I just wanna know what you think about these chains(if they are in your country that is...)
We had lidl in Norway for awhile, but it just failed hard and was only in Norway for 2 years. I went to a lidl in Sandefjord and there was me + 10 people. Thats odd I thought, went back two or tree times at different times a day. And it was the same story, pretty much nobody there... and the ones that where shopping there where old people (probably with a small pension). Because, yes it was cheap... even in Norway, but the products where just so... hmm, shitty  I know lidl is still big in Sweden and Denmark (and probably big parts of euripe), but how are they? Lidl might be way better in Germany than Norway for instance... even tho I doubt it :/
Aldi... well, iv been to 3 different Aldi's in Denmark, and everytime I enter one I die a little inside. They are just terrible in every possible way. Its cheap, so thats good... but thats about it. Anyone like Aldi?

I used to shop at Aldi occasionally a few years ago, the food is cheap but some of it tastes real bad too, so you need to know what is good and what isn't. I've only ever been to Lidl once and it seemed pretty much the same as Aldi. All the customers in Lidl seemed to be Polish.

I only go to aldi or lidl to get my groceries. they're pretty close and it's cheap. The products are pretty good. The Aldi and Lidl stores here in germany are also selling known products like coca cola, pringles and other known brands.

Lidl is pretty decent over here; they do have their own cheapo stuff, but they also sell some of the same brands that the other chains sell, and usually for cheaper. 1 kg of cheese for example is 5.99€, when in other stores it can be even 7.49€.

In Belgium Lidl and Aldi do well. Lidl did a bit better a time because of having higher quality brands to sell in their store (aka Coca-cola, nutella,...).
Most people I knew shopped in different shops. For example I went mostly to Carrefour and bought a few things from Aldi and Lidl. But everytime I went to a store it was usually packed, be it: Carrefour,Delhaize,Colruyt,Lidl, Aldi...
Here in Sweden I only went two times to Lidl and that was because my Gf's dad saw something in promotion. The impression I got was the same as in Belgium, having mostly the same stuff and both times there were quite some customers.
Aldi, dunno if they are in Sweden, but I did like some products from them. Not everything is bad.
Now if we talk about how the stores are designed: Big crap! I have some education in Sales and experience and overall what I see here in Sweden is: they don't have much knowhow (for Aldi and Lidl it's a choice to keep prices down). Most of the stores I walk in here I die inside, and makes me wonder if I shouldn't offer my expertise because it looks more like ignorance rather than lazyness.
So mm, Aldi and Lidl aren't doing so bad in Europe

If you're a good/decent cook, lidl is the bomb, with their cheap vegetables and stuff who is as good as the more expensive varieties found in other supermarkets.
At least around here.
Too bad that I still need to work on my cooking skills

Bagging your own stuff at the supermarket is very normal in Norway, iv seen some of the employees doing it for older people if they got the time tho. But its rare.
Taking bags is OK in most countries, but in Denmark they are quite expensive (environmental thing) so when a friend of mine grabbed one after he paid for his stuff (yeah, he really forgot the bag) and just took one the casheer got pretty pissed of... they where 2.5kr each. And at some other stores they are 3-5kr each. Well, I won't get into danish politics, but it didn't help on my impression of Aldi (at least in Denmark) |
No store in Denmark gives you free bags.
8 out of 10 dentists prefer zipfero to competing brands(fraich3 and Mutantius)!

No store in Denmark gives you free bags. |
I know But in Norway they are 1-2kr, and they don't make a federal case if you take one...

That's normal here. We always have to bag our own stuff, doesn't matter which supermarket.
We also have a Lidl and Aldi here and we always do our shoppings there, because of the prices and the quality is good.

Only Aldi make you pay for bags here (maybe Lidl too, I can't remember). Bags are free at all the other supermarkets (I think?) but they have started to try and fit more in each bag now, probably to cut costs or make themselves look more environment friendly.

Love Lidl, they have cheap, quality stuff, like very cheap pasta, frozen fruit (berries), some cheap razors (Gillette is way to expensive, I mean the cartridges), cheap hygienic stuff like toothpaste, soap, everything is cheaper than in the local stores.

I like Rema 1000 - my wife and I greatly prefer Meny of course, but we're not averse to Rema 1000, Remi or Kiwi. As for the cheeriest bunch? Completely opposite for me, that award goes to Lidl too, heh, every Lidl I've ever been in has the same broken-soul miserable staff, whereas the few Aldis tend to be slightly more upbeat.

our biggest store here in switzerland removed all plastic bags couple years ago. Right thing to do imho.
And for Aldi and Lidl, they entered swiss market a couple years ago and so far, i don't think they're really catching on. But probably because they tried to carve out an existing market (we have our own discount shops etc.) and people won't change from one shop to another, just for the sake of it. Certainly not for a couple cents lol.

They should be smiling here in the UK. Back in 2001 the basic wage for people on the checkouts (as I would see every now and again in job advertisements) was £7 something per hour and that was a good wage for back then.

We got Aldi here. They're more of a lower budget grocery store but they've got a lot of good stuff. I usually shop there, I love their canned soups lol

We only have Lidl here and it's actually pretty decent, assuming that you go there and buy the right stuff.
They have many products that literally suck, along with some good ones/deals. You need to be smart and outplay them, so going there with someone who is experienced and can give you useful feedback/advices is very recommended
