hate to bash this series as it is one of my favourite 'franchises'
but you're absolutely right. bought and pre-ordered every single one until now...

Yeah, I really liked going from a crappy mosquito ship to an awesome elephant destroyer.
Probably gonna skip this entirely if they don't change it.

i loved the sense of accomplishment that you got when you could finally afford that bigger/better ship. to be locked into one hull throughout the 100's of hours of gameplay (taking my X3/TC gametime as a template) would just feel, dull*, i think
* cant think of the right word

Same here, though my greatest sense of accomplishment was forcing pirates to eject from their ships... and then spacewalking over to theirs and taking command. No greater feeling! I cannot wait to tackle this kind of stuff in Star Citizen!

I would really like to be able to play this game but im afraid that even minimum system requirements will be pretty high.

it was the one of the best series for sure... and Xtended mod moved into a good direction... i've absolutely loved it. I did think that Rebirth will take the best of Xtended mod and add even more content.... but it is a pitty that they(egosoft) decided to take this approach... the series about building empire, flying many different ships, finding rare ones .... it will die... and i hope they will realize it soon enough so they can work on another old school XTC game....

Wait, so by saying you are bind to one ship only means I cannot change the ship itself? That's plain retarded and derp design desicion... What the fuck were they thinking...

Yeah that sucks, a lot actually...I only hope the customization is amazing enough to make us "forget" about that aspect, at least partially. Still a weird decision. Perhaps some heavy modding will fix that? Time will tell.

I guess It'll be like say Darkstar One where you have a single ship but upgrade it over time, unsure if size and such can be affected (I have no idea how this game will work.) but maybe third party modifications can get around those limitations?

Ok so while we wait for this what is the best choice from the series. Having only played and finished X:btf and spent a very little amount of time in X3. what is best choice and do any of them other than the first have cockpits?

It has the most features, pretty much the most complete. There is only one thing that can be annoying, is that when you automate things, you have to make sure you don't let your ships enter the battleground sectors. No matter how lovey-dovey you are with the participants in the war, there will ALWAYS be somebody shooting your transports down. Mostly terrans.

I'm guessing the latest patches aren't cracked for Albion prelude. I guess steam is the way to go. £9.99 isn't too bad i guess.

There is a steam-free exe on their site. Egosoft is famous for only having DRM in the early days of their games. They tend to remove them in a few patches into it.
