I'm only interested in what will happen with the main story, Juno killing Desmond and all...

The same reason so many get hyped for CoD. Mainstream gonna mainstream.

I hate all Ass Creed games. I couldn't stand more than 1-2 hours in AC1 and 2. But I am really excited about this one simply because I love the pirate setting. I can't wait to play it.

Do I really need to compare a 4-5 hour linear corridor shooter game with a game with a vast open world with lots of side activities and a 20+++ h main story?

If you think the COD crowd is even remotely interested in AC you're dead wrong.

I wasn't suggesting that people that play CoD are the same people that play AC (although I am sure there is some degree of crossover). What I was suggesting was that there are more general themes that give CoD mass appeal that similarly apply to AC. It has nothing to do with their individual mechanics. Indeed, a lot of it resides outside the games themselves, in marketing.

Oh, I misunderstood your post then. Smile

Yeah, I guess you're right about it in that sense, though I still very much enjoyed each AC. Smile

That was pretty much my point. Virtually everyone can find something in the AC games to enjoy - that's what gives them mainstream appeal.

I myself greatly enjoyed AC1, but progressively less so the sequels. The production-line manner in which the series is now churned out annually doesn't give me much hope that 4 will be an improvement over prior instalments, but we'll see in due course I guess.

My personal take on the AC series is that its games always have at least one thing that makes you want to play it. And most of the time you get a very satisfying experience with it. But, they don't have that other "something" that would make them deserving of a spot in your top 5 games of the year.

Personally, the only reason why I'm looking forward to this Assassin's Creed game is that it doesn't look like an Assassin's Creed game. Very Happy

Persevering with the same formula would have killed all my interest, after the 3rd game I thought it was getting incredibly stale in my opinion, so I for one am glad they decided to do something different for once. That and free aiming will be enough for my pirate needs.

Oh! that sounds a bit odd to me Very Happy In fact I'm positive this will be very similar to the previous games (though probably more similar to AC3), no matter what costume you put on it. I'll still want to play it for the things I mentioned, but like usual, I won't really expect that much from it. Moderate expectations are the healthy approach here

Of course, as with every other game, we'll just have to wait and see Smile

Its going to be and feel exactly like the previous AC iterations, well told story embedded in a very mechanistic and grindy open world setting.

I'm already seeing myself getting tired after 20 hours of the same jungles, rocks, beaches, palmtrees, ocean - finding the treasure #196, blowing up the 14th fort and hunting for shark #16 to get the final pouch upgrade. Still looking forward to it though Razz

Haha that sounds very likely, and I fear that you might be damn right guys. Razz

I don't know, perhaps it's the open caribbean setting or the fact that there seem to be multiple approaches without the usual restrictive "fake" linearity, but strangely I'm more interested than usual this time. The boringness factor obviously will be this game's #1 enemy, that's for sure, but as a non-completionist, I can somewhat contain that problem.

Maybe I need to watch more of those gameplay trailers, I must have missed the ones showing the multiple approaches objectives you speak of. That would certainly make me more excited about the game, and would be a great addition Smile

Sadly the game isn't currently on my buy list. I had to make space for other more promising games in my budget.

The way I see it, every life is a pile of good things and bad things. The good things don’t always soften the bad things, but vice versa, the bad things don’t always spoil the good things and make them unimportant.
