it'll be $24.99 here in the US. That's my guess.

And they can suck it. I'll stick with my original version with the widescreen and other mods.

I hope they don't give these fuckers BG3.

A bit pricey, but I like what they did with the fist one and it's making bg3 a possibility, so it's definitely a buy for me.

They didn't do shit to the first one but add a couple of new characters to a game that didn't need them. Oh and they added a shitload of bugs. Smile

They will ruin BG3 if it's given to them.

Nothing can be ruined if it's not made. It's not like they are stealing BG3 idea from some other more deserving developer.

As for the bugs. I played it on release and haven't encountered a single one. Theirs patch lists do look menacing, but people are forgetting that most of the fixes are still from the original game.

They implement a shity bugy new journal system and a shitload of new bugs in their slightly improved version of the game that has almost nothing that wasn't implemented before by the mods.
And 1 year after they put it out, it's stil loaded with bugs. And we talk about a game that is 15 years old.
If they want more money, they have to fix the first one and to do a better job with the second B.G.

BG3 should follow its predecessors, and should be made by a developer who respects RPGs and who has the skillset to make one. Not to talk about experience. Unfortunately, Beamdog has neither so you are going on a bet here with chances are that the game would be bad. And would only spoil the perfect franchise. Game such as this must be made with true passion, something that dev like Beamdog who are a bunch of capitalistic pigs quite lack.

It is better for all if BG3 rests until someone worthy will come.

I'm not sure what you are talking about. Journal is ten times better than the original.

No it's not better. It's the same thing if Beamdog makes it or anyone else. They're not making BG3 anyway. EA is sitting on that licence. They would be making one of those 'spirital successors'. Anyone can make one of those. Beamdog is just one of the developers that can make a 2d, top down, party based rpg. One more can't hurt, no matter how it turns out. I dislike Shadowcast. I think it's quite appalling even. But it was made, some people liked it, it sold well, and in that aspect I respect it a lot.

EA don't have anything to do with the BG licence. It belongs to WoTC. Any future games would have to be approved by them.

Actually, I think it's a bit more complicated than that. Baldur's Gate franchise belongs to Atari, who even tried to fool with it somewhat, but the project was scrapped (just like BG3: Black Hound by Black Isle Studios/Interplay before it). But, D&D rights belong to WotC, so to make a new BG game Overhaul would probably need to acquire both licences.

Mmm... It's a pity that they're trying to broaden the BG brand in order to raise awareness and finances. I'm sure it would have been a damn sight easier to have just started over, and created a game based on the D&D 3.5 OGL, like the Pathfinder system.

Yeah. At this point, after Throne of Bhaal, Baldur's Gate is just a name. The Bhaalspawn saga recieved an ending. Any BG game after it will have to tell a different story, so it could just as well carry a different name. Still, marketing and advertising dictate a different set of rules Smile I wish Overhaul well, I actually liked the quality (if not the quantity) of their added content in BG:EE. They may have the skill set necesarry to create a good, full-fledged RPG game.

No, Atari only retained the publishing rights to BG1/2, which is why the EE on Steam was through Atari. Post the court case over the D&D rights, any new game using D&D, BG or otherwise, would need to be negotiated directly with WoTC. It's why Fargo went with a new setting for Torment, as the rights to Planescape had reverted to WoTC and they weren't interested in a new game in that setting (it effectively being on semi-permanent hiatus).

There was never any issue with making a new BG game. It's just that no publisher was interested in funding it. If you had 50-100mil to develop a new BG and were willing to go with 4E/5E, I don't think WoTC would have any problem selling you a licence.

The 'remake' looks..okay I guess:

Nothing new under the sun of course, but seems more polished than the first messy one. Razz The price is insanely high, I'll wait for the next big sales (66+% off) to enlarge my Steam penis , perhaps using Gaben's cards.

Version 1.2 is out, lots of changes.

It's uploaded to Steam, but it depends on Atari when it gets updated there. Beamdog version already is.

The updated BGEE looks nothing like the BG2EE in the preview shots.
Way they didn't implement this look and in the first part?
I think there is something rotten in there.

Wasn't the source assets lost for Baldurs Gate 1? Thus they couldn't really do as much as they wanted since it meant everything would have had to be recreated from the beginning again?
(Plus time and budget constraints too I suppose.)

The 3D art assests is lost for both games, but for BG2 they at least found the final renders of the environments. They aren't "HD" but better than what we had before..

Patch is live on Steam. Just finished downloading a 600mb update. Smile

Lol fuck the first BG, I have a question about BG2. Have they merged the main game and the expansion ? Or do you start the expansion importing your savegame ?

New screenshots + comparison with original BG2.

Looks really nice, especially the Spellhold one.

I wasn't expecting the graphical improvements to be as noticeable - in addition to the increased fidelity, did you guys sneak in some contrast/saturation tweaks? Looks great!

We have the original, uncompressed renders from Baldur's Gate 2. The colors are much more rich in them versus what shipped in the original game.

They can't convince me with this material.
I have to see it to judge if it is worthy,
Anyway, with 25$ it's overpriced.

I hope this launches in better shape than BG1. It's too expensive to buy until sale especially since I already bought BG2 for $50 back in the day
