Launch coningents will be sold out for both.
Just look at the previous 2 generations ps2 sold around 150 million units xbox around 20, gamecube around 20. Everything spoke for sony, and then wii wonl with over 100 million and like 75 million for each, ps3 and xbox360. of course the lifetime sales of ps3/xbox 360 will come closer to 100 million by the time they are discontinued. but still, this was a major shift. We suddenly had three pretty much equally selling consoles. Even though the Wii was vastly underpowered, and the xbox didn't have a lot of game back then. It wasn't even clear if gta IV was going to be released on the 360 at first.
Television (USA Today and shit like that) will probably spin the xbox ones tv and kinect capability as "welcome to the future" - "look i can have skype calls on my tv while watching tv, omg!!!" once the release approaches. And that will probably pull a lot of people in. People will buy this thing for their grandparents when the price comes down and if it can position itself as the videophone...
All I'm saying is, there are soooo many unknowns yet, that any ultimate prediction seems kind of stupid imo. Both new consoles will probably do fairly well, and sell amounts close to one another. And that's what we should hope for. Since I'm getting both I want as many good games on both of them as possible. And a close competition means more good games...

Without competitivity, console prices would be much much higher, all games would be digital, all 2nd hand games would be non existent, and specially, Kinect would be mandatory
Now, because of this, I hope none crush the other one, because I want a proper next next gen of consoles. What made the PS4 and XONE what they are is because of competitivity.
Because of that too, the same will be likely reflected on the Wii U with most likely a cheaper console at the end of 2013, and Nintendo pushing out good exclusives like they were always good at, because they surely want to stay in the race.
And I salute them for persisting, because I was one of the first to think the 3DS sucked as hell when it was out, because it was underpowered, had shitty launch titles, and people didn't care about dedicated portable consoles (because of Smartphones), and I was obviously wrong, although I'm prolly not on the smartphone thing (less buyers for sure).
Now, the console sells like hot cake, thanks to competitivity and them wanting to sell their consoles.
The same thing could be said with the Vita, sadly I don't think Sony can pull a Nintendo on this one, we'll see. But because of Nintendo, they'll have to do things about it, and I'm sure the Vita price will decrease more & more, not because Sony are nice to us, but because Nintendo steal them customers.

3DS sales is still very small compared to the smartphones market,let alone,how PSP vita sales....
competition is always good,the problem with Nitnedo I still see them as stuck in the past,they have decent games,but not as much 3rd parties support NDS did,and smartphones now have,and most like won't have this gen.
Nintando strategy getting cheaper and weaker hardware still works for heandland,but as you can see,beside smartphone obviously far stronger then 3DS,most games doesn't really using the full hardware,and are cheap and very hardware damned,this why 3DS is still Vital to the market,but same strategy doesn't really work with Homeconsoles,cuz there,most games really using the hardware power,and people tired of buying previews gen console.

Well I'm sure it wasn't a decision like "Why not just fuck those countries", they probably can't produce enough consoles for launch and so they are concentrating on the fiscally more important markets. I'm certainly no expert but worldwide launches are probably not that easy to pull off. Look at the ps3, it released in japan and merica nearly half a year before getting anywhere else...

Why wouldn't they? Xbox One and PS4 are making money on every console sold afaik, unlike ps3 and xb360. So shouldn't they want to release it to as many countries as possible?

so far I don't see signify differents between PS3/PS4 in terms of graphics,the PS2 vs PSX was greater different. ,I guess the most noticeable change will be 1080p and 60 fps for most games,and lots for 3rd parties coming for both,we will probably see more noticeable improvements deeper in the life for the PS4.

I think it might be for all preorders, even if they are not delivered on launch, and I think there are still a lot of places taking pre-orders. Wasn't it that Amazon just can't guarantee anymore that there will be launch units?
But I agree this is still a good move, gives them some much needed positive PR.
New Coop fable also seems great. It runs on UE4 and I'm really excited to finally see an actual game running on that engine.
They also acquired some additional exclusive content (i.e. The Division), which could help them. And there are some very positive comments coming from the hands on time.
Overall good day for MS, or at least good morning Now Let's wait and see what Sony will come up with...
