So, Aeon has his 2500K running at 4.2 just like I do. We both have 8GB of RAM; I assume Aeon's is DDR3-1600 just like mine. I clocked my 680 to match his. We both had everything set to ultra, 4xMSAA, no PPAA, HBAO.
End result? Aeon getting more FPS than me. He's on Windows 7, I'm on Windows 8.1. Myth busted. Even with my slightly inferior CPU, the difference shown by those benchmarks should still put me ahead. And it doesn't. So for anyone worried about having to upgrade to 8: don't do it if you're on a quad core. Maybe for 6-/8-core CPUs it makes a difference and maybe even for i7's, but it is definitely NOT an all-round magical performance booster. |
Not to be argumentative, but I installed windows 8 last night and saw a massive boost in performance. Albeit, my CPU is an i7 2600k but it really did make a huge difference over the performance I had in Windows 7. |
Like I said, maybe for more than 4 threads it makes a difference. Doesn't with quad cores. |
Necro quote time:
Aeon also tried 8. Zero performance increase. Again, quad core. Anyone on a CPU with 4 or less cores, Windows 8 does nothing.

And how does this work, you place it in your documents, sync up the latest, play a mission and it registers on BL or?

After playing some more last night I gotta say I don't regret getting this. While it's pretty shitty to have a crash and get no score or battle report, it's fun, even when I tend to die a lot, which is happening right now, I still don't see myself ever going back to COD.

for the crash issue, it really only seems to happen on these maps :
dawnbreaker
rogue transmission
shanghai
maybe on another map (not sure i played them all), but these 3 are 100% crashing. Not on others (especially locker, resort, dam i played extensively and never crashed, just the occasional sound issues.
oh and some epeen :
75% wins
1.96 k/d (was at 2+ !)
Division 1 in : Commander, Infantry fighting vehicle, mobile anti air, fast attack boat, kill/dead ratio, killing machine (kills in 1 round), vehicle destroyer, rifle expert, road king,
and a lot of division 2 and 3 as well
what can i say, bf4 suits me. I was never bad in bf3 (well above average), but in bf4, i'm like 3 levels above (of my bf3 level). it just feels better. And that's coming from a quake 3/cs beta/1.x player. the aim feels better and smoother, just everything feels better. i feel my old competitive skill coming back (i played several FPS on national and international level).
Also the game is just a pleasure (except the technical issues of course), The level of detail is far ahead of bf3, the decals, the debris, the destruction, everything. No way is this "bf 3.5".
Actually, it almost makes look bf3 "bad"
and yeah, did i mention, 75% wins

Interesting, I crash on other maps as well, especially Lockdown.
... And the netcode is so broken, if you are a true CS player, you'd notice

we already established, that that difference is random, some systems run better on w8.1, some not, it is NOT a sure thing.
me for example, on my 3570K@4.3ghz, 8gb ram, 660ti OC'ed @7000 memory/1187 gpu/SSD and windows 7, i get (on test range) 80-100 on ULTRA (and 120-160 on high preset). I play on high in MP and fps never drops below 70-80ish. And it is smooth and fine (which my stats can confirm).
BUT yes, IF you have REALLY bad performance on w7 (and don't mind the time and effort), changing to win 8.1 is worth a try, i guess. But i think for most people, the game will run just as fine on w7 (64 or 32 bit, honestly i can't see a difference. Mem usage for both is around 2-2.5 gb lol).

not sure if i played lockdown yet, but yeah, it is possible that it is also a crash map. But anyway, it is the maps that make you crash, nothing else (pretty sure it is a sound issue, that's why we have issues on the none-crashing maps with sound cutting etc. Just that in some maps, instead of cutting off, it crashes).
Oh and for interp (timenudge for quake ^^) in bf4, i noticed, that where i aim and shoot, my bullets go. With the network slider at default. Oh and i never used much interp in cs anyway, since the servers i played were rarely above 10-20 ping, so you only used like 0.1, if at all (interp also caused a shitload of animation hiccups). i always preferred to predict the latency "manually" (aim ahead). And in bf4 i don't have to do that. I Fire and hit. There also is very little bullet drop (on "normal" distances), not as stupid as it was in bf3 or bc2).

I've been looking at these benchmarks, and TBH it just makes me weep... I have a 3gb 7950 OC 980Ghz and while pretty much every game I have now is silky smooth (including BF3), BF4 is anything but. I mean, let's be honest, even a Titan isn't showing more than 60fps.
Couple that with stuttering and crashes, and this just screams Poor Optimization - does PS4/Xbawx1!11 have high fps?
