Yes, it seems there's no customization. I am already bored by this cockpit. I hope there are other cam views. If I am stuck with just 1 ship I hope I would be able to change the view once in a while.

This does look good but:

He talks earlier about trying to reach a mass audience of FPS shooter fans and the importance of them adding a game pad as a controller. Could the above quotes be signs that they have gone too far? Clearly, Newtonian physics are not part of the package. Are they making a game where the ship is really just a substitute for a guy with a gun?

I like the idea of simplifying the menu structures by making them conversations but if the combat portions do not feel like a space battle, the game will fail with fans. I don't want COD in space.

@davidmi58 I assume you take it as some sort of dumb down "rail shooter" thingy ?
I think it is rather a bad translation (youtube crap).

You can still do bombing passes ala Star Wars if you want Wink

And I agree, no more terrible menu, sub menu, sub sub sub menu, ... is really welcome.
As for Highway system replacing this weird SETA abomination.

it's pretty much the same controls as they added to x:3 albion prelude 3.0 as far as i can see (it shows the layout when you start the game). And it doesn't add anything, it just supports a gamepad now. The same controls were already on the pc since the beginning (strafe, roll etc.).

Actually .. did the ship ever "roll" in any of the clips ? Have to recheck that lol.

edit: yeah nm, roll is still there Smile phew.

Perhaps he's been playing too much on the 2DEES? It's a new Nintendo handheld that plays like the 3DEES only this has lower resolution graphics.

I think this looks pretty good. Can't blame them for implementing mass-compatible fps elements like strafing and more fast-paced gameplay as long as the economic dynamics stay in place. They are a small company, 7 years development, they have to appeal to a wider audience to get their investments back. The graphics look a tad overblown, but it certainly feels more alive than most other space sims. All in all I get the feeling they are aware of the basics that need to be preserved, so modding community has no problems removing or enhancing whatever elements they think make the game more appealing to oldschool x players. I only played a bit x2, it was too hard for me getting in, but this looks far more appealing now.

I hope you are right about the bad YT translation but when you can take you hands of the controller and the game plays itself, it worries me. Button spamming would be next up.

Yes, SETA sucks and the UI has been way overdue for an overhaul. I have played all the other X games and hope they are successful in making them more accessible without making it stupid.

That said, I am looking forward to it.

Yup, I too trust them blindly (which is rare these days), but never say never. Razz

I dare to say, I'm looking forward to this one more than SC, if only because of the 'deeper' gameplay and the fact that it's strictly a SP experience (very moddable too). Time will tell of course, but the last thing that we need now is another PC-exclusive to fail miserably :<
