Not hacking related, but something that pissed me off about my PS3. So two days ago I was playing Dragons Dogma, something came up. It took longer than I expected and I was gone for 4-5 hours (the PS3 was on). Apparently, the console shut itself down. WTF? I know it has a timer when it's idling, but it shut itself off right in the middle of a game. I've lost only an hour of playtime, so it's fine, but this seemed off to me. Is it normal or is my PS3 bonkers? It didn't even save before quiting.
You need to check your 'Power Save Setting' and check if there is a time set for shutting down the PS3 after a certain period of inactivity.

biggest benefit is you don't have to patch game eboots and it takes 3 mins to update with almost 0 effort, so i don't see a single reason not to update.

At least Sony has one thing going for them unlike MS; you can still download game updates with a banned account/console You don't need to be signed into PSN to download game updates \o/

it doesnt matter, when you use multiman for example, the game that sony sees is multiman.
with multiman stealth you can make it show a real game instead, like rogue warrior, but that doesnt help in the long run either.
after i got banned with my flashed 360 3-4 years ago, i got jtag and ps3 cfw and never gone with them online. saves me from getting banned and disappointment that i lost something.

Just wanted to give a heads up to anyone who does and has tried reapplying heatsink compound without much success.
The trick is to not tighten the clamp screws right up. Leave a few millimetres for movement so the spring can adjust for expansion. I tried many times before realising this..doh.. If you tighten it right down the spring clamp just becomes a washer.

Good question.. I was just on a couple weeks ago, and I hadn't used it until a couple days ago and didn't do much. Tried to pop on super quick and had the ban messages.
I guess it depends on whether you play games or not? I was one of those that received the original "we detected unauthorised software. Please remove it or your account and system may receive network bans" email from back in 2010, but I never play games online and have been on "PSN" (ie; store) with CFW since that day -- no ban yet. If you're playing games, I guess they don't like that - but just accessing the store? Spending cash (or potentially spending)? Well, that's just gravy

I may try another PS3 someday with those 3K3Y things or whatever those things are doing. Loading official FW and being able to load games from an external NTFS drive. Unless I'm wrong about how that works... ;p Haven't been following the ODE stuff too closely...

I do the same thing I don't use "Stealth" MultiMAN and I've activated over 3400 RAPs so far, with around 250GB of PSN titles The only difference is that I've not played anything online - the only "online" function I've used is Rainbow Moon's "upload save data" and Dragon Crown's "upload save data" functions .. and even then, that was just to test if they worked
I guess it's just bad luck. Shame they banned both your account AND machine though, that's just sticking the boot in, haha.
Haha, yah, I want my account back damnit... ;p My Vita survived though, I expected it to but you never know, since it was also tied to my banned username, wasn't sure how far their hammer would go!
@Jackq : you are right. Blops 2 is almost an instant ban, it has its own Cfw check which is more efficient than Sony's one.
You will definitely "survive" longer with only browsing psn store or sync trophies.
I didn't check all new games, only blops 2 because of the rumors around it, and yeah, this one is a ban fest. Probably they are reporting to Sony since obviously they can't ban you from psn directly.
But be careful, even if you didn't boot blops 2, you will get banned one day or another, not that it s really troublesome, as Sabin said in the end, it only blocks you from Online Play. Sony allows you to do anything else without psn, including browsing their store from PC.
3.55 is safe from these Sony checks though, this one only checks for homebrew (which happened when we received that email from them back in 2011 ). I m not sure which firmware added these checks, maybe 3.56 since they were threatening us back then with a root kit, but I never really bothered to check.
