You can always check the free version.

It's awesome with randomely generated levels but really hard.

Yeah, pretty much. The first time I played it (the original free PC game), I rage-uninstalled it after a particularly cheap death. I was close to breaking a gamepad (and potentially other things) over it. The next day I rage-reinstalled it, started a new game and got the shortcut to level 8, then did level 8 to 16 in a single go...and beat the game. It was well worth it to give a middle-finger to the rogue-like that tries to defeat me! I'm sure there are people who can do a straight run, but considering I hadn't ventured much past level 8, to do 8-16 + boss first try was really one of my best moments in gaming.

Very much looking forward to repeating my vengeance with the HD version.

It features modern HD graphics as well as a large amount of new content, including (but not limited to) new enemies, areas, terrain and items, as well as new 11 player characters, an updated player records system and online worldwide leaderboards and rankings.
It also features new multiplayer game modes, including four-player local co-op adventures and a frantic deathmatch mode.

I love this game, obviously, but I mentioned that there is one thing I would change. I don't like the damsel mechanic. There's a woman in a red dress in every level who you can transport to the exit to earn a kiss and an extra heart piece. You can also find her in seedy kissing booth shops, where you can buy another heart for a few thousand bucks. Spelunky lets you change the damsel to a guy or even a pug dog, but it still makes me uneasy. Innocently included, it feels out of place in a game that has so deeply understood and overcome many other mistakes that existed in the games from which it draws influence.

But that's just a funny collectible or bonus no? And it can even be changed to a man and should you prefer something more innocent, a small dog.

Odd complaint, or at least that's how I see it.
(This type of mechanic has also been present in old NES titles and such so it should be fairly well established without causing any larger reactions.)

Women can't be allowed at all in games unless they're the protagonist tomboy hero.

According to those people anyway.

Just tried it, great little game if your looking for a brutal rogue-like. Random levels, limited lives + permanent death, all you have to do is collect goodies, save the Damsel in Distress for the joy of Miss Sarkeesian ( Cool Face - in my case it's a pug Laughing) and find the exit.

Everything looks easy at first, but after a while the game starts being a sneaky bastard, especially if you're overconfident.

People like him and John Walker need to get a good hard slap in the face. With a piano. Filled with explosives. While on course in a rocket towards the sun.

Seriously, am I the only one who gets really pissed off when I read shit like this ? I feel like beating some sense into these white knighting losers. NONE of my female friends object to any of this. It's only feminazi bitches like Anita Sarkeesian (who I hope will someday be caught in a burning house only for the firemen to go "meh, she's an independant woman, she doesn't need men to rescue her") that speak out at the tiniest of an excuse. I can kinda understand with games like Dragon's Crown but when you even bitch and whine about games like Spelunky????

No, you are not a beautiful or unique snowflake.
The problem here is that no matter the game, someone will always bitch about something. The damsel mechanic is not even that important in this game and you can change the Damsel to something else. But that doesn't seem to be enough.

This update attempts to fix a few things:

1) Input lag on menus, or the inability to get past the character select screen.

2) Crashing when starting up and/or changing resolutions.

3) * and @ in Steam username will no longer freeze/cause display errors in game.

4) Bats on title screen no longer flap in unison

5) Mouse cursor will fade out a bit quicker when not in use.

Let me know if it works for ya!

<3 Andy

The game has updated three times so far, unsure if this is all of the changes or just the most recent ones.

EDIT: Went through the game files, seems only Spelunky.exe is updated.

Pretty good rogue-like game. I wish the ghost would give you little bit more time, i think it is 2min 30sec, but i guess thats the point of it, that you rush through the levels while trying to get most money and avoid shit. Smile
