just one question, i downloaded ninja gaiden black, and i saw the same thing as ninja gaiden, is it an expansion pack with new levels or the same game with xtras?

OMG gmax2k4... did you actually bother to read this thread??? It's not a sequel and no one belives it to be either...

Think of it as more like a directors cut of the game Smile

Like Lord of the rings and then you got lord of the rings EXT

No it doesn't suck, most people who hates ninja gaiden can't face the challenges... Im old school I hate kid games like 70% of today gaming world are way TOO EASY.

Do what you want.. but this game is awesome, as it was back in 04 Smile

cheers gp! Razz

Tryed this out a little tonight and liked what they've done with it, its maybe just my imagination but everything seemed alot tighter. Graphics seemed crisper, subtle differences in the makeup of the levels and costumes plus I don't remember hearing voiceovers when you collected the scrolls in the original. The camera also seems to snap to the player alot better.

Seemed a little easier just playing on default settings although that could just be that im used to the first few sets of bad guys having played through the first game. I honestly fealt like I was toying with the ninjas at times which was never the feeling I had with the first game. Very Happy

I kept reading in reviews that this was MORE than just a cash-in by the developers. But, after having played through most of it.. I disagree. If you've finished the first one, I see NO real reason to -purchase- this. If you haven't played it already.. then, this would be a nice buy.

Not a terrific release... and, based on the fact that 99% of this game has already been released before.. I feel that the ratings should be lower for Ninja Gaiden Black. I know that I'd be feeling a bit ripped off if I had purchased the game after having shelled out 60 bux for the original.

O well.. whatever.

@ dreamweb

the harder modes have more/various enemies thrown at you than before, new suits, some new weapons, items, 50 missions, both hurricane packs, ninja dog etc. i think thats more than just 1%.

imho this is the definite version to get if you are into gaiden. i only completed ng on normal before and going on hard now. its even better than i remembered. and it probably is. the bossfights are crazy.

but if i owned the original game + both hurricane packs i would have 2nd thoughts before buying black. on the other hand 30 bucks is not that much. and you do get those 50 missions.

hehe, Im just working my way through it again im up to level 12 but my ninja style hasn't been pretty (I've still not been given a ninja dog rating though so thats something). Im not cheating or anything but im using that many elixirs particuarly on some of the bosses that it feels like it. Smile

Yeah I noticed some small changes in the arrangement for the normal version so like GP decided to give it a run through again.

I know what you mean about after the Monastery I had enough problems with Alma, what I do is this Nailbiter:-

pick a room/area on the level that your on using the following criteria.......

1. the room/area must have enemies which respawn when you revisit the area
2. you must be able to depatch the enemies easily without taking too much damage yourself/preferably without taking any damage at all and using charged attacks to multiply the amount of essence gained from defeating enemies
3. As a bonus If the room is close to one of those stone figurines that you buy stuff from then all the better.

Using the above method of revisiting the same area, repeatedly defeating enemies and gathering essence you can upgrade every weapon in your inventory and fill up your potions until the point where things start to get a little easier. I'd say a fully powered Lunar or Dragon Sword is best for doing this with the Lunar its obviously easier to get 50+ combos, Dragon Sword this technique is easy if you use Flying Swallow alot.

I wish I was skillful enough to play the game without using alot of potions but in fairness its a challenging game. Smile

aha, a red costume. i missed the b in ngb. Smile

i also exploited the respawn thing, but in hard one can only upgrade 1 star each weapon.

i think i replay on normal instead, like you guys did/do. i said wrong before, im at monastary now and i get my ass handed on a plate by a fiend looking/behaving like myself. haha well obviously hes better than me. when hes starting to go down on evergy he starts using fire magic alot and i die.

i do have 4x small health potion + one saved talisman, but no way i can use all of those now. i doubt hes even considered a boss.

does it unlock mission mode playing on normal btw, or is that only from hard up?

