Frankly the biggest off putting for me was the movie never felt natural , Juan of the Dead despite being not in English was more enjoyable.

Oblivion 8/10
Cruise was nice. Man still can act. The hole football thing. Nice shivers. Good audio design.
I just don't like Olga.

also
Anyone who says the story is shit and they figured it out within the first ten minutes is a lying sack of shit. There's very little foreshadowing. You need at least half an hour to get the basic, and an hour to get the whole thing. Even the basic plot isn't alluded to.

I also watched Oblivion last night and my score is 8/10.
Movie looks and sounds good, Cruise was ok-ish, so was Freeman and Nikolaj. Olga on the other hand was meh... It's a good movie, recommend it.

Both were fantastic movies.
Both are similar in the basic plot idea.

At least that's what led me to my conclusion within the first 15 minutes and I was disappointed, but then the overall plot went waaaaay beyond my expectation and it was pleasantly expanded upon in a very nice sci-fi fashion.

I do believe that if the movie had been slower, less pew-pew-pew and not with tom cruise but some now-serious drama actor... it would've been a fantastic sci-fi movie. Heck it could've been one of the greats. The whole story is just mind blowing. And to think that a kid not that much older than us came up with something so fresh...

Maybe there is hope for true sci-fi.

And my point was that not everyone gives a shit about image quality and only sees a movie if the absolute best super duper release/whatever is out or not.

FOR THE FCUKING TEN THOUSANDTH TIME to those tards making peanut gallery comments "why bother downloading < R5/6 scene/non-sense/whatever-the-fcuk-scene releases)":

..because we can at least re-watch the movie and re-live parts we saw in the theater (without having to re-watch it totally) OR at least we saved $40-60 PER MOVIE and can at least engage in recent conversation about the flick snickering under our noses having seen it for free EVEN IN A DEGRADED STATE.

There are, what, 4-7 movies released a week (not including Bollywood or other studios) on the planet so imagine even if you went to see 1-2 a month how much far worse off you are? Now tack on having kids, busy career, etc etc... RIIGHHTTT...

I'll take blurry cams and TS BS 10,000x over spending $40-60 a shot kuzz I won't be REMOTELY in soo much FCUKING DEBT in the mid-term as you basement-dwelling "lugan teenager" "mommy funds my social life" wankos! Har har! Very Happy

Honestly, I dont see a significant difference between a 5-7Gb 720p with 1500kbps DTS Sound, and a 1080p Video on my 46" Sony TV.

Obviously on my 1920x1200 Monitor I can see the difference, as I sit directly in front of it. On the TV a 720p LubeRay Rip is plenty enough (for me).

"Enlightenment is man's emergence from his self-imposed nonage. Nonage is the inability to use one's own understanding without another's guidance. This nonage is self-imposed if its cause lies not in lack of understanding but in indecision and lack of courage to use one's own mind without another's guidance. Dare to know! (Sapere aude.) "Have the courage to use your own understanding," is therefore the motto of the enlightenment."

That is all I have to say, back to rating movies.

A place beyond the pines 7/10 - Solid movie, though seems a bit to ambitious at times and isn't really able to live up to that.

Donnie Brasco 9/10 - Superb film, the acting, the direction, the story, forget about it Very Happy

Letters from Iwo Jima 9.5/10

I don't remember how many times i've seen it so far, but it has been a couple times. One of those rare gems of (anti) War movies. Now off to watch the (lesser but still great) Flags of our Fathers to complete the Duo Smile

Overall very strong sci-fi limited by the fact that it's more of a pew pew movie and it could've been so much more. Right now it's up... but bowies son went above and beyond with his first directorial debut.
