That was actually the main reason why I've been subdued to the cards faggotry.
Can't complain though, got games for free while doing nothing...let's say I've been using the whole system in the most rational way, leeching the hell out of it with no investments whatsoever. Felt like being a Wall Street banker xD |

Normal cards have a value that varies from 2-3 cents to ~20, depending on how popular the game is, though there are foil cards which are rarer and are easily worth 1+€ (depending on the game).
Generally there's a small chance whenever you get a trading card from playing a game that it will have a foil border. You can also get booster packs (set of cards) randomly from creating a badge, depending on your Steam level etc.

any way to add a game to SAM? I click on add game and it pops up a message about inputting a valid game id, but theres nowhere to actually *input* the game id

You can enter the AppID next to the "Refresh Games" button, it's very well hidden.
