i dont think theres any real spoilers here.... i dont spoil plot points, dont give away the ending or dialog or anything like that, but i do describe one or two scenes, and the 'big' spoiler has been spoiler tagged anyway, so keep that in mind if you keep reading..
------------
finished the game... didnt need any patches, only ever ran into a glitch at that tower. kinda surprised so many people complained of bugs that i didnt come across.
ima going to channel lolo here and juss say... a big ol MEH.
the phrase of the day is 'wasted opportunity'. a lot of the game had potential that just wasnt met i thought...
i WILL say that i DID enjoy the joker bits of the story. i liked how he was presented, ESPECIALLY the moment they first meet. pretty much everything with the joker was pretty cool. hes no hamill, but he did all right. i found some bits of the story to be interesting, the whole putting together the black mask thing puzzle, etc, where it felt like a genuine mystery thriller type game... but the bulk of the game otherwise was kinda dull. not TERRIBLE, just not gripping or engaging for me, compared to the previous games.
for starters, the bounty hunters. yeah, ok, great, they introduced a bunch of new characters which is fine, but none of them were interesting. none of them were developed in any way, so they fell pretty flat
and their fights weren't worth a hell of a lot either. deathstroke was KINDA interesting, with the whole quicktimeeventathon grapple explodey barrels thing, and progressive destruction of his gear at each stage of the battle, but it still wasnt a very inspiring battle because it just takes place in a ring.. a problem most of the fights suffer from. theyre just 'tough bad guys' in an arena... and after deathstroke it seems they mostly gave up...
UNTIL....
FIREFLY! i actually really liked that fight. yeah it wasnt anything special, blind, stun, grapple, punch, repeat, but i loved that the stage felt like an event, fighting around the burning bridge. THAT was what i was waiting for.. not all the other piss-weak 'boss fights', that all felt the same. copperhead kinda tried to do something a bit different, with the wannabe scarecrow trippy scenes, which i liked because it was atleast something DIFFERENT from all the other fights, but it was half-assed and the final fight was just a group smackdown in hoo-bloody-ray another arena!
even bane was dull. two arena fights, huzzah! though as annoying as it was, i did atleast appreciate the final part of the battle - it was atleast something thematically interesting.

Spoiler:
i was actually pretty intrigued when he figured out who bats was, and went to his home and found the bat cave... very disappointed that nothing came from it though.. i thought id get a fight in the cave or in the manor, or that SOME cool setpiece would happen... just seeing the cave destroyed, and then a phoney bullshit 'death scene' for alfred that we KNEW was bullshit, so therefore there was no emotional connection... and then later in the same day, bane 'forgets' everything... just felt like such a MASSIVE missed opportunity for SOMETHING cool to happen, that the developers just rushed through for some silly reason... i mean they could have woven what had happened into bats story, made his character develop and become super angry or something.. where he leaves alfred at the hospital thinking he'll probably die and then goes off all pissed after bane... ANYTHING! DO SOMETHING COOL!! but no... brief sequence and everythings back to normal... so lazy... such a wasted opportunity like so much else in the game
so yeah, very insubstantial game for me. it LOOKED nice, im glad the developers actually designed a new city to move through, even though they didnt bother doing anything new with the combat sadly , but the city wasnt as fun to move through as arkham city i thought...
also, the fuck was up with the riddler? am i missing something? were there eventually cryptic puzzles to figure out? or was it just finding those data packet things... because i stopped giving a shit, to be honest... was there ANY riddles you had to scan in the game like in the previous games, or did the developer just not bother, because if so... damn thats a pity... i LOVED the riddler challenges from the previous games, not this token findmyshitaroundthelevel stuff
so yeah as i said originally... not a bad game, just compared to the previous ones, it just didnt hit the same notes for me. i think if asylum and city didnt exist, origins would probably be GOTY material... but sadly, rocksteady set the bar so fucking high that any followup developer was going to have a hard time matching it unless they went all out with the story and characters, which sadly didnt happen here for me.

am well aware that many will likely disagree, so all this is just MY opinion, so dont get too shitty at me if you disagree and think its the greatest arkham game of the lot, or is every bit as good as the first ones or whatever...
I still have to finish Enigma, check out Pinkney's Crypt and unlock the final Most Wanted case but other than that I have completed everything.
Spent over 50 hours with this game and after a rather slow start I started to really enjoy it and got this unique experience that only those Batman games have.
Just shows how strong and well thought out the core gameplay still is, Rocksteady really created some masterful codework back in Arkham Asylum days, that still holds up well.
What's different to the Rocksteady games is that the game world is more dreary in atmosphere, emptier and has a colder colour palette. Gone are the inviting Riddler question marks everywhere, and gone are the imaginative environment "redesigns" from the earlier games, after the flood and after the criminals took over. Its all more realistic, raw, prequel-like. I found this off-putting at first but then I got used to it and now I find it strangely fitting.
Story is also very good, the Hotel mission was undoubtedly the highlight of the game.
Overall I'm happy with what the B-Team did and with all the bugs and good script it had a kinda raw-diamond feel of Obsidian games. I'm most inclined to agree with the GT review, which was one of the highest-scoring. (8.7)
I am enjoying the crime scene stuff, it seems more fleshed out than the
"Ohhh Blood / alcohol / tobacco" lets follow that, in the previous games.
Other than that its pretty much a carbon copy, and even though the city is 'bigger' it feels smaller.

