I recently found a Russian version of Toy Story 3 in 60 FPS, which was obviously mind blowing.

("Toy Story 3 [BDRip-720p 60 FPS] By EXCLUSIF" for those interested, comes with an English audio track)

I only found it by accident, and couldn't find any other movie releases with a higher FPS, apart from a single release of The Hobbit at 25GB, which is a bit too much for me Wink

So now I'm wondering, are there actually any others, or is that Toy Story a one of kind thing?

As far as I know, The Hobbit is the only movie so far that was actually shot at 48fps. I suppose it can be different with CGI animation, since they can probably render it at whatever rate they want. Having said that, I wasn't aware of a TS3 60fps release.

My best guess is that any release of a movie (made for cinemas at least) that is supposedly over 24fps simply has some kind of interpolation tech applied (apart from Hobbit). In this case you could achieve the same/similar result by using 3rd party tools, or your own HDTV if it supports motion interpolation modes (most do these days).

lol exactly this, because we're not living in the past anymore. most people still don't know...

60fps re-encodes may have some more carefully computed motion weighted frames inserted but the real-time SVP thing is definitely good enough and saves tons of time.
a few artifacts will turn up either way, anyway
acceptance for high framerate footage is still at an all time low so I wouldn't expect any native 48/60fps footage anytime soon. a few selected movies at best, maybe 3 per year Laughing
there are some genres that profit immensely from it though, including 3d animation

MY GOD THIS!

This is 100 times better than that shit they advertise on TVs, TrueMotion etc.

120 FPS tends to be a bit choppy though lol.
3x Frames seesm to work just fine.

first id heard of smt. tried it (funnily enough, with avatar as well Very Happy) and.. well... eh... perhaps im doing something wrong, because while SOMETIMES it looks great (usually in very static or slow shots), but since i prefer action films, i actually see quite a lot of ghosting, and i really dislike it. perhaps its not that big of a deal if im on the other side of the room, but sitting infront of the pc its kinda uncomfortable.

I currently prefer 60fps for Nature Documentaries, Animation, Cartoons, The Newsroom... the rest I still watch at 24. But its fun watching some older movies you've watched 1000 times already in 60fps, changes the experience.
The brain can easily handle it, one experience should not ruin the other.

Slow shots and background activities are mostly perfect, quick pans cause some artifacts and ghosting, yes, but its manageable most of the time.
it must have been hard enough coding the plugin that inserts frames in real-time.
setting SVP shader to complicated helps a bit but you cant get rid of it the artifacts completely.
unless you use artifact masking, but every step sacrifices fluidity
its also very CPU intensive, so resources must be available

Isn't that the same as Motion² from Splash Pro on 60p setting?

Hehe, yeah it looks weird at first, but you get used to it after a few minutes. I find that it's a lot more relaxed on the eyes, feels more natural to look at.

Seems a bit too smooth for movies for my tastes (my TVs option is more subtle with a nice smoothing effect that doesn't look too soap oper-ish), but it's a nice option to play around with.

Got it set up with PotPlayer with presets, so now I can toggle the effect on and off with a push of a button while watching a movie. Will see if I grow to like it Smile

Yep, it's exactly the same for me. Somehow I can't stand the effect on 'regular' action movies/thrillers etc because it makes everything look so unnatural and Beautiful-like, whereas if it's applied to documentaries and animated movies I quite like the result. It depends on the movie though, LoTR for example was pretty great with the effect on.

Not by itself, no. It actually runs as a separate application and seems to inject itself into whatever you are playing (if it's supported). If it's not supported by your current configuration it simply won't work.

You might want to check the additional components it installs to see if it will overwrite your current ones.

Edit: and by overwriting I mean that it simply updates it to a different version if you don't have it. If you get SVP Lite it won't do even that - you will need to install additional stuff manually, so you'll have more control.

Edit: Or was it SVP Core? Smile
