does anyone know how you can play games that require 4.46 firmware on a console that has 4.41 without updating the console?
can you easily patch the game?

MultiMan will/should automatically patch that for you, just load as normal and MM will say something along the lines of "This game requires 4.46, patching..." etc

With the release of GTA V and the expensive undertaking of importing Asian games I was looking into jailbreaking my PS3 Slim, while it would be a bit of an undertaking it looked relatively easy.
The problem is, I am quite partial to my PSN account, name, plus subscription and trophys that go along with it. So I don't think I will Jailbreak it.
Do you think the developer scene for the PS3 will ever find a way of playing 'game demos' without the risk of getting console or id banned? I realise that no-one could really answer that easily, but could it be a possibility?
Also I was looking at the topic of burning PS3 games, Am I to understand correctly the factories burn the game with code or specific disc features so the public couldn't replicate it on there own blu-ray drive at home? Would it be possible in the future to be able to replicate the process as to burn a disc that an ofw PS3 would deem authentic?
Thanks!

Thank-you for the quick and informative reply sabin1981!
I will look at ODE devices for the PS3. A quick question, can your console id or psn get banned for playing ISODemos using one?

Eghhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh.... that's a tough question. ODEs are very new at the moment, so there hasn't been enough time to really see how Sony will respond. I would say there's always the chance, that's just the price you pay for piracy, but whether Sony WILL ban you or not.. well, only time will tell and with the PS4 out in two months, they may simply stop pursuing the matter so fiercely. I would say the risk is about equal with the 360 and backups.
As far as I know, the "official" Cobra and 3K3Y launchers are spoofed as demo discs so that when you run the launcher, it shows to the world that you're running a PS3 demo, then you have to reboot your system to play the new that you select from the launcher "ISOdemo" MultiMAN is now compatible with Cobra ODE and 3K3Y, thanks to a recent update, and that is also stealth spoofed too afaik.

I think I will wait at the moment for more info about ODEs. Would you be able to get trophys on the 'demos'? Thanks.

Have you ever used or know someone that has used an ODE Sabin? Do you have an opinion on which ODE is better, the Cobra or 3k3y? They do look pretty good but I don't know if people have been banned for using one.

I don't, I'm afraid. Everyone I know uses CFW. As for which is better? 3K3Y is from a team with a greater pedigree for ODEs but Cobra are pretty good also. Both seem pretty much equal in terms of features and performance.

How much of an effect will I see when I replace the original HDD in a fat PS3 (so really, really old) with a new HDD? I'm not really looking for space since I put on 1-2 games at most. Is it worth it for loading/streaming speed?

No, not really. If you're not hard up for space then the performance gains from switching the original drive to a better one are negligible unless it's an SSD. GT5 is really the only game that benefits from faster seek times, the rest are 2-3s at best and often not even that.

Surprising isn't it? I was expecting a larger performance jump as well, back when I upgraded my stock 60GB to a Spinpoint M7-640GB. Barely any jump except for really heavy loading games like GT5, but even that was a few seconds at most.

I can buy a used WD 320GB HDD, I don't know whether I should do it. It depends on how easy/fast it'll be to backup and replace the old HDD. There are enough guides but can someone tell me how long it usually takes? If I'll be spending two hours dicking around I won't do it.

Yeah, 2 hours and then some I'm afraid. Sony backup>transfer shit is laughably slow, you're looking at around 2 hours for backing up the 60GB to a USB/external drive and then another hour and a half to put the content back on your new 320GB drive.

Well nevermind then, Beyond Two Souls will probably be the last game I play anyway. Thanks again Sabin.

you can do it, but it won't change anything.
It could only speed up your XMB, but that's all.
