Hehe, when the Hotline Miami devs did that, it played out nicely for them. Hopefully history repeats itself here Razz (assuming that the game is good of course). It surely looks nice.

An interesting account of sales and revenue made. For those who think GOG is orrrrrrsum, this is another dev who got told that they wouldn't price the game above a certain point.
Quote:

Without Steam, GOG was the only shot the game really had of making money any time soon, and it needed to, because I was out of rent money. We needed to ship on GOG. So when GOG told me they’d refuse to sell the game for any amount higher than ten bucks, I had to say “Welp, guess it’s ten bucks”. I’m still not happy about it. I don’t think it’s their place to strongarm devs on price, as they’re apparently still doing. I don’t want to give them too shitty a report card, as they’ve been perfectly pleasant to deal with generally, but this is a policy they really need to take another look at.

Unlike Mike Bithell and TWA, though, these guys had to take it.

They (GOG) could perhaps increase the current price limit (9.99) to 19.90$ or so for more recent indie games, Witcher (2 - 3) uses their own pricing already so having some other price(s) for non-GOG material like indie releases shouldn't be too difficult.

EDIT: What is the current price anyway?

Desura - 6 (5.99) Euro

Steam - 10 (9.99) Euro

GOG - 9.99 Dollar

Gamersgate - N/A

Mmm... The price is fairly low across the board now, but that's part of the problem. Start at 10 bucks and it doesn't leave you much room to manuever later in the game's lifespan, either for permanent price-drops, or for discounts.

I think GOG's attempts at newer games from other publishers accounts for the price difference on some titles - they're trying to keep up with Steam, and can't force some publishers into the maximum-price. Slightly disrespectful in a way - why is the new Age of Wonders allowed to be so much, when Influx wasn't? But also proves that, yeah, they could easily increase the price cap, or get rid of it entirely.
