I'm a real fan of XCom and while this isn't turn-based isometric the game does have its charms. The story is very interesting with gameplay reminiscent of the Brothers In Arms and Mass Effect video games. The player has cover mechanics, with each party member having a host of skills that you as team leader implement using a radial dial system.
Flanking, cloaking, setting up heavy weapons, snipers and so forth all come together to make an interesting and varied game.
So far I've played about an hour, subsequently I'm limited to three, two other party members, one a sniper and one an Engineer with myself as team leader.
The Engineer boasts skills such as setting up remote laser turrets, mining areas and interestingly a ad&d-type spell called FEAR, which is an area effect skill that causes the enemies within the radius of effect to lose courage and/or flee.
The Sniper has Cloak which allows him to manoeuvre across the entirety of the battlefield carrying out recon and setting up for flanking sniper shots with the ability to call in another type of AOE (area of effect) artillery blast which is very powerful early on, perhaps a little too powerful at the start.
You act as team leader, at this point in the game your ability is purely a healer and setting strategy and tactics.
The game goes into some sort of 'semi-pause' effect when you hit the B button, a 'field of war' tactical option which allows you free reign over the environment to allow the assigning of your troops and your preferred method of attack. However, the game has not paused, instead time has slowed right down which puts pressure on the gamer to come up with his strategy asap.
Like Mass Effect your character has a multiple-choice dialogue system which fleshes out the story and background.
The only criticism so far is the graphics, don't get me wrong they are fine; however, considering where we are in the life of the 360 I expected more. If you check out The Last Of Us on the PS3 you will be astonished at the incredible graphics which indicates how much life is left in the console, can that be said of the 360? I'm not so sure, I believe the 360 plateaued about 2 years ago and nothing since has improved on that level of quality.

Thanks for the impressions @DNACowboy, this does seem better than the generic shooter I was initially expecting. So it looks like you can play it as you prefer, as in a simple third-person shooter with minimal support from team mates, or more tactical and strategically by issuing commands and getting ur squad to disorient/flank/decimate your enemies. Sounds good to me Will probably give this a go on the PC then.
Btw, anyone know if you are limited to these two types of squad members, or if more choices are there down the line. Also what about the main character? Does he have a choice of several abilities or predefined ones?

Unknown as of yet, once I play a little more I'll let you know.
I don't have TV here waiting for my first pay at the beginning of the month to actually buy one...sitting in the half empty apartment is depressive.. And beginning from scratch is harder than I thought , slowly buying things tho..one by one , bought new computer , phone..at least I can afford almost everything with my pay now and only thing to do is to just be patient..which Im not..
Buy some video input adapter in USB or whatever and plug your console to it ? I'm not sure it exists but I know it did back then during the composite era.
Agreed With Cowboy. I really enjoyed this way more than I thought I would.
The action was handled well the secondary characters aren't useless the AI is pretty good and the use of the tactics controls are easy. The story was good and the graphics were good. Not great just good.

It can also be pretty fucking cool to start over for sure though,. I get you though. It can be a bit depressing.
Completed
And strangely enough I actually think this was better than the Blacklist and SR4 even tho they are completely different games.
The gameplay is A LOT like Mass Effect. Play tactical or die, the game becomes pretty hard towards the end unless you play smart.
The side missions is a must, in total 9 and there is no way to become max rank (10) without doing them
+ Story, gameplay, awesome levels
- no weapon or item upgrades
Destructoid reviewed it and accidentally put the review up at 9AM (embargo is up at 9PM, exactly when the game comes out so you can't cancel your preorder)
4.5/10
Read the whole review, and still... 4.5/10 just isn't fair.
I also had the feeling that the game really tried hard to be liked (yeah, it sounds kinda strange)
It is a TPS with RPG elements... just like ME series.
I know it looked like shit on giantbomb quick look
3080, ps5, lg oled
Sin317-"im 31 years old and still surprised at how much shit comes out of my ass actually ..."
SteamDRM-"Call of Duty is the symbol of the true perfection in every aspect. Call of Duty games are like Mozart's/Beethoven's symphonies"
deadpoetic-"are you new to the cyberspace?"
I don't know about that review but I have kind of fun playing this game. It is not that shitty as they say. Of course that from start you are encounting all the hard enemies like that spider robot and enemies does not get harder in time but you have hard time at the beginning then it becomes easier to kill especially when your agents get some cool abilities like destroy enemies armor for a short time but that makes it even more enjoyable for me.
I haven't lost my mind. I know exactly where I left it.
