I'm not sure how often the wiki is updated, but apparently it's 2.0.0.9. I couldn't tell you for sure since I have the Steam version and not GOG.

http://www.gogwiki.com/wiki/Faster_Than_Light

~edit~

Scratch that... the version number appears to be the older installer version number. GOG forum states FLT is now, as of a few hours ago, at 1.03.3 -- GOG version of "2.0.1.10" according to one of the posts.

Now this is weird.

I was on an outdated beta version on Steam.

Then I went out of beta version, Steam downloaded v1.03.1
I switched back to beta (password : betapatch) and version updated to v1.03.3

How come beta version didn't auto update ?

Thanks for the head up Wink

Heya Sabin, or anyone else, got a link for the mod that slows the fleet down? I just picked this up today and really enjoying it but I can already see how the fleet is annoying Smile. I just wanna explore and play hehe.

This is the mod that slows the fleet down: http://www.ftlgame.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=2333

You can disable the fleet entirely by editing events.xml: http://ftlwiki.com/wiki/Modding_guide#Rebel_Fleet_Pursuit

Quote:
You can change this via events.xml:
Find the event START_GAME and/or START_BEACON
Add <modifyPursuit amount="-100000"/>

Edit: Oh I just realised the slower fleet mod download is dead. I'll try and find a working one, unless someone else has it and can upload.

And nope there's no alternate download link for that mod anywhere Sad

Thanks CB! I'll go with disabling the fleet for now so I can learn it a bit better. I like what I've played so far but still getting used to the game.

Ive mastered this game completely so there is no reason for me to start the game anymore :/
So one word of advice, dont disable anything, quickly enough you will learn the ropes (and theres where the fun is - in trying).

I'm not sure how you've mastered the game when it can be so random.
I saw a post on the official forum with someone claiming they can finish the game on Normal 100% of the time, I call bullshit on that. I've played 150+ hours and can still fail to make it out of the first sector at times.
There's runs where every ship in a sector has missiles, runs where I can't buy/find a decent weapon in the first 5 sectors, runs where there's hardly any scrap, runs where every single random event screws me over, and all the rest.
That's not including my own screw ups, artillery beam + teleporter can go very wrong Crying or Very sad
Maybe I just have bad luck.

Completely agree with not disabling anything, the fleet can be pretty grim but it's supposed to be, then there's the runs where you rip them apart Very Happy
It's a very steep learning curve at first but the feeling when you finally win is epic.
I do recommend enabling the option to see jump nodes, or whatever it's called, dead ends can be very bad.

There's absolutely nothing wrong with disabling the fleet, it's a pointless mechanic (IMO) that only serves as an artificial difficulty increaser, constantly forcing you to push on at an increasingly weakening rate. There's nothing fun about that to me Smile

You have to do them manually (as in be in the room), if the door control room is damaged. Every ship type has 2 different doors to space (if I din't remember too wrong).

My biggest achievement was sector 8, but i lacked good weapons to finish it :/ Shield and engine were maxed out, but my weapons didn't do any damage.
So if anyone has some good hints about what weapons to get, i'm all ears Smile

My personal favorite was either lasers or ion weapons to reduce the shields, immediately followed by one of those beam weapons which cannot reduce shields but damages the hull based on how many rooms it hits.

Always have something to bypass shields, either missiles or bombs, or try to board enemy ships (my favorite, best loot in most cases)

I'm shocked there's no expanded content for this yet, no official content at least, and the mod scene at the moment mostly consists of tweaking variables or replacing ships.

The tactics change with the ship and crew, but the basic protocol is to send most of your crew to manually extinguish the fire. Fallowed by repairs to the room and healing of the crew. Keep one guy on shield duty all the time. Don't let the fire get out of control, take care of it immediately. Don't rely on opening windows, this can cause more problems down the road.

Buy blast doors. Fire can't get past them.
Open windows and turn off oxygen, send your crew to extinguish it.

Like Prandur said, the best initial tactic is to use two weapons in tandem. Take the shield out with a laser, then fallow up with hopefully something stronger. Pair up weapon recharge rates, to allow you to use both at the same time.

Buy a second shield for your ship ASAP. Makes everything much easier.

Don't be afraid of the fleet. If you are clearing the current sector with no problem, and you think you can rescue someone or find a store, go for it and fight through if you need to. I don't mean fight with them on purpose, but you can be late to the exit a turn or two with no problems. Turning off the fleet is an option, but makes the game too easy and boring.

The beauty in FTL lies in many outcomes, from fairly simple mechanics. Now thinking about all the play-troughs I had with different ships and crew I'm having hard time giving general advice.

Mehh, I defeated the enemy boss the first time, then I had to engage him again, I circled around and got back to the base and was greeted with a "Hurr durr, enemy too close, arbitrary game over"

I really disliked the endgame in general

The best strategy imo is to seek the boss out and fight him as soon as possible. If you have a properly equipped ship, then it's not such a hard fight... cloaking3+shields 4+good evasion helps a lot, as well as having a good beam weapon in combination with some lasers to breach the shields.

We’ve been working hard over the summer and are excited to finally officially announce a free expansion, FTL: Advanced Edition! FTL: AE is a huge content addition that includes new weapons, drones, augments, systems, enemies, and more. Here are some details on just a few of the additions visible in the trailer:

Mind Control System: Temporarily turn enemies into allies. Force a boarder to repair the damage they just did, or have the enemy pilot sabotage their own helm.
Hacking System: Lockdown and disrupt enemy systems. Unique effects for each system, ranging from forcing a teleporter remove boarders to making the medbay damage instead of heal.
New Sector and Events: Our writer Tom Jubert has returned along with special guest writer Chris Avellone (of Planescape fame), who managed to find some time for us between his work on Project Eternity and Wasteland 2. They’ve been helping us add a new sector and scatter new events throughout the rest of the game.
New Weapons and Effects: Many new weapons that take advantage of new mechanics: overcharging to increase the number of volleys, stun effects to freeze crew, and area effect targeting, to name a few.
And more systems, drones, augments, enemy ships, enemy layouts, and hostile environments. All of which we’ll be sure to talk about more in the coming weeks!

In addition to new content, we’ve continued to polish FTL and add some of the most requested small features. As a few examples: you’ll be able to save your crew positions and send them back to battle-stations, save and quit during combat, and find more items for purchase in stores.

For the purists out there, FTL vanilla will still be available. All of the new content can be disabled from within the hangar before starting a new game.
Will be available in form of free update in Early 2014!
