Fallout 3 felt a lot more atmospheric than NV (which had more of the feel of a western game with hints of a Fallout setting) to me. Granted, it could be that after FO3, NV in many ways merely felt like a repeat of the same thing - if they had been released in reverse order, maybe I'd have felt different.
Personal preferences are always so conflicting when it comes to Fallout 3 vs New Vegas.
Some people prefer F3's more linear structure in favour of the best post-apocalyptic atmosphere, others enjoy NV's multi-layered quests and structure more despite the "generic" locations (it's all relative, though^^).
I'm a NV fan for many different reasons (better characters, dialogues, quests, more customization etc)...but one thing is for sure, without the work of talented modders, these games would be much less entertaining. As usual with them Gamebryoken-powered titles.
Hi, can anyone suggest me a few good mods? I'm planning to do a F3 playthrough soon. I'm looking for mods that improve graphics and ones that modify balance and/or add meaningful gameplay elements. Please just list a few most important ones.
CRAFT
CALIBR
Wanderer's Edition
Project Beauty
Mart's Mutants
darNified UI
RH_IRONSIGHTS (I am not sure but I think it was implemented in FWE BUT I may be wrong about that)
F3ProjectRealityMkI
Even better for him them. I just copied the main mods from my order list and I am not sure whats included in FWE, etc, because it was sooo long since I assembled this PERFECT list of must have mods
Also if you like role playing I really recommend you to get Tailor Maid. But you have to find it outside of the nexus, because it got deleted. You know their sick rules.

Talking of Fallout Wanderer's Edition, I've tried to get this working with Nexus Mod Manager but failed (game only loads so far then crashes). Is it incompatible with NMM or am I doing something wrong? I have the GOTY edition of FO3.
I guess you never bothered to read the ReadMe because it says its recommended to use FOMM for FWE. And I think FOMM is the better choice for F3 overall. NMM is good only for Skyrim, imo.

Cheers, will try that. Used to use FOMM back in the day.
I bought FO3 GOTY at the Quakecon sale on Fallout day.
Steam ran out of keys.
3 days and counting and still no GFWL key so it wont run, and not a word from Steam or Bethesda.
Had to go back to my old pirate copy to play the game I paid for. A bit pathetic on Steam's part.
It seems to need to run once with the key first before you can run without GFWL.
I can run it with fallout3.exe but not the launcher, and cant set any graphic settings.
Search for "xliveless" or use this; http://fallout3.nexusmods.com/mods/1086/? However, if you still want achievements and want to play with Xlive for now while you wait for your key; simply play OFFLINE
~edit~
Also, FO3 is one of those games that can be GfWL activated with any other older GfWL key, it was part of the old GfWL glitch.

Plus, seeing as the only difference between the "old" copy and the legit one is the GFWL and achieveents, Id like to have that option available.
What does the launcher have to do with GFWL? Are you saying that STEAM doesn't allow you to even launch the game, because the GFWL key is not assigned to your Steam account? That would be really stupid. Also, you can probably change the graphics settings by editing an .ini file in My Documents.
ASUS GTX 660 2GB, AMD Phenom II X4 955 BE, MSI 870-G45, 4GB DDR3 1333, Plextor M5 Pro 128GB, WD Red 1TB
Back to it then; I just created 20 bottlecap mines. Time to lay some elaborate traps to send Raider limbs in a dozen different directions
I simply cannot fathom to ever "roll" an FO3 character that has explosives as one of the "major" skills... probably the most fun game out there when using explosives
*creeps through decayed building, hears supermutant dialogue around the corner*
*times grenade, ricochets it past the corner*
*screams, mutant legs flies out*
I fear I may be following ixi soon too

achievements
the most retarded thing ever made
i have a conversation with one of my friends the other day , he said i didnt completed a game he saw on my list and i should try it again ... i was like I did the story line and thats it ... fuck who cares about killing a thing with this gun , jumping 39999 times , etc... My reaction made him clueless , he commented on this i play games the wrong way ... by that i said then lets play some ps2 , he answered he cant play games without any directions that achievements give him ... and he praised Steam for achievements and HD remakes of MGS and Devil May Cry for achievements , they finally made him play those games .... i was like

Oh dear lord Well, I guess it takes all sorts Personally, I find achievements a huge distraction due to my completionist nature.. I'm trying to play and the whole achievement bullshit is always there like a splinter >_<

to end his conversation he said , without achievements YOU WOULDN'T KNEW THERE ARE DIFFERENT CHOICES OR ENDINGS IN A GAME ... i answered in those times you had to have a brain to play FPS and a good memory , because now you run in corridor followed by cut scenes that babysit you [even Anal Wake made you a retard with Previous ON Anal Wake] , he said that i am right and prised Golden eye remake .... and that he finally could play it

Yes that was the case. Without the GFWL key, Steam would not launch the game at all. I could run with fallout3.exe but the launcher would not run either.
Luckily Steam finally got the keys yesterday so that isnt an issue. Now I have to figure out all of the odd crashes, probably from old mods, that never seemed to happen with the pirated version running the same mods.
