I guess that is a combination of Obsidian's experience and the fact that they're using 2D backgrounds which are easier to make look good than full 3D in the case of Wasteland 2.

InXile will be using the same 2D method for Torment, and the screens they released of that game look about on par with PE.

As I said, I'll take a good looking 2D game over a bad looking 3D one any day of the week. It helps that I'm a sucker for sprites though Very Happy

+1 so many games simply dont need a single polygon to have the same gameplay

Game play looks nice but i agree that the GFX is lacking.

Mostly i think its the blend textures that i really don't like, feels like there is a filter with blur on top of it all. Cant be to hard to fix that?

I think this will be a good game tho but from what i have seen so far i think PE is gonna be the better of the two, maybe even with a relative big margin.

Judging by the demo the game feel something like 65-75% done, and it will be out in 2 months? Looks like they could use 4-6 month more to me.

Of course it's not coming out in october. That date was the original date when the kickstarter was created. They've already said beta in october but haven't announced a release date yet. As far as completion, they've already stated the game is 60-70% done and is feature complete and the rest is mostly polish.

The game looks incredible atmospheric and awesome. One thing that I did notice, was the Psychic AI that knew where everyone was. I hope they can fix that, as it would ruin the whole fun.

Finally got around watching the video, that looked great if you ask me! *gusta*, I can hardly wait to play it. The visuals are basic and surprisingly rough (probably still wip, the resolution also appears to be low with no AA/AF involved), same for the animations that are kinda out of sync, but I really don't care after all. Hopefully the rest will make up for everything as usual. Razz

There are some aspects about the UI that I dislike though, like the listed yellowish inventory nuFallout-style and the AP counter.. but hopefully they'll fix/adjust these as well as the few AI issues.

Textures could be sharper, quite a bit so, to be honest, but the rest seems perfectly fine to me. A nicely done, high-resolution 2d would probably look better (it already does in Eternity), but both approaches have their merits.

Also, the game's NOT coming out in two months. It's been known for a while now: http://www.rockpapershotgun.com/2013/07/20/times-a-wasteland-wasteland-2-delayed/

As long as they can avoid real eye sores (like animations that are so terrible they jump out at you), I don't mind a little roughness. It's when it ventures into "amateur hour" that it will become worrying.

That's the problem most indie games have - they tend to screw up one or two elements massively (usually voices) which completely breaks immersion. I rather have an absence of voices than hearing badly recorded gibberish.

It's not coming this year, I'm pretty certain of that. They'll hold the beta (again only for those that paid in the higher tiers, yippee, I guess I have pirate it then like Grim Dawn) in October and then announce a Q1-2014 release date at the earliest Sad

Yeah, I'm pretty sure it'll come next year too. Esspecially since they don't really need to squeeze it into x-mass season (may even prefer not to). Still, in this case I can wait. I'm really liking the game so far and if they need more time, then so be it.

Update #35: We’re Still Listening

Quote:
Good day to you, Rangers,

It’s Chris again to talk some Wasteland 2. We received a lot of feedback from the demo video of the Prison with many strong and important opinions that continue to help us craft Wasteland 2.

What part of the update are you referring to, the stances? If animations are too much of a problem for them they could at least do something like put icons above character heads (a shield icon for defensive stance, for example).

Very doubtful. Beta is supposedly coming in October then I guess we'll see this sometime in Q1-2014.

To be honest, I expect that every KS funded game that got a lot more money than initially requested will be delayed by at least 4-5 months. The same fate still awaits Project Eternity and Numeria. Mark my words.

I think it was Tim Schafer who said this: (i'm paraphrasing)

"games are rarely on time or on budget and the ones that usually aren't very good"

My point is that i'll rather wait another 4-6 months and get a better game than get something rushed on time.

Yep, stances and transition from hexes to squares.

We won’t be putting the full game into beta to prevent spoilers that would become widely known before Wasteland 2 is finished

Yeah, right, spoilers. More like they won't be putting the full game into beta because they don't want pirates to get it months before final release Laughing

Early betas for such complex games are a strange beast, but curiosity will probably win me over as usual, if only for one hour or so..just the time needed to take a brief look at the combat, interface and dialogue system. Razz Then the wait will continue.
