Lone Ranger - 7/10. Much better than expected. DId not mind the 2.20 hours of run time as there was good plot, great acting, and nice visuals. Surprised this flick did not do well. I liked it. Depp was funny and great on his lines.

FINALLY got around to watching the imaginarium of doctor parnassus...
What a strange film... 6/10
Found plenty to laugh and smile at, but it didn't quite grab me and pull me in like id hoped. Still a pretty decent film though.
Detective dee... Another film I've had languishing on my "shitloads of movies to get through" folder for ages... and this one was FUN! Loved it, was wacky and enjoyable film... apart from the batshit wtf crazy cave scene, lol... But the rest was a pretty enjoyable action mystery whodunit
7/10 for that one... And no sequel? With that ending? Fuck off!!

Gravity - 9/10
This was quite amazing. I've seen so many sci-fi movies but this one made me want to be up there looking down on Earth sooooooooooo bad. It's not about FTL travel and lasers and aliens and so on; it's about what it's like to be in space, and it seems to do that fairly well, with gorgeous imagery, the silence, and what seems to be solid acting from Bullock and Clooney.
I would've loved to see this in IMAX.
With that said it's not without its issues...
Spoiler: | The satellite explosion causing a chain reaction destroying more satellites and the debris circling around THREE times hitting the shuttle, the ISS, and the Chinese space station (tho I can't remember if the Chinese thing was hit by the debris or if it was just losing altitude until it entered the atmosphere and broke apart)? Are you fucking kidding me? Not to mention all 3 of those being conveniently close to each other.
There are other annoyances, like Clooney catching up to Bullock after she is off drifting in the distance somewhere...and he sees her cause she is flashing her flashlight ROFL come on.
Probably some other things I'm forgetting, but yeah...still a great experience overall, if you don't let the conveniences thrown in there to suit the plot insult you too much. If you do then, how do you ever manage seeing any movie? |

The Conjuring - 4/10
Non-original and non-scary, some of the grades are baffling.

Europa Report - 8/10
Well worth watching if you're looking for a sci-fi "docu-thriller" involving the captivating (and highly dangerous) outer space.
It's a low budget movie but the acting is decent, as well as the editing, just don't expect complex writing or mind-blowing special effects. It's a well-packed flick which tries to be believable and I'd say it succeeds in its goal.

Nah I disagree the editing was decent on that film...
Was an ok film, but the editing was a shocker, and really let it down.

I think it was done on purpose (well, sort of), with all those amateurish 'cheap camera' effects and chromatic aberrations -literally. I found the result kinda fitting but yeah, I fully understand your complaints (I too would have directed some scenes differently and used better angles for example)

The movie lives from Guillermos signature art style, attention to detail and overdrawn characters, the anime references and of course the pretty well done impression of oversized robots vs aliens on the big screen.
The story works with the classic clichés in such a way it had me laughing the whole time.
"Enlightenment is man's emergence from his self-imposed nonage. Nonage is the inability to use one's own understanding without another's guidance. This nonage is self-imposed if its cause lies not in lack of understanding but in indecision and lack of courage to use one's own mind without another's guidance. Dare to know! (Sapere aude.) "Have the courage to use your own understanding," is therefore the motto of the enlightenment."

this is pretty much my experience with the film, with the same rating
i really enjoyed a scifi movie that did not go for fast paced action and instead took it slow, getting the space atmosphere in
it can't have been easy to make that work in editing

The Conjuring 4/10
Pro christian shit movie. Well, apart from the pro christian shit the movie was OK. It said in the beginning that it was based on a true story and i can't do anything but laugh. Witchcraft, demons and only the church has the power to do anything about it. Well, all this was alright, but the text at the end where they more or less try to make you believe in god just annoyed me. Fucking Americans.

I dunno, I like del Toro movies, but this one was just so bland. The emotions looked fake somehow. The cgi is great, far from that, but overall I wasn't amused by the movie...

What emotions?
I thought most characters were bored and boring. Elba and Perlman were the only ones that even tried.

Gravity 9/10
I acknowledge the greatness of the film, but my experience was ruined a bit because I was at least a row too close, my nose is way too big for the standard sized 3d glasses which made the experience uncomfortable, I had to grab popcorn from my friend next to me for the first half which hindered me a bit. Everyone hyped bullock so much that I was left disappointed. It was just a good performance not oscar-great. 3d made it all dark, but maybe it was meant that way. Prisoners affected me more, but even just for the visuals this movie rocked.
