After a couple of hours spent playing the game, but maybe I should say "trying to play", I think I'm done for now. Okay

It's not bad, far from it, it's just immensely rough, unpolished, clunky in its current state. Everything could have been somewhat excusable if the product in question was rushed and released early, but this motherfucking game has been under development for 7 long years. Crying or Very sad
The complete lack of polish in pretty much *every single* department is really inexcusable. All the X games have been bugged at launch, but this one is on another level entirely, to the point that it's nearly unplayable for me at the moment.

I don't even know where to start really, from the badly placed and oversimplified UI that works only at times, to the performance which is unbearable (~23fps near the stations, no matter the settings/resolution used, you've got to be kidding me Laughing); from the unresponsive mouse/keyboard controls - which is a first (whereas the gamepad is definitely better) to the underwhelming stations design, textures and characters animations, all 2006-like. Sad (though that's not a big problem for me).

Then there are the game-related annoyances, like the not-so-smart AI especially during combat and the many copy-pasted stations and tasks, which break the sense of immersion a bit (and the bad voice acting does not help). I wanted to investigate on the economy system as well but the game is simply not ready to be played yet.

It's not that there isn't potential here, despite the game being not-quite-the-X-that-we-were-expecting, but I'm sure it will be entertaining someday...in the future...after 5-6 huge patches and loads of mods. It's like having a giant Rome II deja-vu.

If you can't open the door back to cockpit after you have left it, hit ENTER and navigate through the menu. You can get back via it. At least it's what I was told )

Just tried it out and I was afraid it would run ass, but it actually ran smooth.

But first impression was: ugly looking characters and structures when space looks beautiful kinda makes you go 'meh' but I can live with it. But the UI... ffs it's simple but it feels like it's more being in my way than something else.

And yeh it kinda bums me out that controller seems to work better than Keyb+mouse (at least it did with the flying part)

Only played 30 mins so need some more time with it but I expected more from it.

Oh, I would say definitely try it right now. Only you can decide if it's too "broken" for you right now.

I'm having a lot of fun and the only real issue so far has been the utterly ridiculous performance. But then again acceptable performance to me is 60 fps and nothing less.

I'm dreading the moment the campaign will be over a bit and I hope there will be enough substance in freeplay to last for a while.
Definitely looking forward to what the modding community can pull off. No idea how open the game is.

Should have worded it better I guess. Smile It's the textures that makes it look ugly. Structures aren't bad per say but it just looks off.

Yeah, the space objects -- stations, ships, effects -- look really good. No complaints there at all. It's the station interiors and (most of all) characters that are terrible.

But even that doesn't bother me so much, except that I have to walk around and talk to them rather than using the fucking radio or space smartphone.

My biggest complaint by far, though, is the interface. How they managed to make it worse is completely mind-blowing. The menu system is terrible. The dialog system is terrible. The property management system is terrible. Even when I memorize the keypresses to reach a certain item of information ... it's so many keypresses. I used to press 'R' to see my property. Now I have to go through multiple menus and a stupid animation (and let that creepy square-faced alien stare into my eyes) just to figure our where the fuck my other ships are.

The entire thing is just really awkward. I love space games, so I'm going to wait for patches and mods to make it playable, but right now it feels like a step back from X2 and X3. There's potential here, but it needs a lot of love from the devs.

And do our ships take the highway system at all? Seems like they just fly straight from A to B at a slow crawl, not bothering to enter the tradelanes.

EDIT: FUCK THIS. I´m a X veteran since the first hour. This piece of crap is not even playable like a proper x-game because they changed everything what was finally working after they trimmed the series to a very well working space sim in a reasonable environment. FUCK FUCK FUCK FUCK FUCK. What is this? It´s nothing. NOTHING. 70% percent of your screen are hidden by this boring and USELESS cockpit view because everything is so fucking small that I´m in need of glasses big as the hubble telescope FUCK HOW on fucking earth do I´m supposed to build up an empire with this crappy interface where I have to click 10000000000 time only to see a clear list with useful informations. This awww fuck it i´m out.

Next time they release a game I´ll spend my 50 bucks on bread to feed the ducks in the park. Over and out!

Pretty much this. I'm at the point where I finished a ship capture mission in the story, which means I have one freighter, one capital ship and one more freighter that supposed to be in impound.

And I have no idea what to do with them. Commanding ships used to be easy. Command menu, command, execute. Done. Now it's buried under a fuckton of derpified console friendly shit that makes it unnecessarily convoluted and completely unintuitive.

Also navigating this new world feels waaaaay off. The maps are borderline useless, you cannot drag them, you cannot zoom them, you select the stations/zones/sectors from the list and nothing else. Stinks of consolitis.

I think I'll ditch this half-assed story and just start a sandbox game. I always prefered the relaxing empire building anyways, all this "these guys hate you now" thing really kills the enjoyment.



There are great ideas inside, but it's dragged down by the usual industry shit of "cater to everyone", and ending up "catering to no one".


EDIT: oh and this thing about looting everything on stations...

My impression so far is that the UI is terrible. I miss the old property manager, that made sense. This? What is this? CO? ST? I was worried when they say they want an X game to be playable with a controller, but I think they want too far in 1 way. Trying to adapt anything to something less powerful (ie. less buttons) is dumb. Why can't a game mimic the UI of our day to day OS? For PC gamers it would be Windows UI. Imagine being able to press 1 key to pull up a window for trading, property, map, etc. Right on objects to select what you want to do with it, simple. Oh wait, they already have something like that before.

Another negative I have is how hard it is to find anything. Where are the missions in this zone? Why won't it show up on the map? What IS the point of the map right now? What does each icon even means? What about crew members? Why aren't there a network where I can just look up who are looking for work, what's their trade, their profile (skills), price and location.


Otherwise the game is fine. Doesn't feel like an X game so far, but it is fine. But the UI and providing information are what's important in a game like this, and what is needed for people to stick around long enough to enjoy the game. I can't believe they messed it up.

damn, this game is such a sack of crap. Can you even get rid of the cockpit? its fucking useless and takes up a third of the screen. Where is my 3rd person view? there isn't any collision detection. AI ships go right through eachother. Path-finding is nonexistant, ships just following each other in endless lines. It seems like there are only three different varieties of ships. You can only build stations at pre-determined locations.

UI is fucking retarded. Where the hell is the radar? Why are the menus designed around joypad radial menus? Why do I only pilot a single ship? So much for it being customizable, you have two fucking weapons. The voice acting is as bad as it always has been, and it seems like the models have gotten worse. Why do I have to get out of my ship and walk around a shit ass station mode to trade? Why do I need to land on different parts of the station to trade different things? Why do I need to get out of my ship or dock at all when I can't even do the trading myself?

this is seriously embarrassing for any company to shit out, let alone after seven years of development. What a disappointment. I don't even see how this can be fixed without replacing the entire game. It would be easier to start over than to try to clean this toxic waste dump up.

At least I still have X3:AP, which itself is fantastic. how did they fall so hard after that?

anyone enjoyed x:tc or x: albion... should try Xtended mod ... that was a super blast after albion... and that's was a direction where should the X games aim...

as an X games and Elite fan.... i'm deeply hurt by this rebirth or shoud i say ReXdeath game Sad
