Guys, what mods would you recommend ? Preferably the ones that won't affect difficulty.
I was thinking about toolboks( a set of manually activated tweaks), what else?
cheers

Previously I used the one to activate the Second Wave options, but those were added officially in a patch. I would play around with some of those, although I don't know if it requires you to complete the game first to become available (which is what the name would imply).
If you get ToolBoks, I'm not sure there is anything else of much interest, at least not last time I looked. Mostly it's just balance mods, which obviously will affect difficulty (one way or the other).

I see. I've never played it yet though I got it on steam when it was released ;P
Can I play indefinitely? Are there any time limits if you fool around too much? I wouldn't like it much heh

There are various stages that are gated by technology level and priority missions. Yes, you can play indefinitely as long as you never do the final mission (the game will warn you it is the point of no return), but what random missions become available depend on what stage you are at (e.g., Terror missions don't become available until about halfway through). One of the Second Wave options is to radically increase the time between stage progression, so that might be something you would be interested in. I can tell you it becomes pretty monotonous though, as there is a limited selection of maps and a very small pool of mission types. I would suggest starting with a normal playthrough first to get the hang of things before you go too crazy on the mods.

Finally Got to play it and I´m surprised in a good way, its streamlined done right.
Playing on classical some missions can get real hard, but im struggling more and more with the panic levels, those wimps keep dropping funds.
Probably should have started in Normal to learn what works best, but I rarely replay a game anyway.
I still miss a proper Xcom having a better insight over the Line of Sight/ Fire, a real base not just a GUI, and real tactical options instead of those special ability's.

Possibly a portion of the new achievements are for multiplayer. Personally, I am tempering my own expectations until we hear some official breakdown of what the addon comprises.

Quote: | 2K Games and developer Firaxis have just announced a new expansion - XCOM: Enemy Within!
The new content boasts new soldier abilities, including the ability to create genetic supre soldiers and full on power armour in the shape of the MEC, or Mechanised Exoskeletal Suit. Space Marines? Yeah, you bet!
There'll be new weapons and equipment, new aliens to confront and take down, a whole new strategic resource, called Meld, to exploit, and new tactical challenges and maps. 2K claims that there's so much new stuff in Enemy Within, that will take three or four complete playthroughs to discover it all. |

Sounds great - but 3 or 4 playthroughs to experience everything isn't that impressive. Certainly, I think they should have made maps much more varied and that it should take at least 10 playthroughs before you've seen all maps.

But is there a STORY or is it just 'play the same old randomized mission, but with new shit' kinda deal.
I thought xcom eu was fucking amazing, but it's piss poor barely there story campaign was the games biggest (and pretty much ONLY) failing for me. Want my single player games to have strong narratives interwoven with the gameplay, and while he game had phenomenal gameplay, it's story was a total failure.

$30 and no story is what I read on another site. Also possibly standalone, so not sure how that works. Sounds like just a bunch of random skirmish missions.

Meh. Would much rather see a deeper strategic layer than a few new aliens and techs. When I first heard the title "Enemy Within" I thought of human factions siding with the aliens - could have been interesting. Plus, new maps will be nice to make things less samey, but throwing in random civvies to non-terror missions and more optional objectives would go a lot further, imo. Won't pay over £5 for this.

I still love this game... Sure it's not quite the same as the original, but I still think it rocks. My only complaint was we should have an option to remove the cinematic killshots, cos you know the moment the soldier takes the shot if you have scored a kill or not if it zooms in... the ipad version doesn't have that and I feel it improves gameplay as your'e not just waiting for the animation to finish.

i love enemy unknown to bits and MORE of it is something im totally interested in... but no way am i buying it if theres no story and its priced RELATIVELY close to a new release full game.

Seems only the console version is standalone, not the PC version, according to RPS.

i just reinstalled the game (3 times actually, with and without updates) but i can't start the game. Or well, the game starts and immediately minimizes to desktop and i can't get back into it (when i click, it just warps into the game and right back out of it).
Any known reasons for this ?

ok fixed it by using -windowed. The stupid game uses a wrong resolution and that's why it couldn't show it.
What's up with that anyway. Hardly any game launches in the right resolution. I mean fucking ass, it's 2013 ... how comes, that they still didn't figured out a "use desktop resolution" in their games ? It's fucking pathetic.
