Reading the AoD forum is almost as fun as playing the game.
Dev want the game to be hard, and it is. But after this short demo my warrior is already a complete powerhouse - so the hero aspect is delayed for an hour or two? I wonder and fear how the rest of the game will be then...Will we battle monsters etc? Anyone know?
There are two kinds of people I can't stand in this world. People who are intolerant of other people's cultures, and the Dutch.
Don't think so. It's supposed to be a gritty low-fantasy, no-nonsense setting.
Hmm that could become a problem, where a hard game suddenly is a way easy one or where every battle is against half an army.
I wont go the non combat text route from what ive seen so far.
Ooooh... a public beta/demo after how many years in development? Frankly you can colour me unimpressed. At this point I'm not sure which is coming out first; Black Mesa or Age of Sloth....uhhh... Decadence
the demo was pretty lame tbh. Most of the time you teleport from one dialogue screen to another, with the occasional combat here and there. There's little gameplay outside of that.
2013. We’re probably a year away. You can judge the progress by the demo – it has all the features except for Alchemy. All the areas are done and some were shown before, but as you know, we prefer to take our time and do it right. Or at least what we consider to be ‘right’.
An old one at that. Damn shame, thought something new was released. They changed quite a bit ( 1-10 skill system insted of 1-100 for example), wanted to see it.
- The testing goes well and so far we’re on schedule for the mid-October release. Naturally, there’s still work to be done and issues to resolve, but all the major problems have been fixed. Still, we want to be sure, so if you want to lend to hand and test the upcoming release, please report to the nearest recruiting station.
So it's not the full game being released in October but the Early Access.

We won't release the full game on October, but we are aiming to get you an Early Access build with around 70% of the game (Teron plus Maadoran)
oh i dont mind the idea of Early acces but its not for me and I will wait for full thing anyway - dont have that much time to spend on unfinished and unpolished thing and to report bugs anymore
“Welcome to the Age of Decadence Early Access launch!
We’re proud to offer you the first two chapters (roughly 60% of the game) and send you on an exciting (hopefully) and one of a kind adventure.
The first two chapters have all the features of the full game and give you:
- 10 locations: two towns where all the scheming, plotting, and back-stabbing take place, raiders’ camps, an ancient tomb, a tower of the Magi in a ruined city, the Abyss, which claimed many lives, a mountain pass protecting the southern towns from the barbarians of the wastes, and more.
- Over 100 hand-crafted fights (no filler combat), 130 if you count all variations
- Over 70 quests with multiple solutions, choices, and consequences
- over 100 characters you can talk to
- Over 350,000 words of dialogue (that would be a 1,300-page book)
- 6 mutually-exclusive questlines
- 40 different weapons, 15 different armor sets, dozens of other items (alchemical reagents, crafting components, artefacts, scrolls, throwing nets, etc)
- A lot of death screens
It’s a challenging (no, really), turn-based game with a lot of text. Its design is influenced by RPGs your grandpa used to play, where dying a lot was half the fun and the only way to learn. If you aren’t sure if this game is for you, try the demo first at www.irontowerstudio.com.
Keep in mind that even though the content is done, we’re committed to quality and will continue improving balance, optimization, and quests (based on your feedback).
We need 4-5 months to finish the third and final chapter of the game (we’re planning to start the beta test in April 2014) and your support and suggestions will help us deliver a quality RPG. Should you have any questions or suggestions, please visit our forums at http://www.irontowerstudio.com/forum”
...... public, sorry to get your hopes up, but you've got a less than 1% chance to win. Still, that's 1% more than you had before this I'm shocked this hasn't yet "hit" the net though.
We finally released the first two chapters on Steam’s Early Access, which is a major milestone. If you missed the news, the Early Access release gives you 10 locations, which represents about 60% of the game. Three more locations will be added after the New Year, and the remaining seven end-game locations will be released in the summer (we’re planning to start the final beta-test in April-May 2014).
So far, we sold 3,332 copies on Steam and 1,929 copies via our own site and GamersGate, generating $141,780. As always, we want to thank you for your support, patronage, and most importantly, for your faith in our ability to make a game worth playing.
To-date 6,107 people downloaded the demo on Steam; 417 bought the Early Access version after, i.e. 6.8% conversion rate, which, apparently, is pretty good (the industry standards are 1-5% for non-casual games), which means that we need to get the demo in front of more people.
