Very Happy Sad Crying or Very sad

Every once in a while my speakers start to output crackle sound... few clicks within the creative control panel and it sorts out the problem but I mean fuck them, can't they make proper drivers? The installation wizards look like those from 10 years ago and the whole process of installing is a huge ordeal. Mad

lol! had the same issue yesterday. the instalation screen look like one of those from the mid 90's Laughing

besides, i have the feeling that in previous years (10 years ago) the audio hardware came with some usefull programs and apps, like (i remember mediavision's progs, for the pro audio studio) ans alikes for the creative ones....

today they don't even come with a proper mixer Mad

the situation should be different for the top line creative cards from today, like the fatality or titanium,,, but i haven't see those drivers yet. Confused

Install the modded creative drivers (search google for Daniel_K creative drivers), they remove the crackling and are much better than Creative shit.

I had issues with the Asus range of cards with EAX. Stalker had missing sounds and UT3 crashed left, right and centre from what I can remember... I went over to an Auzentech Forte and although it's basically the same shite as Creative pumps out these days, it's never missed a heart beat.

After months of struggling with hard lock-ups once every while, I finally decided to try searching for alternative drivers for my X-Fi XtremeGamer Fatal1ty Pro. Quickly found the PAX modified ones.

http://www.hardwareheaven.com/pax-drivers/

Latest version for PCI cards: http://www.hardwareheaven.com/pax-download-pci-x-fi-series/223271-pax-master-pci-xfi-driver-suite-2013-v1-05-all-os-stable-drivers-default-tweakedition.html

Entire process seems to be so much simpler, easier, better comparing to what Creative offers.

You download only one package which already contains everything needed:
  • latest drivers
  • Audio Control Panel
  • AutoMode Switcher
  • Console Launcher
  • Software AutoUpdate*
  • THX Setup Console**
  • Volume Panel
  • ALchemy
No more fiddling around with obsolete DVD discs, or dowloading gazillion of separate packages.

*make sure the first thing you do is either to completely disable or uninstall this; causes more harm than good

** yup, fully functional setup console for Windows Vista/7/8, which installs and works without hassle

===================

Q: What is this THX setup console thingy?

A: It's the app that lets you achieve better results with multichannel surround speakers by adjusting various settings:

Creative did everything they could to not distribute this for customers migrating to Windows 7/8. The older version was also prevented to install on more recent OS'es. So you were either left with nothing or had to use some tricks to make it work. Now with PAX, the latest fully working version is there in the wild available for you.

===================

Q: Is the sound quality any better now thanks to new drivers?

A: Laughing No.

===================

Q: Is the way this package installs similar to what ASUS does with their Xonar series. (nVidia with GeForce, AMD with Radeos, etc...)

A: Yes, everything is in one package. You just click setup.exe -> then "Next", "Next", "Next" -> 'Finish' -> reboot.

Of course, Creative MediaSource and WaveStudio still have to be downloaded separately from Creative's support site. Should you ever want to use one.

Funnily enough, even Creative offers a single package now with everything included for their latest SoundBlaster Z series. Laughing Took them a while. Still better late than never, I guess.

===================

Q: Have you experienced any crashes, lock-ups thus far.

A: Luckily, no. Keeping my fingers crossed so it stays that way until I buy an ASUS and jump onto another minefield. Cool Face

===================

Q: Why did you buy that sound card, so full of worthless features, in the first place, anyway? Laughing Facepalm

A: At my young age I was fooled into thinking that EAX 5.0 + OpenAL was the next big thing in gaming. Don't laugh at me please. Crying or Very sad

==================

Q: But EAX 5.0 was great!

A: In that 3 games that supported it.

=================

Q: You realise you're talking to yourself.

A: Yeah, I know. Gonna quit now.

Pfft.. still nothing for the Creative Arena USB headset, I gave up on ever seeing PAX drivers for this thing (which really is a fucking PITA to install on Win7-x64), it's been over 2 years since Arena support was requested but still nothing Sad

I must be the only person in the world with zero issues with them, X-Fi Titanium Laughing

Install Windows -> Download software -> Install -> Let auto update run and untick all the useless crap (Media, MIDI, etc) -> Done.

I've not had any issues installing, getting sound to work (supported natively by Win7 anyway, I only install the software to get all the extra options), crackling or as some even report, BSODs. And my Titanium is fuckknowshowold now.

This is basically a non-issue for most people these days though. EAX has been dead for a while, and in *most* games enabling the 'GX' function in the Xonar control panel will emulate EAX just fine anyways.

@KillerCrocker How's your new Xonar doing comparing to the onboard? Is the sound better?

@Shoshomiga I hope these drivers fix your problems. For me they did. (Still keeping my fingers crossed.)

@Werelds @Mister_s Must be something with your rigs, guys. Cool Face

On a serious side of things, my X-Fi had been running flawlessly for many years. Problems started somewhere after upgrading my motherboard. Hard system lock-ups with loud looping sound. And by hard I mean hard - even Ctrl + Alt + Delete didn't wanna work.

I trying everything and didn't know what to do. Crying or Very sad Luckily, I have found these. So far so good.

Besides, we'll see how much love from Creative we'll receive when SteamOS comes out. (Creative have already dropped support for older X-Fi's. Laughing)

I hate any sound card from Creative and I owned couple of them. Drivers are really so fucking shitty that it's really not worth buying it.

Right now, I'm using HT Omega Claro and it works pretty good.

@Raccoon

It actually sounds about the same or maybe a bit more "accurate?" but it is better shielded than onboard.
Also it allow for eax to be turned on in older games
it have dolby headphone (for those who like that stuff)

For me, most important function is headphone amplifier and front jack being detected, when I plug in headphones

weird. had that sound card since release. its still in my haswell rig. 0 issues ever. Fantastic product.

Using Daniel_K latest x-fi pack, but i've used vanilla drivers in the past without issues.

As for those PAX drivers, according to Daniel_K, pretty much the main modder for crative drivers, PAX is placebo. All the guy apparently does is add some lines to a cfg file that never gets called up Very Happy

Not sure what is true, but Daniel K is reputable so i am bound to believe him sooner.
