All they said, is that they will process her voice differently so that it doesn't sound 100% GLaDOS.

It sounds 100% like Glados.

That's how it sounded to me, anyway.

I googled it and apparently they changed the filter but only by very little: http://kotaku.com/how-glad0s-is-glad0s-in-pacific-rim-pretty-glad0s-636252650

Quote:
If I had to place the robot voice on a scale of one to ten, with one being "Ellen McLain" and ten being "GLaDOs," I'd put the Pacific Rim robot voice at about an 8.

What's also worth pointing out according to the article is that the first trailer which was 100% GLaDOS also had the actress do the same "mocking tone" performance, which was redone for the movie so her voice is there but the GLaDOS personality is kinda lost.

Well, my friends with which I went to see it pretty much said the same. Although I have to admit, there was a little more emotion in the AI's voice, especially at the ending when the stuff that ended the war happened (vague because of spoilers).

It was pretty fun to watch, with some facepalm dialogue. But you don't watch this movie for deep themes and character development, you watch it for big robots smashing big aliens. And that's what you get.

Good action, Idris Elba, good CGI and monster design, Ron Perlman, it gives the viewer the "something epic is going on!" vibe, fairly unique and of course, Idris Elba.
Shit script (basically one cliche after another), average acting (besides... yes you guessed it, Idris Elba), I wasn't that impressed by the action (it got a bit repetitive), oh my god so much cliche and cheese (not the good kinda cheese), Jaeger variety was crap. I was disappointed really, I never had the "wow" feeling. It was an OK popcorn movie (maybe I didn't enjoy it very much because I didn't have popcorn).

Del Toro said that the 100% Glados was only for the trailer and the movie would have a slightly different feel for it..i read that somewhere atleast Smile

You're a funny guy.
Discussing physics of a ship in a movie about colossal robots and monsters...

Good read, and a very interesting (or two very interesting) points of view Smile

http://stormingtheivorytower.blogspot.com/2013/07/the-visual-intelligence-of-pacific-rim.html

I personally think it's very spot-on around the particular style of the movie (Del Toro loves his visuals).

Im kinda disappointed after watching this Sad

Sure the CGI is awesome and it's really good action, but the movie is just independence day and top gun mashed together.. I expected so much more from del toro. He made the hellboy movies, which is really enjoy.. this is just.. fail.

He took an amazing concept of huge fracking robots and monsters and he fucked up.. i'll proberly rewatch on bluray someday..

That's where you failed. Smile
I'm not saying that your opinion is wrong but this movie is to be taken as a pure mayhem and action, no deep plot.

The movie was so full of clichés, it was actually funny. I really felt like del Toro was doing that on purpose.

I really enjoyed the movie for the well executed action and the clichéed plot.

This nonage is self-imposed if its cause lies not in lack of understanding but in indecision and lack of courage to use one's own mind without another's guidance. Dare to know! (Sapere aude.) "Have the courage to use your own understanding," is therefore the motto of the enlightenment."

That's a very poor excuse imo. So the only good thing to expect in this movie is the action? The rest can be utter crap and it'll be great?

no, the clichés are pretty deliberate and a homage to old giant robot / gozilla movies and anime.
the movie doesnt come across as plain stupid as transformers, it is a nice homage with some good performances here and there, and really great fx and battles.
easily the best high budget movie this year (yes, its better than man of super).

I just watched it and I'd say the action and visuals in general is what makes this movie great.
If the rest is utter crap of course the movie would not be great, and we've seen that in Transformers and Battleship for example :P

The thing about this movie, imo, is that the rest is not utter crap. It's not great but it's also not bad, so there's nothing that brings it down from the high point the action gets it to.
There's no annoying teenie drama bullshit or anything like that to piss you off all the time, it was just a fun ride the whole way through for me.

ps: gimme that live action Evangelion movie now, the technology is ready!

I agree with the previous two posts. This is a Godzilla vs. Giant Robot film done right, nothing more but nothing less either. What makes the film stand out are other films from that genre. Most of them suck due to bad CGI, stupid subplots that take up too much time, military propaganda and too little focus on solid action scenes.

If there were many decent Mech films, this one wouldn't stand out among them. But since Mech films usually suck, this one looks like a shining knight next to them.

No, seriously not. Transformers (the closest to this image-wise) was crap and not great. Here, del Toro just felt like, give the audience a littel too much to make them laugh about it all. He didnt want to be taken seriously, instead it was full of overdrawn drama. It constantly reminded me of anime and the predictable clichés we are all used to, just a tiny little bit overdrawn.

Watch the movie again, watch all the little visual (the bellows f.e. ) and character details ( you know like Tarantino uses the zoom to imitate vintage movies, del toro uses clichés), all the little overdrawn drama. It really works well for me. Maybe I'm was just in the right mood for this.

I didn't get the "I make fun of the genre" vibe at all, just me I guess. For a supposed parody, the movie takes itself way too serious.

For starters it's not a parody, it's a pop-corn flick, plain and simple. And no, it obviously doesn't take itself seriously when you see the purposedly included cliches, like the russian pilot couple with looks a la Mr. and Mrs. Drago in Rocky 4, the chinese pilots playing basketball nearly all the time, etc.