I saw things like that in here and in other "woman problems" topics so...... Am I the only one that thinks some authorities needs to be alerted about Saner and him possibly being a rapist and/or kidnapper ?
Saner is not being serious. Unless its the subject of Santa!

so, the reloaded update fix all the problems with the tower and the elevator and what ever stops mighty batman doing his stuff to the end of the game smoothly?
- Fixed buildings not properly loading when fast traveling
- Disabled invalid collision object in Mad Hatter level, which was preventing some people from crossing the river
- Fix for save corruption after Deadshot boss fight

Ok, so I'm supposed to go to a crime scene the Pinguin talked about. I'm flying all over the place picking up Riddler trophies and stuff, but I can't find it. The map is no help either, there's tons of icons except the one for the next story mission. Where is it??
There must have been a door there in the wall, when I came in.
Truly gone fishing.
Should be after that boss fight in the ship, it was a while since I did that segment but I believe you were directed to go to a police outpost on a roof and hack their communication device, from there you go to near the police office and enter a building which leads to the crime scene segment.
Hm, I think I must have changed the waypoint to that outpost, because after the ship the anarchy missions start and I did those first. Do you still know whereabouts it is?

I did the first anarchy mission too though I didn't continue with them after that.
As for the location I am unsure about the exact area on the map, it all looks very similar so I don't know the game area too well.
(There should be three or four blue clad police officers on the rooftop unless the script completely broke and they failed to spawn, that would be quite a issue if so due to the forced checkpoint system of this game.)
There's plenty wrong with the game, but despite all of the issues I still find it highly enjoyable. There's something about all three games that just draws me in in ways that very few games do. And despite all its flaws, there's still enough actual content (not counting Riddler crap in this one) to encompass several other "AAA" games.
Riddler in this one is boring as fuck though, I really, really miss the actual riddles
The biggest thing that this does though? Make me long for Rocksteady's next one even more. AA was great, AC was epic, AO is a nice filler until Rocksteady are ready. I'll take another one of these over CoD: Eels or whatever its name is, Mass Effect 3 or Dirt any day. And that's what it boils down to in the end: despite its flaws, it's still better than all of that crap. In a way, that's sad I suppose though
I like this one more than AC since I think Batman has much more character, the assassins are a cool addition, the story is actually somewhat interesting this time. The problem though, they added zilch to the game. It's basically a repetition of AC in a different setting, the city is also dead inside. Some more effort and/or time would've made this the best in the series IMO, now it's "so cool, but didn't I already do this in AC?". So sad to see "a simple cash-in game" in this series I hope this won't be a trend.
I had an absolute blast with this title and quite frankly, enjoyed it much more than Arkham City. The boss battles were the true highlight. Bane's fight was the most memorable one. The story was concrete and voice acting didn't disappoint. I was really concerned about Roger Craig Smith doing Batman's voice, more than I was for Baker pulling off Joker's. Thankfully, both of them pulled through.
From the gameplay aspect, it was pretty much the same as it was with Arkham City, expect now we could fast travel to locations. The upgrade tree was quite good and shock gloves addition is something I really appreciated. It blended well with combat and puzzles.
The "Most Wanted" list was yet another aspect which I enjoyed. By the end, I had just Enigma and 2 others to complete. The crime scene analysis was a unique concept and they should have explored it a bit more.
The only part which really annoyed me were the bugs. The Burnley one was acceptable, as it didn't halt the story progression, but Bane's fight was game-breaking and that was a bit annoying. Over-all, I think they did a fine job and I hope Rocksteady's next venture with this series moves away from Arkham and finds a new location. Also, it would be great if they could allow the use of Bat vehicles.

Based on the bugs I encountered on a map and engine that Rocksteady basically handed to WB Montreal as being working in AC, I'd rather not let WBM start afresh. Finished the game by using two workarounds to glitches that have still to be fixed, and I doubt I'll be able to beat the game 100% due to datapacks that I already collected not showing as collected.

If they show as collected in the Most Wanted screen and only remain on the map its fine.
I have 3 datapack markers still sitting on the map but I collected all and the game has registered 100% progress and I got into Enigma's secret room. The reward? Its utterly pointless
Spoiler:
it's an empty room with the 1st Riddler Trophy in it. WHOAH!
that was totally worth it at least some of the unlocked audiologs were interesting.
same goes for crime scenes. Once you solve all 9 crimes, the last Most Wanted case unlocks. What could it possibly be? A final big case against a mysterious adversary?
Nah its just..
I've been stuck for a week now on the mad hatter level with the river crossing bug the new patch fixed.
Anyone know where Batman.Arkham.Origins.Update.v20131107.Incl.DLC-FTS saves the game at?
FTS's earlier update created a save directory in X:\Batman Arkham Origins\SinglePlayer\Binaries\Win32\Profile. So that you be in your main game's installed directory.
Signature/Avatar nuking: none (can be changed in your profile)
