The Company of Wolves 7/10
Took a trip to nostalgia lane, with one of Neil Blomkamp's first movies (1984).
The acting is cringeworthy at times, but the story telling is great, and the animatronics and puppets still creeped me the fuck out.
Often reminded me of Jim Henson's The Storyteller, a series which came a few years later, so it wouldn't surprise me this was inspired by this movie.
There must have been a door there in the wall, when I came in.
Truly gone fishing.

The Last Days On Mars - 5/10
Much like The Colony, it starts off with all the hallmarks of a solid genre movie but never lives up to its potential. Not nearly scary enough and just really quite uninspired and dull by the end. I do like Romola Garai, though. Also, the effects and production values were surprisingly decent for a British film.

Elysium
I wanted to like this movie, I really did, but it just couldn't work. It's for me the biggest disappointment since Prometheus, and that says a lot about the quality of this flick. Such a wasted opportunity.
The premises were awesome; with a solid director, intriguing sci-fi atmosphere, and Matt Damon as the protagonist, but everything started falling apart like a house of cards when the movie decided that its target audience wasn't the District 9 aficionados anymore, but the *insert clichèish generic hollywood action movie #5879 here* lovers instead.
I almost thought I had downloaded the wrong movie at some point, some spoof one instead of the proper Elysium.
So there you go, tons of banal dialogues, action scenes and characters coming straight from a B-movie with the "no shadows of grey allowed" one-directional writing, surprisingly bad acting, predictable ending (for me at least) and moar. 5,5/10

Imaginaerum - Nightwish 4/10
Well, i didnt like it, too slow pace, litle music parts, hate that singer, Tarja is still for me the best singer they got.
im a big fan of their work, older albums. i think this movie was a waste of Money.

Prisoners is overrated |
This exactly. Prisoners is a mediocre film for Villeneuve and the casting was awful. Let's hope he returns quickly to Incendies and Polytechnique roots.
In other news:
Laurence Anyways
Another great film by Dolan. Don't let the storyline fool you. It's not another gay-friendly shitty movie. Amazing camera use and beautiful cinematography also.
8.5/10

Elysium. 4.5/10 for some cool action scenes and cgi.
Kinda difficult to watch, i felt the same ill at ease feeling I got watching this as I did the devils rejects, with the bad guys being the heroes... Elysium was very much a horror film in the same style as devils rejects, because it's shown from the perspective primarily of the baddies, so it's not scary, just unsettling.
Did kinda like max as a character though

for a start: you dont know from the film how much of a 'say' the average person on elysium has on giving those on earth medical treatment. you also dont know how much or how little they care about those on earth, the film does not give you enough information to declare that one way or the other, so you could only be basing that statement on the handful of cartoonishly evil 'suits' in the film, and belief that everyone who has a nice house, must naturally not give a fuck about the plight of anyone else who isnt as fortunate as they are. I think thats kinda silly.
furthermore, i dont think the medical beds were really relevant... the humans on earth represent greed. even if they had medicine, they would still be envious of the society those in elysium had (remember how the film started with the young max looking up at elysium, and saying it wasnt 'fair'), and would want to take it from them and cast them out, because its human nature to be greedy.
what i found so difficult to watch is that the film portrayed that greed as noble, just as long as its aimed at those who have nice things.
humanity as a whole fucked up the planet... those that could save themselves, did... and now those that couldnt, feel entitled to live that same life.
imagine you worked hard your whole life... bought a nice house in a nice community, nice garden, nice car, a wonderful life for your family... and then some people who grew up on the streets decide they like your house, and they take it and throw you and your family out on the streets... how would you feel? thats what elysium is saying is a noble goal, and thats what i found so hard to watch, and its exactly why i likened it to devils rejects... they were basically going around, feeling it was their right to ruin other peoples lives through their actions.
people had built a wonderful, safe, happy community... and we're supposed to cheer for the people who have no stake in the place, coming in and fucking it all up for them.
i would have enjoyed it more if that message wasnt so heavy handed... if it was just about sending medicine to earth, OR making earth a better place, that would have been fine.. but knowing that elysium would now be trashed because it was open season for everyone to freely come up, and those that worked hard to make the place would now be cast out, and that they deserved to be, was pretty depressing.

@Chiv -- absolutely agree. Prosperity could, however, in the Elysium world be brought back to Earth if they could slowly create such places as they are in orbit but down on the planet in "defensible" pockets. Then slowly over generations you'd sorta weed out the chaff and then humanity would then be able to sorta work together. Nice utopian thought of course but the orbital plat was there to escape the BS below. Hell, I'd have voted to go to Mars and NOT stay orbiting that frack'n cess pool.

People didn't build anything. A company built it and the rich paid to get in, using money gained from the hard work of the slave populace down on Earth.
I'd love to see how Elysium would prosper without the poor class on Earth to exploit. I'm sure they would still make millions from all that "hard work"
Also, not wanting to die from extreme radiation poisoning isn't really greed, is it?
