Got stuck on a fucking pebble outside the farm during an invasion and some fat fuck literally ripped me in half. Couldn't run, dodge, jump - the pebble won.

I can't remember the last time I've ever had blood rage at a game, but I'm putting this down until I can play properly via mouse and keyboard instead of the fucking parkinson's fest that is a controller. Seriously, how do people stomach using such a shitty fucking thing?


I can never be free, because the shackles I wear can't be touched or be seen.

Every time he's been close to death I've just pressed ESC and quit to the menu, you start at the base and if you are carrying any base supplies the backpack gets dropped but you don't lose anything else other than maybe some mission progress and having to walk back to the area to try again. Smile

Things are getting really difficult however since I constantly get messages about survivors getting into conflicts which drops the happiness rating down to almost nothing and now there's a huge amount of hordes and infestations on the map which I can't do much about, I've tried clearing three of the infestations so far but in each case two - three zombies were stuck inside furniture and impossible to kill.

The constant calls for help and other mission requests are also quite tough and in most cases some survivor ends up dead and the morale drops to near minimum.
(I kill a feral zombie and just a few minutes later another call appears for a new hunt for a zombie, rescue a scavenger or help a enclave and the same mission will appear just a short while later, it's getting quite tough to manage.)

I dont know how they managed to do it, but holy shit this game gets TENSE, i think they could have made a better job if they increased the danger in the game, but when i get a mission to help someone and i open that door to see him in the floor and i start swinging and dodging and then tired and hurt and i see all the zombies coming to the noise, holy fuck what a rushhhhh

Im loving the game, it feels so great to go out to get stuff and build stuff, the noise vs the zombies awareness is amazing i love how it works. But still i feel the danger is too low, in tight situations its ok but sometimes i feel like the zombies are too easy to manage.

Still ill keep playing, i faced a Big Un, holy shit that was dangerous indeed. Cant imagine going to get some loot, bag full, BOOM noise and then see that a feral and a big un are coming in, oh boyyyy i gotta keep playing Very Happy Very Happy

Edit: BTW! Does anyone remember The Thing, the game based on the movie? Oh man how i wish the infection in this game would have copied the infection system from The Thing, i fucking loved how your partners would freak out and then the virus would activate and they transform in the monsters, i dont know how exactly the infections work in this game, but i sure hope that its unnoticeable and dynamic.

Yes I have - you can train people pretty fast if you use the bonuses right. You can max out the fighting skills (fighting, shooting, reflexes, powerhouse(if the char is powerhouse) for about an hour.

Which skill exactly is taking long for you? I think the only skill that takes time is wits but its not really important. The main fighting skills are leveling up pretty easy.

Oh... you mean INDIVIDUAL skills, not total? That's still just as bad and while it sure as hell doesn't take an hour to raise fighting from 1 to 7 .. even if it did, that's one hour per skill, of which characters have 5 of them. 5 hours per survivor and you usually want to keep around 14 survivors at minimum.

14 x 5 = 70. 70 hours of levelling. Amazing Sad It took me around 9 hours or so to get Marcus from 1 to 7 on his fighting skills (Fighting, Reflexes, Powerhouse and I think Shooting was around 3 or so because I didn't use it at the start, I don't remember Reflexes though)

Cardio is the slowest skill to raise, followed by Wits and then the Shooting/Fighting ones. I was running with one of my chars and fighting for an hour, managed to get Fighting from 1 to 3 and Shooting from 1 to 3.

My motto.. dont worry too much about the stats, just play and enjoy.. works for me.

what I find with the characters is, if you have blunt weapon, and one spec skill from the two first trees you can take, 2nd one usually being the round house kick that puts them on the deck instantly allowing for immediate finisher.. that is all ive needed in the game to survive zombies.

of course using everything else available is fun as well but there is something about beating a zombo on thead over and over that is quite satisfying Very Happy

If your survivors are weak, there's every chance they won't survive ambushes or sieges, so you have to tear arse across the map in order to save them. I don't care about losing some morale or whatever, that's easily replenished. As for "just play and enjoy"; I was until warriormax comes with the "you're not playing right" shit >_> I was thoroughly enjoying it, I still am, I just don't like permadeath - I wish we'd have had the option, especially since there's considerable effort invested in characters that may die because of being stuck in a pebble or because RNG says "nope, sorry, your lv7 uber warrior couldn't shake off a zombie and he dieded.. lolz... soz"

I'm actually dreading loading the game up now just in case RNG has decided that because someone was "angry" in the camp, they went on a kill-crazy rampage, murdered everyone, scrawled "FUK U LOOSERS LOLZ" on the wall using their entrails and then blew his own head off while I was away Laughing

anyhow yeah I see what you mean with the "help me out im stuck" missions and if they are useless maybe they die.. they dont always take long to go help out though do they, I just jump in car dash over run the fuckers over and they get in we go home lol..

