Official web page: www.lofigames.com

Quote:

Original take on the RTS-RPG hybrid genre. No "hero" characters with artificially stronger stats than everybody else-
Every character and NPC you meet is potentially an equal, and has a name, a life.

* You are not the chosen one. You're not great and powerful. You don't have more 'hitpoints' than everyone else.
You are not the center of the universe, and you are not special. Unless you work for it.

* Freeform gameplay in a seamless game world stretching over 400 square kilometers. The game will never seek to
limit you or restrict your personal play style.

* Variation and possibilities of gameplay. Be good, be evil, be a business man, be a thief, live in a town, live in the
desert, join the army, fight the army, travel alone, travel in hordes, build a fortress, raze a city.

* Purchase and upgrade your own buildings to use as safe fortified havens when things go bad, or use them to start up
a business. Carry your wounded squad mates to safety and get them all home alive.

* Dynamic, ever changing world. Support or hinder whoever you wish, or keep to yourself, the world won't stop moving.
This is not just a "game", you are living and surviving in a simulated world.

* Absolutely no Level-scaling. The world does not level up along with you, and the shops don't change their inventory to
only items matching your level. At the start of the game almost everyone will be stronger than you, and survival will always be a
struggle.

* Realistic medical system that affects gameplay. A character with a wounded leg will limp or crawl and slow the party
down, wounded arms means you must use your sword one-handed or not at all. Lose an eye and it will affect your field of vision.
Blood loss means you can pass out, and the blood will attract predators. Exhaustion affects performance and is increased by
equipment weight, weather, blood loss and thirst. Severed limbs will need expensive robotic replacements.

* Intelligent AI that allows for characters to reason and work towards long-term goals and desires. Squads work together and
carry their wounded to safety. Characters can be setup to take care of micromanagement for you. Aid or oppose the various factions
in the world while striving for the strength and wealth necessary to simply survive in the harsh desert.

* Independently developed with no design influences, or alterations dictated by men in gray suits who have never played a
game before in their lives.

* Original game world. There are no fantasy-knock-off cliches. No magic.

It's still early alpha, all funded and coded by one guy. Could be a new Mount & Blade eventually, if people will continue to support him and buy the alpha release so he can hire more people.

I bought it.. keeping an eye on it.

Might be too ambitious but if even half the stuff the guy wants to do gets into the game it'll be awesome.

@ overlord: yes i do environmental models, rocks, grasses, trees and such. There's gonna be a lot more biomes than desert too.

@ Surray, he's a super dedicated guy, has been for some years now, so i'm sure this eventually will be something really cool.

The developer of Kenshi has launched a crowdfunding campaign at IndieGoGo and he is supporting Kicking it Forward as well! So go there and contribute if you find it interesting.

First of all, good to know that you're working on this too Smile

I was interested in this right from the beginning but the slow progression always kept me from buying it. But I also didn't know that it was just one guy who was working on it and therefore it's quite impressive imho.

So, yes, he's getting my money on IndiGoGo when my payment arrives Very Happy

Original take on the RTS-RPG hybrid genre. No "hero" characters with artificially stronger stats than everybody else-
Every character and NPC you meet is potentially an equal, and has a name, a life.

(..and the same fashion sense. Most NPC's are unique already in rpg games though .. unfortunately they are of so little consequence as to not to be worth interacting with. )

* You are not the chosen one. You're not great and powerful. You don't have more 'hitpoints' than everyone else.
You are not the center of the universe, and you are not special. Unless you work for it.

(you can be the same in a grind mmorpg too!)

* Freeform gameplay in a seamless game world stretching over 400 square kilometers. The game will never seek to
limit you or restrict your personal play style.

(unless that 400 square kilometers is filled with something interesting... i'm reading, i'm going to be running 15minutes real time just to get to anywhere in this game)

* Variation and possibilities of gameplay. Be good, be evil, be a business man, be a thief, live in a town, live in the
desert, join the army, fight the army, travel alone, travel in hordes, build a fortress, raze a city.

(Even ancient games such as Elite and Midwinter, Mercenary had ambition too, and for the most part pulled it off. On the other hand theres also Derek Smart games...)

seriously though, i'm just being overly cynical over a project which is just in an alpha stage. Could be good if it gets the necessary funding to pull it all off. I like some of the ideas floating around in there at least. Idea

He quit his job some months ago so he's working full-time on Kenshi now, things has speeded up dramatically Smile

xyzg: yes some of the "ancient" games might have pulled it off, so? Give a recent RPG example and we're talking Wink Once all the regions are in there's gonna be a lot of travelling yes, but if you've played the game you know you can speed up time, the disadvantage is that if you're not careful you might run into a pack of warriors or something.. But it would suck if you could use it without any disadvantages too..

don't get me wrong vurt I like my tactics/strategy type games so i'll be interested in seeing how this one progresses. I only referenced old games because a lot of them were also developed by small teams with miniscule budgets or sometimes just one guy doing everything himself too, but good ideas, passion (and a lot of hard graft I would imagine) paid off.

I sure as hell would like to see this succeed. Looks incredibly ambitious. I don't care about the perks in the kickastarter, but the 10$ on his site looks reasonable.

Yeah, though it's not really fair to compare indie games of today to c-64 games or similar, those games didnt take 5 years to be completed, games were made a lot faster and required a lot less graphical and audio content, thus one man projects was a very viable option back then. I've seen some new indie RPG's made by one person, but they're one a whole different level than this..

I think supporting this game is less of a gamble than projects just showing a bunch of concept screens and doesnt even have a alpha version ready Smile

Yep, and like I said previously, Kenshi is already around a pretty long time. This guy is really working on it and has a goal. Slow progression so far, but he's surely not giving up.

Just noticed that this type of Kickstarter doesnt require the developer to reach the goal to recieve the funds. I dont think the U.S based Kickstarter has this option?

No, don't think so.

From the FAQ:
Quote:
If funding does not succeed do backers pay anything?

Nothing. If funding is unsuccessful, all pledges are canceled and that's that.

I think it has potential. But right now a lot of basic control interface stuff are still missing. It is playable, but things will get tedious.

I understand the concept of indie. Especially if our humper is involved. But deserts are never fun in games.

Glad to hear there will be other environements too

Mojave desert says otherwise. I liked the desert areas in Gothic 3 as well; a desert doesn't mean it has to be full of sand and nothing else.