Damn that guys good, doesn't use any potions even when his health is practically down to zero. The guy doesn't even use his ninpo when he gets the guy on the ground presuambly because he wants the points bonus. Shocked

No offense or anything friend, but flying swallow is a noob thing.. and on hard it's almost gone (devs improved the AI) Smile

Oh and about essence also known as "farming" I only use the dragon sword. But it's wortless in terms of farming. What you need is

A Ghost fishes (incredible high essence, and tons of fishes)

B And use viggorian flail (best weapon for farming)

There's no need to do farming until you meet the fishes... yeah ng sure is hard.. but it's rewarded if you got the skils. Remember the dragon sword has free combo's , meaning most of them won't be visible in the command list.

Haha, none taken. I know its classed as a noob thing I just use it every now and then when things get hectic plus part of the purpose of me using the move was to despatch enemies quickly and easily and you can't get quicker and easier than pushing your stick towards them and pressing Y. I'd go as far as to say that its something I've only started doing since NGB as well just through a combined lack of patience/practice. Its a move in the game though so why not. Very Happy

Thanks for the tips on "farming" I think after I complete the game again im gonna call it a day, I don't have the patience to replay it a second successive time and im not sure im good enough anyway plus there are several other titles due that are probably gonna consume my time. Smile

Yeah, I have no problems admitting that the game is extremely difficult in places and that was me only playing on normal. Laughing

Im getting back to form however managed to string together several 100+ combos on my way to completing the game also gave Doku and some of the subbosses that I used to have problems with a severe thrashing - feats which I once wouldn't have thought myself possible of achieving.

As GP hinted at there are guys out there that play this non stop and there only happy when there beating the bosses in a certain way preferably without taking damage, for me I don't take it too seriously its just a way to while away a couple of hours I was happy enough to complete the game (again) by any means because in my opinion it isn't the sort of game that you can put in front of your average gamer and have them speed run their way through it.

As for the game, the more I play it the more I think I could look back in 10 years time and happily refer to it as a "classic" of its time. Just everythiing about it the unlockables, secrets, weapons, costumes, cut scenes, boss fights and the sheer depth of the game are something which is missing from the majority of games nowadays. so very true.

its a quality title for sure.

the world in itself and how places are combined is amazing.

the different fighting styles to what weapon and yeah, i can go on forever...

Run towards the water and the moment you hit the waters surface start pounding the jump button repeatedly whilst still moving the stick in the direction you want to go Wink

sigh it feels iam going to have to accept the noobstamp on this one...

So iam new to the consolearea, regarding modding and shit, the only reason i decided to mod my xbox is that ninja gaiden black doesnt seem to come to europe. Anyways, my main question is whats all this about :

DvD 5
DvD 9
duallayer dvds

the version ive aquired is : Ninja_Gaiden_Black_DVD5_XBOX-GeNiuS

If this is a rip of some sort ( which someone stated that is was = no doa4 trailer ) what does the word " relinked " mean? Are all modded xboxs' able to read DVD9 ? Will the quality of the game be worse if i chose the DvD5 version instead of the DVD9 ? whoamg all these questions Razz

My humble apologies for all the idiotic questions

thank you in advance

DVD5, DVD9 and Dual Layer refer to different types of DVD Media, the basic difference in them being how much they can store on the discs.

The "genius" version is a rip but all thats been ripped is the Dead or Alive 4 trailer as you said. Relinking is a process that can be done when creating an ISO using a program like Quix or Craxtion, it basically relinks references to identical files and deletes the copies in essence downsizing the size of the ISO without losing any needed content. In this they relinked the Jap movies meaning that if you play the game with the Japanese language selected instead of playing the Jap movies I believe it will relink to the US movies, don't take my word on that though I only played the game with US selected as region.

Yes modded Xboxs can read DVD9 as the original Ninja Gaiden was on a DVD9 and as for will it affect the quality of the game depends purely on the rip. Jade Empire DVD5 is a good example of the differences between some DVD5 rips and the original DVD9. A few versions of that were released some were missing videos which were integral to understanding the story and on the best DVD5 release of that game the videos were downsampled in quality. Not enough to ruin the release but you get the general idea.

As for the Ninja Gaiden Black release its close to perfect Smile
