There's murmurs of hd devkit midwinter.
They kind of have to put one out so devs can implement positional tracking and all the other superfancy shit that's in the consumer version.
I actually bought 3 month iRacing license just to try out on the rift.
Fucking shit won't launch!
Sin317-"im 31 years old and still surprised at how much shit comes out of my ass actually ..."
SteamDRM-"Call of Duty is the symbol of the true perfection in every aspect. Call of Duty games are like Mozart's/Beethoven's symphonies"
deadpoetic-"are you new to the cyberspace?"
This.
Still immersive as hell, and enough to develop on and see the potential, but it's really low res.
Also, unless you're a dev, there's nothing to play but tech demos and tests.
my questions :
do your eyes hurt after 1h or 3h ?
how is your nose situated , does it hurt
does this strap hold it , is it to thigh ? do you feel it on your head after 3h?
how heavy is it , does it bother you when you place it on your head ?
nothing hurts when eye distance (IPD) is correctly calibrated
just a carsick feel at first until you get used to VR
it's not heavy (and consumer version will be a lot lighter) but i can feel it on my nose and cheeks after a while
it was a bit tight for my huge nose ridge so i added some padding on mine
Spoiler:
apart from nose ridge it's all adjustable, and surely more so for consumer version.

what are the max resolution on this device and what are the mhz ? 120 or
is it only a display or are ear peace headphones are in it
no headphones atleast in devkit - res and other deficiencies get fixed in the consumer model - specs of which we do not yet know, other than at least 1080p
Thanks for these info Shole.
Do you know how long is the delay from order to delivery for the devkit ?
I think I will not be able to wait for the HD devkit nor the consumer version. ^^

I used mine quite a lot initially , but not so much atm. Metacraft looks good though, positional sound and voice is said to really add to the immersion
These Tridef drivers are very good IMO! I'm using them to play Call of Cthulhu: Dark Corners of the Earth on my Rift. Very good 3D and headtracking, perfectly suited to such a first-person game with minimal HUD.
FANTASTIC storytelling and atmosphere, BTW. Very pleasantly surprised by this (older) game. One of the best Rift experiences for me, so far
I'll be revisiting loads of older games with the Tridef drivers. Thief: Deadly Shadows is high on my list.
Had to rip the rift off when playing Call of Cthulhu tonight. In the dark, alone (which actually doesn't even matter when you're wearing a rift ). I had a horribly pounding heart. WTF, I haven't felt so panicky since Silent Hill 2.
Dark Corners of the Earth is amazing, one of the most underrated games ever in my opinion. I can't even imagine the hotel scene played with the Rift.
And good luck with Deadly Shadows, especially when you enter the Shalebridge Cradle . Then to complete the circle you can switch to Amnesia and Clive Barker's Undying, so we can call the hospital and tell them to keep the defibrillators ready.
ho man... Cthulhu is too much for me..I have to go thru it in very small portions. The chase scene is pretty horrible in VR cos when you look over your shoulder IRL the headtracking, well, you can't really "look away" ! The suspense was especially bad in that scene yea, as well as some other scenes (such as Mother growling in the attic! played that one while smoking hash oil late at night ). But pretty fucking horrid game overall, good grief, 9/10 at least.
It's a very very tight experience with the rift, the HUD-less gameplay works great and the positional audio is quite good too. Highly recommended.
I was a big fan of Penumbra1/2/Amnesia and have some dim but good memories of Undying. Gonna start those soon (with the TriDef drivers) but will have to take them slowly :/
I remember people raging about motion controllers etc, and now we get this and it's all praise. Fucking hell, this looks completely ridiculous. Reminds me of some very similar thing you put your baby in

Damn this is intense!
I'm crapping my pants with this and i don't even have a thing with spiders.
Can't wait for proper walking controls and a VR Aliens game.
Or even AvP.. predator could be tons of fun with a fully simulated hud.. beheading marines with wrist blades.. actually interactable simulated wrist computer... oh man..
I've seen 3d gopro footage on my rift (not this park vid) and it's pretty neat to "project" it onto a curved/circular surface for panoramic/360deg viewing!
Slightly related: Carmack posted this a couple hours ago:
It appears that he's working with pass-through cameras
If that would work smoothly with 3D-cams in real-time...

A <60 degree horizontal FOV 16:9 camera pass through feels very, very small inside a >90 degree HMD.
