Cant comment on juan of the dead but I agree regarding shaun. Never understood the hype around that movie. Then again im not a pegg/frost fan at all, dont find them the least bit funny...

Oblivion 8/10
Cruise was nice. Man still can act. The hole football thing. Nice shivers. Good audio design.
I just don't like Olga.
also
Anyone who says the story is shit and they figured it out within the first ten minutes is a lying sack of shit. There's very little foreshadowing. You need at least half an hour to get the basic, and an hour to get the whole thing. Even the basic plot isn't alluded to.
Spoiler: | and also stop talking about moon when comparing this movie... cause after i saw 49, mem wipe, I was all... clones they're all clones... lolololololol and guess what. they were clones. FUCK YOU. It was obvious they were clones 30/45 minutes in |

I also watched Oblivion last night and my score is 8/10.
Movie looks and sounds good, Cruise was ok-ish, so was Freeman and Nikolaj. Olga on the other hand was meh... It's a good movie, recommend it.
Spoiler: | I also figured out that scavangers are people, but I thought that it is fight between some large corporation and "free people". Only later I figured out all about aliens, clones, etc... |

Spoiler: | I'm talking about the main plot, not the oh they're clones. the 49, the call signs, and the attitude from sally gave it away. Yes. if you watch the whole movie again, you'll realize from early on that they're clones and the tiny tidbits they've left for you to realize that. It's not thinly scripted by any means. It shows off the simple work that they're doing... a day in the life... and it's done real well. but hey... if you figured out that they're the alien invaders... then good on you |

And my point was that not everyone gives a shit about image quality and only sees a movie if the absolute best super duper release/whatever is out or not.

FOR THE FCUKING TEN THOUSANDTH TIME to those tards making peanut gallery comments "why bother downloading < R5/6 scene/non-sense/whatever-the-fcuk-scene releases)":
..because we can at least re-watch the movie and re-live parts we saw in the theater (without having to re-watch it totally) OR at least we saved $40-60 PER MOVIE and can at least engage in recent conversation about the flick snickering under our noses having seen it for free EVEN IN A DEGRADED STATE.
There are, what, 4-7 movies released a week (not including Bollywood or other studios) on the planet so imagine even if you went to see 1-2 a month how much far worse off you are? Now tack on having kids, busy career, etc etc... RIIGHHTTT...
I'll take blurry cams and TS BS 10,000x over spending $40-60 a shot kuzz I won't be REMOTELY in soo much FCUKING DEBT in the mid-term as you basement-dwelling "lugan teenager" "mommy funds my social life" wankos! Har har!

Honestly, I dont see a significant difference between a 5-7Gb 720p with 1500kbps DTS Sound, and a 1080p Video on my 46" Sony TV.
Obviously on my 1920x1200 Monitor I can see the difference, as I sit directly in front of it. On the TV a 720p LubeRay Rip is plenty enough (for me).
"Enlightenment is man's emergence from his self-imposed nonage. Nonage is the inability to use one's own understanding without another's guidance. This nonage is self-imposed if its cause lies not in lack of understanding but in indecision and lack of courage to use one's own mind without another's guidance. Dare to know! (Sapere aude.) "Have the courage to use your own understanding," is therefore the motto of the enlightenment."

Spoiler: | No the alien thing I didn't conclude, only the clone part. But when the alien revelation came I was just so disinterested in the movie at that point for it to carry any weight for me or the other I was watching the movie with. Overall for me it was just more bad cliches in the movie to outweigh the few good aspects of it, sadly. If I should give it a grade now it would be around 4-5 out of 10, I was very disappointed afterwards. |
That is all I have to say, back to rating movies.
A place beyond the pines 7/10 - Solid movie, though seems a bit to ambitious at times and isn't really able to live up to that.
Donnie Brasco 9/10 - Superb film, the acting, the direction, the story, forget about it

Spoiler: | I feel the twist is as powerful as the twist in the prestige. The very fact that jack reacher was used as a solider to help eliminate more than half the planet is pretty epic. The whole scenario is very well sci-fi. Only thing I didn't like is how it didn't really affect him when he found out. He carried on like... oh it was something I did, but it's done... lets deal with it. That's the only part that bothered me. Everyone else played that part perfectly. Also how the scavengers were the last surviving people of the planet. It's very well thought out. Yeah you can tell they're human cause of bipedal and shit, my girl screamed out they're humeeeeen!!! And I'm like well there are also aliens out there who walk on two feet, or maybe they're apes? |
Overall very strong sci-fi limited by the fact that it's more of a pew pew movie and it could've been so much more. Right now it's up... but bowies son went above and beyond with his first directorial debut.
