Also, if anyone knows how to disable all the annoying shit like "YOU WERE PROMOTED, CONGRATULATIONS RETARD!!!" would be ace as well cause those are annoying and clutter the screen.

It'll be my i5-760 @ 4.2 + 680 versus Aeon's i5-2500K @ ?.? + 680. We'll need to sort of get our clocks in sync on the GPU. Not sure if Aeon's overclocked his 2500K, if he has he's got an advantage there.

Either way, I personally did not see even one FPS increase by upgrading to Windows 8. I'm still pretty sure that it's for 6-8 core CPUs where it matters due to how Windows 8 deals with the cores.

So, Aeon has his 2500K running at 4.2 just like I do. We both have 8GB of RAM; I assume Aeon's is DDR3-1600 just like mine. I clocked my 680 to match his. We both had everything set to ultra, 4xMSAA, no PPAA, HBAO.

End result? Aeon getting more FPS than me. He's on Windows 7, I'm on Windows 8.1. Myth busted. Even with my slightly inferior CPU, the difference shown by those benchmarks should still put me ahead. And it doesn't. So for anyone worried about having to upgrade to 8: don't do it if you're on a quad core. Maybe for 6-/8-core CPUs it makes a difference and maybe even for i7's, but it is definitely NOT an all-round magical performance booster.

True.

Everyone should upgrade for the added benefit of using modern apps instead of tired old Win32 apps which no one wants to use, in archaic paradigms such as multiple windows at the same time.

Thanks for the prompt reply.

I have a question or 2 regarding SSD:

Do you install all the games you want to load fast only on the ssd partition?

Or do you also install your OS on the same ssd partition?

Thanks

You install your OS and any game you want to work fast on the SSD disk.

Thanks!

God damn this constant sound looping/crashing is getting annoying

This game is not even worth $30 (srs)

In its current state this game doesn't seem finished.

Its riddled with bugs, inconsistent hit reg, horrible net code...lag...rubber banding etc etc

and not to mention the constant crash to desktop game stopping bugs, such horrible ctd's that they lock up my system. where I have to wait minutes to be able to close BF4 in the task manager

The single player is hardly anything to write about, the mp maps feel rushed , unbalanced as usual and broken.

I even regret buying this from the mexican store, complete waste of money and time.

whatsoever happened to maps like Fushe Pass and Operation clean sweep from BF2

The map sizes in BF4 are a fucking joke compared to this...

By the way...
Anyone notice that the "half-way reload" weapon feature isn't in the game? Surprised

Several times where I started a reload after firing half a mag and then switched back and it redid the whole animation. I thought that was supposed to be one of the features that was in the game, what happened to it? o.O

Hmm??

Not sure what you mean.

If you empty a whole mag (include the cartridge in the chamber) you will cycle the bolt and reload a fresh mag. Emptying a mag while still not empty, will only eject the old one a slam a new one in, no bolt animation.

@zibz You nailed it man. The largest (and only map worthy of Battlefield) in BF4 is Operation Parcel. The rest are the size of a fucking postage stamp by comparison to BF2 / 2142. You literally fly for 5 seconds in the slowest air vehicle (scout choppers) and you are within the enemy main spawn. It's fucking shameful.

Man, what I'd give to have REAL Battlefield maps back again. Shame those new consoles aren't next gen enough for it!

I agree the map size is disappointing so far, but, most of the maps work pretty well and are well designed (there's 2 or 3 exceptions like the awful "Rogue Transmission" and the one with the Dam). The gameplay is also very good and a very noticeable improvement over BF3. I can't say yet this game tops BF2142, that's a very hard thing to accomplish, but I know we will see some even bigger maps in the expansions, of that I have no doubt.

Well, for me and my setup the myth became a clear reality, what can I tell you? Very Happy I'm on a weaker and older CPU than you guys so that makes sense to me.

SSD is the way to go, even on BF3 already. Worth the price when every map load is like third the time.

Anyways, there was an issue iin the Beta that made the loading times looooooooong, like 5mins on HDD. Then they fixed it and it dropped to like 3min for me. So I'm guessing same bug is stil on retail code and it will get better. But if there is one game you install on SSD it's Battlefield.

Oh and last thing, OS+ BF4 won't (eventually) fit on 60GB SSD, so get 120GB or more Smile

I think he means the staged reload, where once you switch weapons mid-reload, it would continue to reload from where you left it when you switch back, instead of starting from the very beginning again.
This was present in the beta, but I haven't paid attention in the full game. I think I saw it happen, but I am not sure Smile

You can see the entire config file in the file PROFSAVE_profile in the "C:\Users\USERNAME\Documents\Battlefield 4\settings"

It's not encrypted or anything so a simple edit with notepad works. Smile

Unfortunately short of setting the HUD scale to zero in the config or hiding it with the UI. related console command I don't think you can disable anything individually.
(And that also hides other useful information plus some additional things like the subtitles.)

I installed os but also a lot of program filesand now it's full. I did once install bf3 on it but when the maps came out it took to much space. I only have a 120gb and the disks are very expensive, however they become cheaper lately

Yes, that's what I meant. ^_^

I've tried it a couple of times but I couldn't get it to work. It was either completely done (as in a full reload) or nothing happend. Sad
