At least it's not "we burned through the money, have to strip game fragments and shoot half our team" but "So yeah, it's not a village, it's a big-ass city now, we need more time" Wink

I wasn't poking fun or insulting Larian, just stating that this is pretty much has happened to every major KS so far. It seems their initial estimations for release date are always far too optimistic so it's probably better to vastly alter the "expected" release date on the KS pitch, add another six months on at least because if you beat it then that's great! However, one thing I do find both strange and hilarious is just how willing people are to forgive KS developers for delaying several months, whereas if it was Eidos, Activision, EA, etc, everyone would be up in arms and raging epically. Announce a WEEK delay on a PC game and people scream blue murder Very Happy

A week is much more antagonizing than some months Razz for that whole week you'll just sit and wait, thinking about that fucking game. If it's some months, it's forgotten pretty easily and you can chill out.

Ohh, and when you back some KS game you expect it to be done the next century, so when some delay happens it just doesn't surprise you Razz

Other than the real-time combat, it is possible to remake Sacred in the editor.

Swen explained it nicely: a supposedly simple thing like a day/night cycle brought in schedules which needed a ton of rescripting and forced them to remake Cyseal from a village into a city to accomodate all the sleeping npc's in a believable way.

I'm sure they all want to make the game as good as it can be, but try to be fairly realistic, so they set the release date to a game that achieves only the basic goal. Then the support blows everyone away, they have to add more features and need more time Wink

Or they screw up like Double Fine. I mean how many campaigns they already had to to fund a damn adventure game.

That's precisely my point! It happens all the time, they set a reasonable release date, get "blown away" by the support on the KS, suddenly that release date is untenable so it gets put back. That's okay! I'm not fighting that, I just think - for the sake of NOT announcing a delay - just set the initial release estimate later Smile

Not to mention the full game isn't even coming out now, only the first "half" and that has to earn money via Early Access so the rest of the game can be made "later" Neutral

Nah, not Larian, they won't. At worst they will pull some profit form Dragon Commander to finish it. I've been following company's internal life for a while, I know they will be sleeping in their office just do to it, haha. I knew that there will be delay for DOS from very beginning, it is obvious, but I at the same time know they will deliver the game in Feb/March for sure.

I take it I'm not the only one that's absolutely fascinated about how things are going at Larian? I love reading about all the things Swen posts about, hehe.

They're Flemish Belgians. We'd work ourselves to death before we admit defeat. Trust me, compared to Americans, we can do 5 times as much with the same budget because we don't sit around slurping coffee.

They went back to how Divine Divinity and Beyond Divinity worked so it's once again isometric view although this time in full 3D, unsure if the camera is free so you can zoom and such, maybe re-creating the third person view used in Divinity 2 is possible. Smile
(You could play Sacred 2 like that but the game was not at all designed for it so the thick draw distance fog and lack of sky made it pretty weird - I believe the same also goes for the first - of the newer - Neverwinter Nights game.)

Btw, for those who didn't watch update video in post #2325366: in December along with Alpha, they will ship fully functional Editor. The same editor they use to make the game. So technically, you can start to remake sacred or Divine Divinity on it. Or make an addon. Or full-fledged campaign.