So frustrating to lose a guy because of some spawn bug :/

1 Zombie left in a house and I thought let's kill it. Suddenly 30 zombies from around the place came barging in + a fricking zombie horde, killed about 15 but the ones that died just got refilled.

Was kinda funny to see a room filled up with zombies tho but argh frustrated I lost someone like that

(yes it was a bug, area and houses were cleared, was my last room in the neighbourhood. The horde was just unlucky timing tho )

run... one can fight and do so well but if ur over run. ... u run and hide... remember that thing they taught u in the beginning Very Happy hide and recoup then either go away or re attach rinse repeat.

I don't, I usually play exactly how I like and it tends to work out just fine. This is merely a conversation with Warrior about the merits of levelling all your key survivors and how long it takes, because it's certainly not an hour. Right now I'm trying to bring in more survivors so I can move to the Truck Station \o/ I had 12 survivors but then PLOT happened, now I only have 11 >_<

I had the EXACT same thing happen! I was helping out a runner in one of the houses, killed two Zeds and suddenly they just kept spawning! I must have killed 20 or 30 before finally thinking "fuck this!" and legging it Very Happy It wasn't even a horde, they just kept pouring in anyhow. I *think* it was designed that way, in order to force you to flee after helping a runner in distress.

Hehe yeh wanted to run, but they were blocking the room only had one window in my back and the horde thought it was fun to crawl that way in and block my only exit xD

Had your bug in the game as well Sabin, but for me it wasn't the NPC's running away it were the zombies running away. Was hilarious to see Should have recorded it but after five minutes I reloaded the game Smile

Know what you mean Moose, I am in no hurry at all. Having way too much fun with the exploring and randomness Smile

installed the game, launched it, in game it tells me to press dpad up. Pressed every key on my keyboard, nothing. Uninstalled. See ya in 6 months with proper keyboard support.

Seriously, port a game, but can't be arsed to at least map keys for the device used ? Glad i didn't buy this.


PS: this isn't saying the game is bad, because i have no fucking clue. But either you (i.e. the game) tells me "YOU HAVE TO USE A CONTROLLER" (and i won't touch it at all) OR you adapt the in-game help and tutorial for whatever input device is used (which for the vast majority of people who bought it on steam is probably the mouse and keyboard).

It's just lazy, what it is.

It's your own fault for not reading. It has clearly been stated, several times, and several more times on the Steam sales page itself; 360 controller is REQUIRED. Not recommended, not "please, this is more fun this way" but REQUIRED. They've been quite open about that fact, the game is a direct port from the 360 and the only keyboard commands are the CryEngine-native ones. Properly designed keyboard and mouse controls will come later. This has been known for months now - since the Early Access announcement back in July Wink

Aye, two notices on the Steam page itself, but this is only for Early Access. The developers stated they'll be creating proper m/k controls by the time it releases officially near the end of the year. Oh and supposedly they'll be putting out a fix for the janky mouse control sometime this week because while it "requires" a controller, the engine still has native keyboard and mouse input - they're just terrible, especially the mouse with its huge acceleration and lack of precision. It's easier to get headshots on the analogue sticks than the stuttering mouse Laughing

This just happened to me and somehow I survived even tho my weapon broke mid fight Very Happy If you are constantly swarmed by zombies look for Screamers, they are the ones that are calling in their buddies. They are very easy to kill, but for me they are also the most annoying "special" zombies.

Have something to reduce the stuttering (far from optimal...) push left trigger of controller to go in aiming mode and then aim with mouse (while still holding left trigger).

At least that way I can aim a bit better

No, look, I had in mind that you are supposed to play as all chars you've got. Ofc you should play for fun, but the game never was supposed to be played with just one OP character. Its doable to beat the game with just 1 person but its damn hard.

Anyway, I am on my 2nd playthrough and now I will try to make it with 4 survs in either Kirkman or Savini.
