Since the machine can't even stay on at the XMB, I wouldn't even recommend trying to update the firmware in Recovery Mode either - since there's a very real chance the machine will shut down or die during firmware flashing.
To be honest, I recommend trying to get a refund as soon as possible. |
I know this. He probably knows it.
We'll see if he's going pretend he doesn't know it.
The only upper hand I have is that i know something about this stuff and I can place such a comment on his auction account that people won't buy from him. |
Actually it seems the guy is quite ok. Well he probably will reflow the ps3 and sell it further but i don't give a shit as long he gives me back my money.
He asked me to give him a detailed guide on how to downgrade. Means he knows jack shit about ps3`s... or maybe he just knows how to blow dry them haha.
So if i understand right the process is :
*my QA flag is not enabled
1 Use 999 downgrader (it's rebug official software)
2 Im not sure here if i should enable the QA flag or not ?
3. Instal 3.55 OFW from recovery.

Yup, it's not a problem at all. I could have sworn you were on Rogero, I'm not sure where I got that idea from, haha >_<
@topic
This didn't take long. Since Cobra announced their "all models" ODE, we knew 3k3y would eventually announce their own version too;

The long wait is over - there is now no need for CFW for key extraction. We will release firmwae updates for both PATA and SATA versions in the coming week.

Hey All,
Haven't been here in a bit but with the release of GTA V coming, I'm wondering what it will take to get my 3.55 KMEAW updated enough to test drive GTA.
Any help is appreciated!
Looks like it might be:
Verify QA flag enabled
install 4.46MFW by Habib
---
Hopefully re-bug comes out with 4.46 pretty quick here. It does seem like the Habib is working hard at making his release a strong contender though.

I'm in the same boat here. I need to update to the latest, best CFW and have no clue what's been going on these last 12 months with regard to PS3 hacks.
I, too, am very appreciative of any and all help that anyone can give.

Since you're on 3.55, updating is as simple as running QA Flag (and then the button combo) and then installing, from XMB or recovery, a 4.4x CFW PUP. You can either go Rebug 4.21 or Rogero 4.46 1.01 or this newcomer Habib though I'd recommend sticking to known sources, such as Rebug and Rogero, rather than an MFW put together by somebody without a pedigree.

Also bear in mind what kind of features if you're after - if you're after a simple MFW that plays BD game rips, has a simple PKG installer and has no complex, mindfucking features that the average gamer doesn't need, then go for Rogero or Habib but if you want the debug features and be able to swap retail and debug system status and LV2 (gameOS) kernels, then go for REBUG REX.

I'm on Kmeaw, iirc.
After reading recently about Sabin's(I think) issues with Rogero and losing an entire HDD's worth of stuff due to corruption, I think that I might just stick with Rebug and see what's what. Thanks for the help, guys, I can always count on The Hump!

Funny, because I haven't suffered from HDD corruption whenever I moved on from KMEAW to Rogero - and the newer CFWs from ALL the CFW creators haven't had issues like the HDD corruption for a while - that has only occurred when the post-3.55 CFW era was at its infancy, with Rogero pulling out the very first 4.21 CFW.

Okay, so let's see if I got this right:
Firstly, double check to ensure that I am on 3.55 kmeaw/rogero/rebug.
Then, run the QA flag enabler.
Check to see that it has been enabled by going to the Network menu, doing the button press (L1+L2+L3+R1+R2+Dpad down).
Once assured that QA Flag has been enabled, download the new 4.4x CFW (Rogero/Rebug/Habib) and then just run it from the system update menu (although, I prefer doing it from recovery, is that a bad thing in this case?).
If I'm not on 3.55, the only other step is to run Rogero's Downgrader first, right? Or do I actually need to run the downgrader, enable the QA flag, then run "Rogero CEX-3.55 CFW V3.7", and lastly install my new 4.4x CFW?
Being lazy isn't always a bad thing, but I'm too lazy to try and read every piece of info I can on this right now or else I'd figure it out on my own. Also, I don't want to brick the only PS3 that I have that is still exploitable.

Oh and just so it's out there; you don't *have* to downgrade to 3.55 if you're on any other MFW/CFW. You can easily just update via XMB/recovery from 4.21 CFW to 4.46 Rogero. Most people downgrade and dehash because it's safer and more guaranteed.

So I updated my PS3 the other night (to Rogero 4.46, the most recent build). None of my apps (Blackbox FTP and Multiman) will load now. Am I safe in assuming that I need to update those to the newest versions? I would've already tried it except I didn't have the time. I'm asking more out of curiosity than anything else...
Oh, and I didn't downgrade, but I did set the QA flag. What exactly is that QA flag thing? I know, I know, I should just go and read about it, but with work being so hectic lately, I barely have time to read what I'm typing here.
And thanks again for all of the help. If any of you need any help with, you know, stuff, I'll try to lend a hand...probably.

Yes update your apps.

If I recall correctly, the QA flag allows you to recover from bricking console.

i'm interested on customizing my ps3, but i really need only a custom firmware to do that? it's almost unbelievable if i think about the x360 modding (custom burner, drive spoofing/erasing/writing, etc.) i've done...
what's the downside on doing that? for the online i really don't care because i rarely go with it, but if i screw something or i want to go back in any case, it changes without any traces of it? i can get back online without bans?

all of them are downgradable? i've got the CECH-3004A. (don't remember the FW, gonna check tomorrow morning)
another question, how you can fill the HD of the ps3? is there, on the CFW, a file manager to transfer files by my pc with the usb port or even by wifi/ethernet? also, the DLC works with this manager?
and another question: why are you so excited for the new release? what they got new?
thanks sabin! ^^

The last time I checked, which was a while back so my memory is more than a little fuzzy, the 3004a couldn't be downgraded but, as I said, it was a while ago so things may have changed. You'll have to speak to cyclonefr, he may know more about the situation. As for filling the HDD? FTP or transfer from USB drive to internal using one of the many backup managers, like MultiMAN.
