopefully.

And that's meant to stop anything? Still a gazillion shooters on consoles. Controls being shit does not prevent success if you find a crowd that's dumb enough to fall for it. As good as TLoU is and as much as I'm enjoying it, the shooting part still falls flat on its ass just like in every console game that has it. And as a result I do almost everything in melee (stealth optional) or by throwing a nail bomb/molotov at them.

If Valve market it right, I don't see why it wouldn't work.

but the "steambox" ready systems... that were advertised and then later cancelled... cost 800 upward with recycble hardware and all that jazz. That's where I got the 1000 price point. If it's 350, and runs current pc games at max settings without fail.. then awesome. Losing a few titles you can't play on your steambox because of lacking controller support might be worth the price. and if they allow local content sharing. Having two people with the same IP playing coop with one steam account from various locations at home... would be nifty. Won't happen. But still nifty Very Happy

tlou shooting feels flat is because it's a ND game. all uncharted series had poor shooting mechanic. Max Payne 3 has a decent shooting mechanic, even DMC had great shooting mechanic. So you can't say all console TPS games feel flat in that dept. If a studio is good at it, it'll feel and play great. Look at bayonetta... one the best TPS games this gen.

ND became a cinematic studio rather than gameplay studio. If they get their act together they can be fucking AWESOME. But they won't Sad

That was the Piston. Valve is not involved with that.

Newell said the price should be $300 (so not $350, my bad, sorry Razz)

yeah but piston guy said they were working with valve to get steambox on it... and they said that its steambox ready. Neutral iirc. Neutral maybe it was the interviewer who kept pushing those answers and the guy didn't really answer it... Neutral

What he said is that it can run Linux + Steam BPM (duh.. every single PC out there can) so it's a "SteamBox".

But that's not even true because Valve said they are going to come with specs etc one has to meet and they haven't decided them yet. So the Piston dudes cannot claim they meet the specs that haven't even been decided yet unless they come from the future. Laughing

All the ones I've played do. There's just no way to make a little stick anywhere near as accurate as a mouse. So either you get no assistance with aiming at all, meaning everything has to be fucking slow because your method of aiming is, or you get auto-aim which is just...lol wut

And Bayonetta is hardly a TPS.

I seem to remember the Piston company basically leaping ahead of Valve and announcing a mini-ITX based PC with pretty-poor specs and high price-tag. Valve followed up with a "We're not affiliated with them in any way" statement. So, I would take the Piston guys words with a large amount of salt.

Hmmm.... The Korean text translates to "Prepare for unexpected results ..."

So I presume they meant "prepare for unforeseen consequences", aka what G-Man relays to Eli Vance through Alyx in EP2.

Not yet.

But it was just a faulty update. The "prepare for unforeseen consequences" bit of course referred to them fucking up the update. There's nothing to read in this.

I wouldn't be so sure.

Something from Valve will be revealed in the newest PC gamer (July 4th)

Do you, by any chance, remember how Portal 2 was announced? Wink Or HL2 for that matter.

No (as you found out) PC Gamer always has a joke page about the next issue.

You might want to check how Portal 2 was announced yourself.

- Portal was updated to include fucking radios in every single test chamber. It's IMPOSSIBLE to miss them as they even play music all the time. Furthermore a new ending was added; What did this HL2 update bring? Korean voice acting that was erroneously enabled for everyone and then quickly fixed.
- When Portal was updated Valve did NOT comment that it was just an update and has nothing to do with an ARG; which they DID do this time but no, the Internet cannot possibly believe them because they lie!!!!1

There are no similarities between the two other than that Portal and HL2 received an update, which is a trivial similarity.

If HL2 was updated with Gman saying "Drrrr Freeeeeeemmmmmann, IIIII thiiiiinkkk yoooouu reeestttted ennoughhhh" you might have had a point.
