There are some potentially good RTS games incoming like Total War 2, CoH2, Wargame: AirLand Battle, Planetary Annihilation..but none of them meets your requirements.
I think you'll have to wait for the new Warhammer, online-only and F2P?

These days, even if we get another RTS game, it'll turn out to be a great cover shooter.

Agreed! Battle march is actually decent, and the storyline is pretty good. Great voice acting, and the old world is pretty damn authentic.
A somewhat forgotten and underrated game imo - with FANTASTIC cinematics.

Divinity: Dragon Commander perhaps?
(Though it was delayed to the beginning of August.)

Shame RTS games don't have a "old school" revival like RPGs where everyone is trying to cash in by kickstarting them. Everyone who does make them wants to do things different, no one wants to do things how they used to be, in the golden age of RTS

It looks exactly like that. Too hard to think of a strategy to counter the enemy's army, so once a turn Imma cheat and fire some fireballz at the enemies; if they shoot too much at me, I will just disappear the dragon.
I think I prefer Total War and King Arthur.
But this wasn't what I wanted with this thread. I was not looking for grand strategy. I was thinking more of base building or even something like Dawn of War 2.

I'm going to go out on a limb here and ask... have you played StarCraft 2 and Heart of the Swarm? I'm not going to discuss MP since I'm not a fan, but the SP campaigns are pretty fucking awesome - especially HotS.

No. I tried the campaign of SC2 but it was so boring and 1998 that I just couldn't continue. Even WC3 had a better gameplay.
And I just can't get over this:
It's just lazy shit.

That's a shame, to me the two campaigns were amazing! Easily up there with DoW2, RA2/YR and Generals.

Amazing in what aspect? Sure, the cinematics are good, but they are also good in World of Warcraft. Just couldn't stomach the awful tired gameplay (I didn't like it back in 1998, Koreans be damned) and lazy technology. Both SC2 and DOW2 came out around the same time, and one was so much superior to the other in every aspect other than cinematics. Well, I don't really play games for their cinematics (but good ones do enhance when the gameplay is good, like in WC3).
