Deelix, does it feel like a DLC or is it justified as a completely new game.

Love the open world games (RDR being my fave so far). I loved SR2, and 3 was ok as well - but cant enjoy this one. As a previous poster said, its a bit TOO silly and OTT this time (for me, anyway).
More like crackdown than anything else with the crazy superpowers...if you loved that one, you may well love this.
I know open world games aren't about the graphics, but they seem to be even worse in this than in SR3...and permanent night - no day/night cycle? I know its to do with the alien takeover or something, but a bit lame really and has the effect of making the environment drab. And steelport is boring as fuck to walk/drive around in.
Lots to do in it, upgrades, side-missions and all, but sadly I was bored in a 'meh' way after an hour or two.
I think they were trying to remove this as far as possible from the GTA type world - they certainly succeeded in that, but its not for me.
The fact that some reviews and posters on here absolutely love it shows its not a bad game per se - so try it and see if you like it.

Completed campaign at 9h30min, 15 hours in now.
BTW this time the devs have made LOTS of sidequests in a away I don't really like. Its a mix of activities. I think you get sidequests until you have done pretty much everything in the game. Iv done TONS of them now.
ill give the game 7.5/10

Played about 8 hours now and my conclusion: Crap 1/10.
It's totally un-inspired crap copy and pasted from the last game with minor changes so they could slap the 4 on the box. The graphics are 2006ish and so is the gameplay. The collecting of the orbs is horrible because you move like you are on ice and it's really hard to pin point where you will land so collecting the orbs is frustrating as fuck. The gameplay is boring and the missions are nothing you have not seen a million times before. The sidequest area few different things from the last game that you need to do a million times over and over again to gain more XP. The AI wait what AI? There is no AI it's so broken that you will find no challenge to beat anyone in this game. Better go play Splinter Cell in the wait for GTA 5 at least that game is fun and challenging at times.

Can you still play the game and do side-missions after you finish the story?

Fun game to burn time on.
It's something different, but has its fun moments.
Not sure of there is more to expect from the series though.
Unless they come up with something.
Did anybody find a VTOL in the game?
Noticed that you can't really scan the tank and airplane(non alien).
To get them in your vehicles list.

The VTOL looks entirely different from the last game. It looks more like a flying scooter than anything else. Also, there are sidequests in which you steal an "infected" vehicle and then it gets added to your garage. I'm uncertain if there is a way in which to simply add them to your garage, but afaik the game doesn't approach those "special" vehicles the same way. Although, the infected motorcycle with purple neon lights is pretty nice.
As for the rest of the game, while it can be a bit repetitive, it has a lot of merits. Some might think that they just copy/pasted the new assets into the same world as SRIII, but if they did, they added a bunch of other, random things all over the place.
Spoiler: | Like the adventure-type minigame during one of the quests (it reminded me of some of the old Kemco games on the NES like Shadowgate and Deja Vu). Add to that the fact that the game will randomly spawn other entities imbued with the same set of super-powers as you which makes for a fun distraction for a minute or so. I also like the fact that, while on the way to one mission, you can stop and do a different mission and then pick right back up where you left off before you started that secondary mission. |
For all of its faults, SRIV does a few things pretty well, in my book, and I'm going to continue playing, taking my time to enjoy what I enjoy. I'll be done with it by early September, any which way.

Hobo Zombie: TRAAAAAAAIIIINNNNNNSSSSSS
Woman Zombie: COMPLAAAAAAAIIIIIIINNNNNSSSSS
Englishmen Zombie: REFRAAAAAAAAAIIIIIINNNNNSSSSS
Thanks for the idea Lutz!

Yeah you mean the alien thing, i got that pretty early on.
The alien ship can be easy also if you do the climb the towers thing.
I have only seen a actual human airplane once and that's with the mission on the military airbase.
