The Raven - 4/10

Oh my.. James McTeigue.. From assistant director of The Matrix trilogy to director of V for Vendetta and then the Ninja Assassin crap and now this (crap again)..

A detective story that will make you fall asleep before you finish it. That is if you are not laughing hysterically at some of the performances (Cusack as the protagonist is most of the time good though).

A waste of celluloid. Avoid unless you want a good night's sleep.. Zzzzzz

Yeah, he was director of V as much as Derp S. Goyer is the writer of The Dark Knight. At the time, Larry W. was going through Lana W., so McTeigue was put as front-runner so the Watcha could have more privacy. But it is known they were VERY involved with the project down to the most little of things.

You are not far away from the truth that they were very involved; they were writers, producers, second unit (usually aka action) directors and they were everyday on the set.

Some shots also seem to be their style (the camera goes from his feet to his torso while V opens his coat to show he is strapped with explosives - the camera goes from his feet to his torso while Neo opens his coat to show has a dozen of guns inside it). Others not so much (the nearly endless shots of V speaking through TVs).

Also I should point out that Ninja Assassin has badly shot fight scenes because he used shaky cam and fast montage crap. You have to watch the BR behind the scenes extras to appreciate the choreography because he has failed to capture it successfully. Facepalm That is very much unlike the way the Wachowskis shot the action in their films AND how it was shot on V as well.

But on the other hand Raven (which has no real action btw) in the look and feel of its scenes is very similar to how V looked.

So I would say the truth is somewhere in between.

Now the part I disagree with is that they wanted more privacy.

I think V was mostly a film that could be shot in a studio set so it wouldn't be a problem to keep their privacy.

The truth is after Revolutions Larry said he didn't know if they would ever make a movie again anyway..

Quote:
Ken: Yeah. Well wait, but you're not just, you know, for things that I believe are public knowledge, you're not planning on going back and filming anymore Matrix things for the foreseeable future right now. You filmed the three of those, you know, in one long, intense five-ish year period, and you've sort of taken a break from that right now, yeah?

Larry: Yeah, the actual full span is probably ten years that we've been working on it.

Ken: Yeah.

Larry: And it's just, you know, that's the story. I don't know, we'll see...

Ken: Yeah.

Larry: Down the line I'm hoping that I recover enough to even wanna make another movie.

Ken: Yeah. Yeah. So you'll just sorta wait and see what unfolds?

Larry: Yeah, yeah.

Ken: Yeah?

Larry: I don't know, I used to love movies. [Ken laughs loudly] I used to go to movies all the time—I used to, you know, watch hundreds of them, hundreds a year, and now I can't stand them. [laughter] Somebody asked me what did the Matrix do to us in terms of watching other movies, and probably the most distorting aspect of having made these films is looking at movies and just feeling such a lack of ambition on the part of people who are making them.

Ken: Yeah.

Larry: I kind of think like—why bother?

Ken: Yeah. Yeah.

Larry: It's like, if they can't generate ambition and energy, why should I be interested?

Ken: Yeah. Yeah. Well you know look, I think that's an occupational hazard of anytime you try to bring some sort of quality or excellence to anything. I mean, frankly I feel the same way about writers, you know, I mean I bust my ass on these things and I pick up books and read through it, I go, "Jesus, this person you know, I could do this between stoplights. I mean, this is just horrible!"

Larry: Yeah, which is interesting, because at the same time, that is the thing that really enables you in the beginning. It's like, Kubrick used to talk about how when he first started he would go to the movies and he'd say "Christ, that was crap. I could do that standing on my head."

Ken: Yeah. Yeah. Yeah.

Larry: And you know you forget that crap is there before and after you do it. But before you do it it's like "Whoa!" It's inspiring. [laughs] And then after you do it, it's just...

Ken: Still there.

Larry: Yeah. It's kinda like defeating in a way.

So I could picture them feeling not yet ready to get 100% involved just yet.

I Spit on Your Grave 2,

Sick, brutal movie, some parts are a bit disturbing.. but well worth watching.
Be sure to put the kids to bed before you put this on, and you kinda need a strong stomach aswell.

I rate it 6.5 out of ten.

Star Trek: Into Blandness 6/10

2 points for "sherlock's" excellent performance. Everything else was pretty much an inferior rehash of the first movie, along with some predictable "surprises" (the one with kirk, in particular... wow who would have seen that one coming Rolling Eyes) and some very weak humor attempts.

Good job JJ&co. Reaction

Iron man 3 7.5/10 Quite enjoyable, loved the way they filmed the ending credits (first part)
Life of Pi 8/10 solid movie

Vertigo 8/10 have to judge it by its age, but it is still very good and some creepy moments sometimes.

Not in the sense that it's the best movie ever made, but it the sense that I wouldn't change a single thing. My mind is so blown away right now...!!!

Dead Man Down 8.5/10
Wow, came as a surprise, i expected mediocre but it was actually good. Colin Farrelll does a solid performance, as well as Naomi Rapace. Good acting, good music, simple believable story. Bit messy sometimes and not sure if I like the ending.

Other recommended films with Farrell: In Bruges, London Boulevard.

I thought Worlds end was the best of the 'three' in the trilogy.

Yeah, I said it.

Sean of the deads is good, but I found Hot Fuzz fucking terrible, Worlds end though was fucking hilarious.

started wading through my.. wow.. hundreds of movies that i THOUGHT at the time were a good idea to download, yet never got around to watching...

just watched machine gun preacher.. meh...

most surprising thing about this movie is how they managed to really make the main character very dynamic! and by that, i mean i dont think i have ever watched a movie where my opinion of the character has so drastically shifted so often during a movie... i went from indifference to hate to extreme hate to extreme love to hate to love to hate to more hate to indifference at the end.... but pretty much the guys a douche, through and through, its just sometimes its fun to watch him be an asshole, but generally its just frustrating.

and now i can happily delete this shitty movie, and fill its spot with some other new random 'seems like a good idea at the time' movie. yay!! Very Happy

4/10 - i was never bored enough to stop watching, but i generally hated the character, and some of the action was ok, but now that ive seen it, i wouldnt say it was interesting enough to deserve another watch.

The World's End 5/10

Damn, was looking forward to this, but was left very disappointed. Many of the jokes were off, and I hated Simon Pegg's character. I think I missed the bro-feeling and interaction between him and Nick Frost the most. The best one-liners and moments came from those moments. There's not even a "want anything from the shop?" line Sad
It didn't really felt British even. Half the fun of Shaun and HF was the over the top Hollywood-action in a typically British setting.

They could've done a lot more with Pierce Brosnan's character too. Timothy Dalton was brilliant in Hot Fuzz, but Brosnan got only one scene to work with.

Another great film by Zal Batmanglij / Brit Marling. Oh, and the Doc's Song by Rostam Batmanglij (Vampire Weekend) is marvellous:

9.0/10

Now looking forward to a release of "I Origins". Can't wait for this one.
